I think there are a lot of really personal and cultural factors at play with both female and male circumcision, but ultimately we all just need to stop hurting our children.
Those who commit adultery should think about others as those innocent girls and women pay the price for the selfish moments of pleasure. It is wrong to blame one and not the other. I just also read an article and signed a petition about "Corrective Rape" for African lesbian women. Males rape lesbian women in order to turn them into heterosexual. Many are tortured to death. Birth control (and info about it) needs to be available to any sexually active person. Religions however still control what is done to "help" people in developing countries.
This is a complex issue, not easy fix, lots to learn.

@benjonsonable That's some peoples cutlture, just like this. I know a male that got circumcized when he was 12, by choice, and he is happy with that decision. Just as I know males that aren't circumcised. They don't care. This is a bit more extreme and highly unsanitary, not to mention painful. In america, they do not do circumcisions while the person is concious.
Obesity and the pointless wars is not the americans faults. It is the old farts in office that make those dumb decisions.

It doesn't seem to help to educate just the women. It's men who make and pass the laws. The men of these countries don't mind that their wives, mothers, and sisters had to go through this painful procedure, but when you show them on a video what their little girls must endure they seem to feel differently about it.

I am a bit confused, I was under the impression that these people were horribly poor and starving. And yet I see a people who seem quite content with their primitive way of life. They are thin, but they are not starving, they are clothed well and their homes are acceptable to them. I do understand that education may help them overcome the control that religious and other "leaders" take over their fellow man..... My point is if we can't care for an animal with compassion, why should we be @ all surprised by the way we treat children?! There's a lot of things we do that's barbaric. In some cases, by simply by allowing it to happen. Did you know in many states, if a pregnant woman is murdered, it isn't considered a double homicide!

@iota1962 Part 2 - Unless the child is born, separated from the mother, (I don't know if severing the umbilicus is necessary for it to be considered truly separated or not) & having drawn breath on its own, it's considered a fetus & has no rights under the law! Equally barbaric is the video listed as, "Harun Akyol Sünnet". Some things I may never understand. Perhaps I never should! Though I still believe abortion should not be considered birth control, there are certain times I can understand it such as in the case of a 10 year old I cared for as a nurse who was raped by her father. I just also read an article and signed a petition about "Corrective Rape" for African lesbian women. Males rape lesbian women in order to turn them into heterosexual. Many are tortured to death. The number of victims is heartbreakingly high. These kind of acts are vile and unacceptable. Hope these women will find peace and comfort at some point of their lives.

Oprah talked about a baby less than 1 1/2 (I think) who was found after being raped & thrown away on the side of the road (to die) as if she was used up trash. She survived the hemorrhaging & infections but her genitals & rectum had to be fully reconstructed because he perforated through the vaginal wall into the rectum. EVIL!

It's interesting to see that religious excuses are used for both male and female genital cutting. Freedom of religion should include freedom from religion. It's time to educate people (including Bill Gates) about the harm of circumcision.

@pateuvasiliu In the US and Canada circumcision has not ended by "showing facts." It is a slow process to affect social change, especially when so many who are cut or have cut others need to keep doing it to perpetuate their own condition.
Birth control (and info about it) needs to be available to any sexually active person. Religions however still control what is done to "help" people in developing countries.
This is a complex issue, not easy fix, lots to learn.
