u should change post processing to gamer then up shadows and object quality. postprocessing on high and very high hardly any diff but take alot of fps
I don't see why people are complaining that this device isn't something they'd use for gaming. I coped for 3 years with an IBM Thinkpad R52 that had an ATI Mobility Radeon X300 64Mb card installed. Getting this laptop will probably blow my mind. =)
i hate the fan on this thing the monitor blocks the fan an overheats causing my games to lag if i wanna play any games i have to put it on a surface and raise the computer over a box or sumtin so the hot air from the fan actually goes somewhere and helps having a fan blowing by it
I want a good laptop computer for gaming, without the insane 2K price tag. Should I get the computer upgraded to the Intel® Core™ i7-820QM Quad Core Processor, or upgrade the RAM to 6 gigabytes? Keep in mind I will use this for intense gaming (Crysis Warhead, Battle Field Bad Company 2, Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2), and want to know which upgrade would give me better results for gaming.
for those that complain about gaming on laptops let me just say that there's a new breed of gamers. the type who have lives and go out, but are still gamers at heart and like to play in between or even while meeting up with something called friends.
You guys can complain about laptops being used for gaming all you want, but it's just getting tiresome. I'll never buy a desktop simply because I take my computer to my friends and WE GAME, I take it to school and WE GAME, wherever I go, I GAME. I don't like being stuck in my room all day gaming. I like to get out too, even if it is just to game X3.
nice laptop but try running it on max and watch that shit lagg like hell my 500 bux desktop pc can run crysis on max ethusiasts with motion blur on at 1440-900 res and i get 40 fps easily and i got a 100 bux amd quad and a ati 4890 gpu no way that lp will run it on max.
whyd you compare to a desktop? lol. thats pretty foolish.
anyways, why are you only running it at 900p? thats a waste if you want to talk about running it on max. thats like the same as saying running on max settings at 720p and you get full speed. small testing with this game at 1080p on my studio xps16 gave me full speed except when alot of people on screen.
i didnt run fraps to get the fps, but im guessing it was around 40 to 50 with no action (was pretty damn smoothe with no lag), and then probably down to 20 to 30 with alot of action. i think its pretty good for this multimedia laptop. (its not an actual gaming laptop)
hey so i was wondering - since i'm buying mine not from dell, meaning i don't get to customize it to have RGBLED (the one i'm getting doesn't), I want to make up for it by buying an external monitor. My question is, what external monitor types (or specs) produce results like the RGBLED? And also, should I be worried about the graphics card not being to handle a larger , external monitor for gaming? thanks
Jey Joker, im running crysis warhead at the same specs but it doesnt seem to be running at the same frames any idea? Got the same exact specs as you xepy 500gb 7200rpm, Maybe its just crysis warhead eh?
What were your fps? I have a pretty crappy computer with crysis on it, and even with the graphics set real low, Im lucky if I can make it to ten on the lowest settings. I am going to get a Dell xps 16 with a 720QM i7 processor, 6GB of ram and an SSD with the 4670m radeon. What do you think I can set the graphics to while still getting a decent fps (30+?)
@texanman is that to do with the turbo boost? i was looking at the i3 330 which doesnt turbo boost but sits at 2.26ghz or so and it rates much better than most core 2 duos, would this one be affected because no turbo boost?
the issue is with the 90w power brick not supplying enough power. if you contact dell about it you will get a free 130w adapter and the problem goes away.
So I'm planning on buying this comp. and using it for recording full HD1080p video walkthroughs, which I realize is going to take a very powerful comp. Now the first game I want to do Is Halo:Combat Evolved on legendary which shouldn't tax the comp. to much. But if I want to do Halo 2 vista in FHD on high settings or crysis in FHD, would the settings I list be good enough?6GB Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache). ATI 4670 Mobility graphics
For the last part of your question, the answer is no. The video card isn't powerful enough. If you want that, I'd suggest looking into an Alienware M17x.
um so what optimal settings do you use to run it smoothly? i was wondering if you could also give me an advice. Im gonna buy one this february, do you think i should wait a little bit more? considering that this lappie was released a couple of months ago? thnx in advance :)
ugh, okay so my dad bought me this computer. i know almost nothing about the innards of a computer but he ended up paying something about 2,450+ dollars. he's always had the idea that if you buy the best then you don't have to worry as much, like if you buy something cheap. ugh idk. computers confuse me when he talks about processors and ram and shit.
the link... i am talking about the i7 mobile in my country the upgrade cost 300 euro more... if you look at xodd or other dell notebooks thet are not that expensive whit the new i7m...

yea lol its pretty beast, its got an pretty good battery life too i get about 3-4hours on mine when im gaming which i find awesome.... I upgraded mine to the max specs u can and it runs everything ive thrown at it on high at 1920x1080 resolution except crysis i play that on 1440x900 on very high which looks AMAZING eitherway lol
It was correct when I said that it was only $1400, but now they have made the default amount of ram 6GB and thats why its $1600 for the core i7 base model now..... kinda sucks that they are forcing 6GB because most computers dont really need that much to run but, oh well lol their choice, and I bought this computer with 6GB of ram and the top core i7, it gets kinda hot when u run games so I just went out and bought a $40 laptop cooler and it stays perfectly fine even in my lap....
u sir are a douche, I didn't mean the i7 was low end -_- I meant that it was lower than the other i7 cpu you can put in it............ the cpu certainly isnt low end when compared to other cpus that arent the i7 but when it comes to other i7's it is the low end one

RAM- memory that helps ur computer go faster and have more progrmas open
Processor- the same thing as RAM but processes things at a specific speed.
Graphics card- Helps display the computer images onto the screen or moniter
Hard drive- stores data

Depends on your ambient temperature. I keep the AC on in my apartment all the time since I live in South Florida so the laptop only gets mildly warm. During gaming the touchpad area gets pretty warm to hot.

Yeah it's about 2x as fast as the previous 3670. For a $100 it's a very worthwhile upgrade.
