I loved this show, too. I got a great tie-in book that came out at the time - "Time Commanders: Great Battles of the Ancient World". Lots of background and analysis of the actual battles. You can still get it new on Amazon, cheap (mind you I got mine as a present, so I'm not complaining!). It's illustrated with 'stills' from the programme, some as if at close-quarters, and some 'helicopter views' showing the battle formations. Great stuff!
Guys Atilla was not that cruel. Most people who call Atilla cruel are some christian "scholars" of that time.
Atilla may not be as chivalrious as Cyrus The Great from Persia or Alexander The Great from Macedon, but still he was not that fucked up as the so called "Scholars" want him to apear.
Read some books about him and you will see! Btw Huns where a tribe from the Xiong Nu somewhere in Mongolia. They where close related to Turks. Hungarians are another people who setled there later.
I remember this show, i used to watch it when i was ill and off school. I could never remember what it was called but remember the cool battle scenes and strategy moves. Yogscast reminded me and luckily, there was a link to the show on the right :P
@chocoman45 time commanders was recorded using a beta version of rome total war, which is a lot different to the current version. They also used beta versions of barbarian invasion expansion pack for some of the later episodes like the battle of hastings episode.
A lot of stuff is still hidden in the game files too, some i have activated for my own person enjoyment :)
havnt played rome total war yet, im playin medieval 2 total war, the kingdoms expansion and a mod called third age total war, deciding between rome total war and napoleon total war for my next game, anyone want to help me out
@piratelover64 well Rome total war doesnt have any gunpowder weapons or sea battle's but it does have a large number of ancient civilizations to crush under the wheel's of Roman progress and 3 roman factions to control. Theirs also the expansions of Alexander the great and barabarian invasion(don't remember the name but it had barbarian in it.)
@piratelover64 you cant go wrong with rome total war if you havent played it youll notice its alot simpler than medieval 2 but its alot more fun and immersive in my opinion if youre gonna get one of the newer ones get napoleon because its alot better than empire im still playing napoleon its really really fun empire was fun too but it had alot of bugs and didnt look quite as good
@piratelover64 rome was before medievil 2, napoleon is the latest. rome the first i played was a great game to play but it would dissappoint you as in med 2 all the faults in rome are fixed in med. You should play napoleon though you need a good computer to play it as alot of people complained of the miniumum requirements needed. rome would not be a good idea as you would be going backwards. Napoleon ! Go For It!!!! xD
Haha. "Using state of the art technology, we will refight this battle." That's got to be an old episode then. I wouldnt call Rome: Total War state of the art.
For an RTS? These are STILL pretty spectacular graphics. That's probably because, sadly, the only other major RTS to come out since then was Halo Wars, which got no actual effort to improve the genre at all.
@MisterGamer43 What are you talking about since Rome we've had Age of Empires 2, 3 more totalwar games (Napoleon, Empire and Medieval2). While not famous Sins of a Solar Empire won several game of the year awards. RUSE is due to come out in September. What you are talking about is from some FPS view if you really did play strategies you'd know just how wrong you are.
my friend later after attila's death the huns would become rome's ultimate aid as foederati helping belisarius and justinian reconquer africa and italy
@Justinian43 It IS Rome: Total War! Modded, of course.
Interesting to actually have military people in command for once, even if they're not exactly real soldiers. For the first time, I'm actually confident that the players will win from the beginning, or at least avoid making any obvious blunders, although this looks like it could be a somewhat more difficult scenario than usual.
It's a shame they haven't done a seperate series of this for each of the Total War games since Rome - they'd look steadily better with the regularly improved graphics, and offer an interesting variety of time periods and warfare types.
the truth about the roman general was not that he was held hostage, but was an ambassador of rome as child, and a peace child by being raised by the huns
real army?? or games experts? couse they look fat and old so i dont thing they are in the army.. and haha they suck so much! i wouldnt want them on my side in a war.. and if they got rank general then they britthish army are noobs. ( it was the brittish army right?) And sending scouts?? lool how about zooming in on the enemy army xD
No. It wasn't invented until the 16th century. However, it was a major wine region even then, and knowing the Huns and Goths, there was probably a few cupfuls before the battle. Eastern Europe and Central Asia are even today famous for hard drinking.
