I'm having a lot of trouble with a party that slaughters babies, supports Viagra for rapists, endorses homosexual incest, takes my money, bribes, lies, whines, promotes pedophilia, steals elections, breaks the rules, and coddles Jihadists, When do we get to declare them domestic enemies of the Constitution (and of decency) and act accordingly? I'm just not seeing a good outcome here.

In Canada some years later, Tommy Douglas worked to bring national health care to Canadians and has since been voted the most popular Canadian in history. It's scary to have a big change like this come to America, but unless the governments do a really lousy job of it, we will look back at this day as one of the greatest moments in US history. Finally all of the 911 services will be free.
@cactuschris2002 Both in Britain and Canada there are private options (those than you pay for) in additional to the public option (the free alternative). There is as much link between health care and communism as there is between the fire or police departments and communism. Both of those are paid via taxes, both are underfunded, neither are perfect, but we would fight to keep either one. You already have socialism in the US, in the form of roads, schools, fire depts, winterization subsidies...
So what was the "moral Christian thing to do" 2000, 1500, 1000 years ago when there wasn't healthcare ? What does religion have to do with this UNcapitalist socialist healthcare bill?

Most Canadian provinces ban private sector health care for those who are eligible for the public system. Very few Canadians have a choice.
I can hire my own security guard with my own money, but I cannot hire my own doctor.

I agree. Christ gave the role of caring for the poor to the church, not the state.
He said feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and shelter the homeless. He did not command us to create a bureaucracy to do it for us.
