Man now this I LOVE it is so soulful and FUNKY wish she did more of this but i'm still a huge fan of all of her work music and movies. she's wonderful : )
The song is TYPE THANG by Issac Hayes, his only musical contribution to the 1972 film SHAFT'S BIG SCORE. It's the introduction to the scene in Mother Ike's nightclub.
This is interesting...a better-realized song seems called for but as a demo it has promise. It makes me think a little bit of something Janis Joplin might have done but also the Yes song "Does It Really Happen?"
During her "trying to be funky" period, when she was trying to get out of being (as one critic said ) "age 26 going on 50" (she sang all old standards as a young woman). Nice try, but, really she is far too good for such mediocre material.
I now miss the 70's even though I hated it so much as a child from 2nd grade '73 to 8th grade '79,Great shot of Queens Blvd. with all of those SLECo's @2:35...Street Light Electric Company a.k.a. Deskeys as afore mentioned
Good combo of song and stills. The pics all appear to date from 1966 to 1974, but mostly around '72 - '73. Great shot of Queens Blvd in Woodside with Deskey Light poles at the end.
This is a rehearsal recording and the song was never released. Kinda not fair to judge it, since it was never intended for public consumption. If anything, listen to it as a "work in progress" and listen to how Streisand works on a song -- a song, ultimately, that she didn't release.
cool!awesome!love the pics, sick seventies beat, and you gotta love barbra's attitude and voice! very different than most of the stuff she has done. click the thumbs up icon if u agree with me.
I love Barbra funky, I love Barbra smooth, I love Barbra calm, I love Barbra energetic. I just love her.

good effort by Babs but she sounds like she would be better suited for gospel than funk.

Earliest sights and sounds of my life.
Unforgettable. If nothing else, the city
was real. It wasn't trying desperately to be
something else.

This was a track intended for the Butterfly Album in 1974 but never made it on the finished record. And she recorded all those tracks in LA, not NY.

Not bad at all. I like it! After all, it's obviously a rehearsal recording. Very 'seventies'.

AWESOME NYC photos! Thanks for sharing.
I was never in NYC in the 70s, but I find that period to be very intriguing for some reason.
Thanks again!
