  • this movie shouldve gotten an academy award

  • Someone suggested that Tyler Perry should re make this movie. Oh he'll no he shouldn't. Leave Ossie Davis' masterpiece alone. There are just some works that do not require Madea.

  • I saw this movie last night on the Turner Classic Movie channel, and just had to see it once more, I cried each time.

  • This movie should not be remade. It's a classic and the performances cannot be touched. Remakes usually SUCK

  • how the FAK did i find this movie?

  • WHO SINGS THAT SONG BLACK GIRL

  • that's some ugly dancing she do that other girl did way better lol

  • thats the guy from the white shadow.

  • dig The Jimi Hendrix Poster @ 6:19

  • I LOVE IT BROWNBOYKB!

  • I am only in my early 20s and I love 70's movies. Too many to name on here but those were good movies with messages behind them. I love this movie and I am so glad I found it!

  • MAMA ROSIE WAS THE MOTHER IN THE ORIGINAL RAISIN IN THE SUN WITH RUBY DEE AND PORTIER. SHE W AS AMAZIN! I USED WISH THAT SHE WAS MY GRANDMOTHER FOR I NEVER KNEW ANY OF MY GRANDPARENTS.

  • i stumbled on this movie one day on tv and actually got interested....its good

  • Where can I buy this movie? And was there a soundtrack?

  • Oh my. I love this movie. Thanks for posting.

  • I will always be proud of my mother Louise Stubbs (Mama Rosie) may she rest in peace! Love your son Britt Williams

  • @zachoriah1 Your mother had fire and fury in her acting. She doesn't get the credit she deserves. Mama Rosie was "that real black woman"...

  • Who made that song Black Girl

  • They don't make good black movies anymore. Such a shame...

  • Keith David should play Herbert!

  • She been working all day and she didn't take a bath before she got in bed. lol

  • @kiasky1 I said the same thing

  • Did you get this on DVD or VHs?

  • I shed a tear when she was about to go to sleep and she woke up 2 dance because you can just see how passionate she is and how happy it makes her:)

  • Thank you so much for posting this movie. I saw it a long time ago and now that I have seen it now....I had it ALL wrong. First of all, I thought that Leslie Uggams was all through the movie from begining to end. And I thought her afro was cropped and corse, not luscious like TC from Car Wash. I thought Leslie Uggams moved back in, she didn't. And I thought the two sisters lived at home, they don't. And I missed the whole grandmama in the kitchen part (mama from A Raisin in the Sun). Loved it.

  • that music from the 70's kicked ass

  • I Also love the title song Black GIRL BY BETTY EVERETT.

  • Oh Wow! what a Classic GEM! Thankyou so much for posting this. I hope this is on dvd. I am going to get this and all of Dolemite dvds love the old classic Black Movies.

  • @jetit Hi Jetit, I too love this movie, it's my favorite. I was so glad when Brown posted it. It's a rare flick. But if you would like to add this to your collection, you can purchase it on Ebay. I did and mine came in the mail two days ago. It was only about $10, including shipping. I hope you can get a copy before the gone.

    Peace and Blessings.

  • Thanks. I remember the day when blaxploitation movies was it.

  • @dantej32

I know. Black people were more together back then. Black unity in the 70s, 80s, and 90s were stronger than it is now.

  • heroine, coke and crack will f**k any community up...We're rebuilding again.

  • @blackloverules No, black unity died early 70s.

  • I am such a fan of this movie; I saw it as a child, but a few years back got to see it on cable, and fell in love with it! ok, the plot goes all over the place, but the idea is clear and I wish Ms Dee would put this, Purlie Victorious on dvd one year. just grace us with these movies.

  • Whatchu mean black ? baby Im colored. I dont play that shit

  • @poppersandahandfan Wattstax? lol

  • I love this movie....Classic!

  • thanks so much for posting

  • those black movies from the 70's were the best lol

  • They should do a remake Keke Palmer as Billie Jean Mo'nique as Moma Rosie Solange Noles as Norma Eva Pigford as Netta Raven Symone as Ruth Ann Lonette McKee as Netta's mother Blair Underwood as Earl John Amos as Herber Janet Dubois as Mu Dear any else has any ideas
  • GREAT CASTING JOB!

And it would be much darker than the original in regards to content and today's standards

  • @Michaelahol you left out one character: Beyonce as the floor rug

  • @stacynewyork

LoL She'd be the perfect person to play that role cause her acting is as flat as a floor rug

  • I second that!

  • @Michaelahol or Loretta Divine as Mu Dear

  • @Michaelahol Good choices! however I want some new actors to come on the scene. See back in the day, each new movie release had an "...and introducing [insert new actor's name here]".... nowadays we see the exact same people in all the black movies. Look at Jumpin' the Broom. You know alla dem. and Madea's Happy family...YOU KNOW ALLA DEM...

  • @Michaelahol I agreed they should remake this movie.

  • This has got to be one of the baddest 70's movies ever made. Thanks for posting it. I love this movie. I first saw it on Encore about 15 years ago when they used to show a lot of 70's black films. I've been looking for it for the longest. Thanks for posting

  • You are so right I watch this movie on you-tube every chance i get since it's the only way i could see it. can't find it on DVD.
