fairplay to keb,but others of us were playing slower soul aswell, before and after him, sometimes ego's,clicky bullshit and politics in the scene really dont help move it forward
Yeah I'd go along with that. I've always held fast by the idea that a great record is a great record, and that all the politics and bullshit in the world will not stop a great record being a great record, nor will it stop a shit record being a shit record.
I've always thought: The only music policy worth having is "If it doesn't blow my head off, I'm not interested." Keb's adherence to that particular line was truer than most.
Interesting history this record had...was first collected by fans and DJs on the still little-known Belgian 70s 'popcorn' scene, which was based around slow strollers unlike the faster paced Northern scene of the time. Jump forward to the early-mid 80s and this kind of record became immensely popular in the Northern scene as slower tracks became massive particularly at Top of the World in Stafford where it was popularised by Keb Darge - who's now a major funk DJ.
this was actually an old Highland room play from 73/4 which was carried forward to Stafford when Levines collection was split between collectors back in the early 80s
Sam was a treasure. Forgotten treasure. But I haven't forgotten
