Bearing in mind it is most unlikely he had a team of CG animators helping him compile this back in 1898, that is some pretty amazing effects work. Simple techniques, maybe, but carried out so seamlessly that the spell is never broken. A triumph for sleight of hand over advanced technology ...
"In 1913 Georges Méliès' film company was forced into bankruptcy by the large French and American studios and his company was bought out of receivership by Pathé Frères. Méliès did not grasp the value of his films, and with some 500 films recorded on cellulose, the French Army seized most of this stock to be melted down into boot heels during World War I. Many of the other films were sold to be recycled into new film. As a result many of his films do not exist today."

Melies was far ahead of his time, yet by about 1910 he was considered "old-fashioned" and forgotten.

@AnemicChia kind of looks like he put black cloths over the dude's head, or maybe it is real magic?
topitmunkeydog 1 year ago
@topitmunkeydog he's just used black marker pen or something else to blot out his head on the frames where it's invisible.
