Exposure bias basically "nudges" the acceptable brightness up or down slightly.
If you take a picture on full-auto (ie. The camera makes the decision), and you realise it's too bright, you can reduce the eV to -1 and see if you get a better picture.
Thanks, I dont know about the shakes? unless the bridge was shaking lol;) I had the camera on a tripod and had mirror lock enabled, I think it was the focus as I wasent sure were to focus and in one shot i forgot all about it hahaha.
Hmm, I don't think your DSLR is light enough to be shaken by wind either. Maybe I'm wrong, and those weren't shakes at all!
I don't think focus will change on the fly while the exposure is happening, but to be on the safe side, maybe try a "single" focus (ie non-continuous, which means the autofocus will kick in once, and the focal point is locked until the shutter is released)
@lcc0612 I left focus on manual.I wasent sure were to focus. I think i focused at infinity and pulled back a touch.the other shot with the litted sign on the left was not focused.
this is brilliant!! Im looking at getting a dslr to do this sort of photography so this is really helpful!! A quick question, how did you create the video? that was really cool!!
I filmed this video with the Creative Vado HD 3rd Generation which was my usual camcorder. Because my DSLR is old, it doesn't have video recording capability, otherwise, that works too!
Oh that one! That was actually a sped up timelapse clip. I didn't just speed it up but I also enabled frame blending so basically all the in-between frames that should've been discarded in the speedup were instead faded into the remaining frame... In other words, I cheated =D
True, that! I should've mentioned it xD I didn't have a shutter release myself so I totally forgot to mention it!
I'm using a second-hand Nikon D100. Not the newest toy on the market, but we don't have a lot of spare cash so I'm glad my uncle (a professional photographer) was nice enough to give his old camera to me!
What were your ISO and aperture settings?
SBha30 1 week ago
@SBha30
Towards the end of the night, my ISO was at 200 (the lowest) and aperture at f/22 (the smallest aperture).
This allows me to drag out my shutter speed to 30s (the max)

Hi, It kinda bugged me how a sped up video can be called timelapse? are you sure?

@laf979
Hello, sorry for not getting back to you earlier. I never received a notification for your comment.
As far as I understand, a timelapse is any video that involves showing a passage of time, within a shorter time frame.
I guess my timelapse video pushes the definition somewhat, because it's five minutes compressed to 30 seconds.
But in other cases of say, 2 hours of video compressed to 1 minute, I'm sure it fits the definition nicely.

what is exposure bias? im going out tonight to shoot some highways btw! should be fun

I'm sure infinity and back a little should be perfectly fine!
The pic you mentioned isn't that badly out of focus, I'd say it's kinda good, actually.

is your dslr full frame sensor or APS-C? Actually what dslr have you got?
I have a canon 40d with a EFS 17 - 55 IS USM lense. so in reality the f/l for me is 27mm at its widest. :)

@maltijien
Hi, I have a Nikon D100 (yep, pretty old model!), which sports an APS-C sensor. (Nikon calls it the DX though) - So it's 1.5x everything.

@lcc0612 ok cool. Im giving this a try. so wel see what results I get ;)

@lcc0612 hey I uploaded them to flickr. here;s the link. flickr dot com/photos/joe190_0/
They turned out ok but I did some heavy editing to them adding some effects. hope you like :))

@maltijien
Looks pretty good! I can see some shakes though, which is unfortunate, but all in all I think the effect turned out well!
lcc0612 7 months ago
inspiring. what focal length lens did you use?
maltijien 7 months ago
@maltijien
Hi, thanks for your comment!
I have two lenses, and I switched between the two throughout the session.
My kit lens is 18~70, and I have a wide angle that's 12~24.

Instead of the timer, you can use a shutter release. By the way, what kind of camera are you using?
