I think black girls who wear their hair in afros (managed, not nappy) look best. It shows off the natural curl and it looks so much softer. I see a lot of girls around campus who straighten their hair and put all this grease or whatever it is in it, and it just looks either dry or dirty.

@Xinoutorah :) yeh. I mean I'm now 1 yr 10 months(ish) natural... My hair right now is a good length, not quite shoulder but getting there, you can see my natural hair and it didn't take 5 years.
My last perm was May '08 by July '09 I had cut my hair and had a short 'fro'. The perm was gone by around January '09 but I wanted more length before I cut it. Point is without a BC you can grown the relaxer out in less then a year. Growth like you said is longer, but not necessarily 5 years.
@NatSimTho Yea I convinced my bff to go natural she cut all of it off and it was so beautiful. Maybe Tyra is thinkin' it'd take 5 years to get her hair to the length it is permed...but yea really 5 years is a long time. I don't think anyone would want to transition for 5 years...it's less of a hassle to just cut it off. You get to experiment with cool styles while your hair grows out anyway!

She's like...I can't do natural styles they don't look cute on me. I think her hair would look so much better with a natural style...
that's shame. It's funny a lot of natural ladies who have transitioned from relaxers etc I think look so much different with their hair natural. I'm bias but I do think it looks better on them. Natural hair above all is healthy. One of the reasons I stopped relaxing is for fear of how the prolonged chemical treatment would damage my hair later on, when I was relaxed it did look health though, loved my relaxed hair but natural, if you take care of it, looks and is so much better for you
@NatSimTho For exam season I braid it up/twist it up. I do really big braids or twists so they are easier to wash and they don't get as tangled. If I don't I'll just neglect my hair... and it'll matt up like crazy.

@topbluffa1 Light skinned actresses are at about 1% or maybe more and the top ones are even less in number.Skin tone doesnt get u anywhere in nigeria at least and if u bleach it is seen as disgraceful and even natural light skinned people are made fun of by friends for bleaching......thats how bad the concept is. My cousin has greyish eyes and is light skin and his whole family are dark like alek wek. So ur theory is flawed.

@CheezInspector I agree! Whats the point of saying its your real hair when it does not naturally grow that way. I have never worn weaves or wigs or anything like that. Ive used relaxers, but that doesnt mean its my "natural hair". I recently started showing my real hair, which is curly and big. So unless she constantly has her hair curly, that was not her "real hair".

I really dont get why chris rock did not took the time t to show a natural sista like 'long hair dont care' to show black woman that weave is not an only option. I know that all races of women wear weaves but when it comes to black women , they are most of the time ASHAMED of their hair. which is a problem. For white women its most of time an enhancement, for black women, its a deguisement.

Tyra's hair was braided andthen she took the braids out, that's why it was that texture. If a white person braided thier hair and, then took it out, it would look close to that texture also.

@l9ois Ever heard of a mild relaxer? Back when I used to use chemicals, I opted for mild ones because they left my curls way more loose than they normally were.
I don't believe for one second that that is Tyra's natural texture. She looks like she either did a keratin treatment or a mild relaxer. Either way, it's 10 million times better that those funky gray wigs she had before.

This is waY 2 much focus on hair. Why are people so focused on black looks and black people in general? By now, and especially in the USA due to obsession w/blacks during slavery, it should be common knowledge that blacks have ALL facial features, hair textures and even skin tones. @NatSimTho Yea it only takes 2 seconds...just snip snip. But if you want it to be long you might want to grow it for 5 years; I have never transitioned but I've heard that's a difficult thing to do. I think if I had permed my hair I would just do a BC and cut it all off.

@Xinoutorah :) yeh. I mean I'm now 1 yr 10 months(ish) natural... My hair right now is a good length, not quite shoulder but getting there, you can see my natural hair and it didn't take 5 years.
My last perm was May '08 by July '09 I had cut my hair and had a short 'fro'. The perm was gone by around January '09 but I wanted more length before I cut it. Point is without a BC you can grown the relaxer out in less then a year. Growth like you said is longer, but not necessarily 5 years.

Maybe Tyra is thinkin' it'd take 5 years to get her hair to the length it is permed...but yea really 5 years is a long time. I don't think anyone would want to transition for 5 years...it's less of a hassle to just cut it off. You get to experiment with cool styles while your hair grows out anyway!

But natural hair is so versatile you can do so much with it and it not as hard to deal with as people think. About you convinced your bff... you need to jump on it too!! @NatSimTho Yea, my mom has always been natural--since I've known her anyway, but she straightens her hair ALL the time. I am pretty sure she is the reason I started straightening my hair all through middle school and high school, I stopped junior year in hs though and now I only wear it curly, no more straightening for me. I may have straightened it a few times since I started taking care of it but not much...Anyway, my mom will not accept her hair unless it's straight. Kinda a shame...

@NatSimTho I try to tell her how beautiful her hair is and how I can help her bring out her texture by moisturizing it and I tried to give her twists once but she hated how they looked. She's like...I can't do natural styles they don't look cute on me. But honestly her straight hair does not look all that great, it looks good maybe the first day she gets it done and after that it just poofs up and she does w/e with it. I think her hair would look so much better with a natural style...

that's shame. It's funny a lot of natural ladies who have transitioned from relaxers etc I think look so much different with their hair natural. I'm bias but I do think it looks better on them. Natural hair above all is healthy. One of the reasons I stopped relaxing is for fear of how the prolonged chemical treatment would damage my hair later on, when I was relaxed it did look health though, loved my relaxed hair but natural, if you take care of it, looks and is so much better for you

@NatSimTho For exam season I braid it up/twist it up. I do really big braids or twists so they are easier to wash and they don't get as tangled. If I don't I'll just neglect my hair... and it'll matt up like crazy.
