I don't get it, what is the invention - a binder which doesn't crease the paper just curves it? why don't we just roll the presentation up in a tube and slip an elastic over it?
Great video. I love Dragon's Den and that was a very good pitch. For Christian it was good that Peter stayed in, I think that it helped Christian get a better offer from Theo. But also I think Theo was very fair. He asked what percentage Christian wanted to offer and accepted that. Theo could have went for a bigger offer.
The Foldio product looks a lot better now than the prototype in the video clip.

ITS GOOD THAT 19 YEAR OLDS CAN STILL SUCCEED AND THE SAME WITH ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ON THE DRAGONS DEN. BUT THE BAD SIDE IS THAT 90% OF THE PRODUCTS ARE PRODUCED IN CHINA,MEXICO OR SOMEWHERE ELSE IN A SWEATSHOP.
Watch the where are they now episode in the related link. He works in Theos office now and the product is available at staples and a bunch of other stores.
Im an art and sesign student looking to do graphic design at university.
He will have problems expanding to students who are buisy working with a higher gsm paper/card, it will crease due to layers. This product can be easely remidied, his design has flaws, and i bet i could do better.. tssk.
Right, first of all I'm probably more articulate than every one of you mother-fuckers.
And don't diss students. We get what £30 a week to live on, we've inherited all of the problems your generation has created for us, and to top it off in fifty years time we will be expected to wipe your asses.
So if I were you I'd shut your mouth, because you might just get the little shit you gobbed off at twenty years ago replacing your drip with embalming fluid.
@blankettheif If your £30 a week is EMA I'd like to point out not ALL students get that, so don't group all students under the EMA handouts, when some people whos parent earn like £5 or so over the eligble amount don't recieve it.
I have to actually work for the money I survive on as well as looking after my brother and sister whilst my mum is in hospital.
You can say that but Theo is an expert in this field of retail so the 35% he gave away was actually quite a good investment for future profits (with the support of an professional dragon).
This program isnt like how a real pitch would go. Might be legally binding but true pitch investments are much lower - this program is just about entertainment, and that's all.
And the Dragons aren't the only experts out there. The show works like this:
Bad pitches get shown
Dragons take the Pee, put downs galore etc.
Any successful partnerships look at giving away 50% of the idea.
Most of the DD agreements fall through bcos the pitchers get better deals once the show is over.
Surely the "true pitch investments" would include the investments in the Dragon's Den because it isn't fake. >.> Also, an agreement in equity is different in every investment in every agreement, so your generalisation is unfounded and untrue.
its interesting due to the fact two dragons where competing on a product they havnt even physically looked at or tried its practicality, not tryna be a downer, but if u have quite a lot of sheets of paper in that thing it will crease the sheets.
he did well. He did jump to a high percent very quickly...but i think they would have bumped him up to that anyways. Im an industrial designer and use A3 paper and larger. fucking hate creases and dont want to roll my shit up. But a warning...there will be many imitation after this hits the market.
He has patented the methodology so I think he does have legal protection. Besides, with a dragon on board copy-cats will be aware of the fact that this business will have the best legal advise
you can tell peter really liked this kid and didnt want theo taking him for a mug, but theo knew he was getting alot more than he should, his angry face is priceless
Good on him;he has practically reinvented the filofax and sold it back to the original yuppies..This deal went so smooth, the other dragons had no chance, the way they let theo take it,it was practically as if theo said "fuck off this is mine"...
Those big portfolios are a pain! I also took graphic design and recently moved across the country since my portfolio was too big for the overhead bin I couldn't take it on the plane. unless I was willing to pay a $50 fee. as a result I had to take snapshots of my work with a digital camera which looks unprofessional and I'm sure I've lost jobs as a result. Not to mention I had to walk 1/2 an hour back and forth to college with that thing. Great idea! I'm will seriously consider buying one.
the point was that theo didnt actually want to be a part of Jonesy's deal....got pissed off. the boy chose the mingiest deal, he just didnt negotiate well enough. PUMBAH!
your not just getting the investment, your getting the time of a very influental buisness person with a large contact list and already existing infrastructure.
Christian clearly went into the room solely wanting Theo to invest in him so I'm not sure why he seems surprised that most of the Dragons stepped out. I wonder when Peter Jones will grow out of his tiresome habit of questioning other Dragons offers, supposedly on the pitcher's behalf, as it's a tactic that doesn't seem to pay off very much in his attempts to muscle in on deals.Christian didn't seem to want a dead duck Dragon (in terms of this market) on board this deal for the sake of 5% anyway.
He gave up 35% too easily and i know he still has 65% but in the long run 35% is gonna cost him alot, but i guess without the cash injection it might have fallen through

Not that impressive as they tried to make it look imo. A really mediocre product and c'mon "woow he is nineteen and has got information from a chinese supplier". That's what I did when I was 17 (if you don't count when I ordered the junk I sold illegally starting when I was 14) running my own business and im not that special .. But hey he got 80k for nething that's kinda good for him esp. as he got free publicity
Indeed. I think he was overwhelmed at having the great Theo Paphitus as his invester. If I was him, I'd be looking at getting both Theo and Peter on board. And then offer them a combined share of 30%.
Yeah, but he still has 65% of his company, plus a Wage he can pay himself from that company. This is his first real product release, and I am sure there is more to come from him, at which stage, he can buy back his equity, or sidestep the business with a sister business to escape. The guy is smart. He gets to work alongside someone of Theo's charater, and then yse those skills to do himself well in the future.
CL just got lucky with the guess of 35%, and he had orders from WHSMith, so was in a strong position.
His age was a massive factor here, I reckon anybody else would have got slated trying to plug this product. I don't buy this product as unique, and as Theo said his product was just "Okay".
Golden rule is never ever give away equity, and normal investors wouldn't ask for 50%. Many entrepreneurs on DD, got investment elsewhere and well below the 40% mark.
Probably gave away way too much. 35% for ALL his products, hmmmmm. Would have been okay for just certain products, but not for all other investment ideas.
Christian your pitch was amazingly confident for only being 19! Im 24 and would love to be able to present like you! I hope the Business is going well, the products are great, I have seen them in Ryman stores the other day!

I saw that program, he was pretty cool on that! Do you know he is doing a new entrepreneur program that he is working on right now! I saw them filming in London.
I have seen this guy on BBC TV, great guy and great business man. So young, he has already achieved so much! He owns 4 different businesses and his third business Foldio is a great one! Selling in Ryman, partners, stationery box, WHSmith and Staples in the UK Foldio is the worlds first folder that halfs the size of your paper without creaseing so its easier to carry! I have one and its great! "Buzinessman1" where did you buy yours? Because I want another but heard they were sold out!
Did you write and article on Christian as I saw something in the daily Express!? It was about him facing the Dragons' and his future business plans and getting into the under 25 rich list! Was that you?
