  • LOOK UP PERRINE BASEBALL ADRIEN#24 HOMERS

  • i wonder if he ever apologized. seems like you'd have to after directly calling out an umpire like this.

  • @tmason83 well, apparently that umpire didn't have a problem directly calling out the royals right in their manger's face. i wouldn't expect DH to apologize. umpires/referees need to be held accountable too.

  • @DaCaptain924 i agree, but you're going to see that umpire again, especially back then before the leagues were centralized. seems like you'd want to just as a matter of common sense.

  • "Royals baseball...there's something in the air!"

  • Yeah, what about AO?

  • He's right.

  • This is from 6/23/1984. This is also the last date the Royals were in last place that season :)

KC spent five days in last place in 1984 and two days in last place in 1981. From mid-1974 through 1989 that was it -- SEVEN whole days in last place!

  • OK....and from 1989 to the present the Royals spent SEVEN whole days in first! LOL. LETS GO YANKEES!

  • @Yoseman1 Yeaaa, and how many of our players have you taken through out the years? or should I say other teams players as well? Hey it's America baby, and your wine should taste good after a title, but I promise you...Ours will taste much better.

  • @kevinashcraft

Now, if they are not in last place, its becasue the Cleveland Indians are keeping the spot warm for them. Quite sad for a franchise that had a good history up to the early 90's

  • This is a great rant. But Lee Elia's tops them all.

  • What a great rant!

  • Dick Howser goes back to the earliest days I ever watched baseball, when I was growing up in NY in the late 60s & he was the Yankees 3rd base coach (the youngest coach in MLB, as Phil Rizzuto always pointed out). He always seemed calm & cool & I don't remember ever seeing him get so upset, but obviously he had it in him or he wouldn't have had the success he did. I bet he'd still be managing today if he hadn't died.

  • He's my 4th cousin.

  • .... and, he was right. the royals won the West in '84, and, of course, they won it all behind Bret Saberhagen and George Brett in '85.

  • R.I.P. Mr. Howser, this was classic!

  • Dick & Michelle Howser (1st wife) were wonderful people ... they both died too young ... I wonder what their twins, Jana & Jill , have done with their lives ...

  • WOW..LOL

  • That was great lol!

  • Hey Trey Hillman you need to Manage Like Howser & The Royals will win bigtime.

  • Dick Was the best Dam Manager That the Kansas City Royals ever had.

  • Better than Whitey Herzog?

  • Damn, I never knew he had this kinda fire!

Steinbrenner was stupid for firing him after that magic 103-win season in 1980.

I was happy to see him win the WS in '85. God Bless You, Dick - and God Bless Napper! (his dog, he posed with him when he got the Yankee job!)

  • @raypowersmusic Remember that was an era when Georgie Porgie really loved to meddle with his managers and not one manager from when he bought the Yankees in 1973 until the end of 1995 when they lost to My Mariners in arguabiy the greatest division series ever in 5 games. Only Joe Torre lasted more than 4 in one stint (12 to be exact), the second longest stint was the Great Billy Martin's first stint, June 1975 to July 1978 and Buck Showalter's stint from 1992 to 1995.

  • @raypowersmusic I remember him not being afraid to argue a call, then being very calm in the dug out. But yeaaa, I didnt know he had that kind of fire. Cool.

  • Howser did a whale of a job in 1980 with that Yankee team. He maneuverered it to perfection. He had plenty of veterans like Pinella, Murcer, Nettles, Oscar Gamble, Bob Watson, Jim Spencer & he blended in youth like Ruppert Jones, Bobby Brown Rick Cerone, Joe Lefebvre & others just beautifully. Many of the vets still thought they were everyday players. Howser, in a strong but unconfrontational way, told them things were going to be done his way because the club would be better off. They were.

  • Remember John Schuerholz was the GM and Hal McRae played for him.

  • my mom works for dick howsers cousin Awesome! ^-^

  • the kc royals were never they same after dick passed away .

  • Do you know where his twin girls, Jill & Jana, live??

  • Interesting side note, when this took place, KC was in last place (obviously). This was in June 1984 and wouldn't you know they won the division title that year. He was right, they were an organization that knew how to win and they did!

  • @LWiedy He was a great manager. Too bad he died so young.

  • @LWiedy this is awsome stuff. getting me fired up for baseball season.

  • Dick Howser was the man. This is a great tirade. Thank you for posting this, I have never heard this before.

  • God bless you Dick. Thank you for the World Championship and I hope you're managing a helluva team up in heaven.
