Josh Kennedy is quality. His size would put immense pressure on the opponent defence. Yet in the world cup, Guss Hiddink hardly gave him any field time. When Kennedy was put on in Australia vs Japan in the last 30 mins, i felt that the japanese defence was under much more pressure. Can anyone tell me why Hiddink didn't use Kennedy as a starting eleven? Was it because of an injury?

No, it was because he had not proven himself as an international player. I'm pretty sure it was Hiddink that first selected him for the national squad. It was also tactical; Hiddink wanted to use Kennedy towards the end of the game, when the Japanese were tiring. And it worked. Also, Mark Viduka is a pretty handy striker to start with.
