  • Ah while we in Japan get more stupid...(or so the older people say to the young ones who were educated with the revised lighter curriculum).

  • Also, Seoul is the digital and tech capital of the world....and the country is the most digitally wired in the world using the most fibre optics.

  • I'm pretty sure South Korea is one of the world's leader in telecommunications, cell phone technology, electronics and cars. Hyundai and Kia recently got top ranked...and SKorean brands are surpassing American & Japanese brands...even German brands.

  • YEAHHH BABY. so glad i left Korea.... i mean looks at me now ,popping bottles fuking bitches in AUSTRALIA

  • Asian culture is sick. Jumping through all these hoops, all these kids trying to crowd into a supersaturated elite niche and for what?

  • @takadi Well Asia is moving towards first-world status....and has been and will be.

  • @VanillaSnow23

This "first world" status is a lie. With the exception of China, the big tiger economies are greatly dependent on western economies and a hugely in debt. Those that aren't as in debt like china, vietnam, are bubble economies propped up by the government. That's what happens when your economy consists entirely of state owned-enterprises. That's what the education system produces, lack of innovation and leadership, rent-seeking, oversaturation of markets

  • @takadi Are you Asian? No..."all technologies invented by the West"...not even close. East Asia builds and manufactures a majority of it and adaptaly innovates upon it. East Asia was least affected by the Global Crisis of 2008...and East Asia will surely dominate the world in the future, as China the leader with Japan & Korea behind.

  • @VanillaSnow23

lol, "adaptly innovates" is just another word for taking an original idea and improving on it.

  • @VanillaSnow23

Yes, I am asian btw. The sooner asian people wake up from their delusions of grandeur and change their ways, the sooner asian people can rise up and take the world from the white man.

  • @takadi The only innovative countries in the West are the United States and Germany. Even then, Asians have been working in America for a long time contributing to American technology and science (i.e. Silicon Valley).

  • @VanillaSnow23

You see almost no asian entrepreneurs/CEO's in america. Yes, a vast majority of silicon valley are asians, but they are the programmers, paper pushers, the worker bees. Asians have yet to invent a single piece of technology that has revolutionized the world. The last time they did "invent" (more like discover) was thousands of years ago with gunpowder, and they didn't even have the innovation to even conceive using them as firearms.

  • Man, and I was thinking that I had a hard time..

  • *obv not a

  • Also, I want to point out what I wrote is obv that a steadfast rule of either countries, Not all Korean students study from 8-11 and many art schools encourage creative process and thought and to the person who said Korea copies everything... where the heck did u get that idea? So you're saying there are 0 create people in Korea? That's a stereotype and the way you stated it is just perpetuating an unfair and untrue stereotype. It's like how most of the world thinks Americans are stupid.

  • To all the Americans being thankful... There's a reasons why the US is average or below average in all aspects of education, and there's a reason why the US is soon to lose it's economic and political dominance in the world. Quite frankly the US is too lenient with education. Of course, Korea has problems, too much focus on just memorizing and studying, but leagues better than the horrible education systems in the US

  • We have exactly the same problem in Turkey. I feel very very sad for those teenagers who feels so much pressure and stress in this modern world.

  • "Never let schooling interfere with your education" mark twain

  • Can you believe that quite a number of rich kids are forced to learn Calculus at the age of 10? Yes. It happens in Korea.

  • @oakes4574 It's pretty ridiculing to us...Calculus at age 10? Are older children biologically developed enough to learn such levels and high circuitry of mathematics?

All I gotta say is: I'd rather be wise, balanced, & healthily happy than to know every single fact while being an 8-year old surgeon who's a rich dodecatillionare after years of studying for 7300 hours a year(20 hrs./day x 365 or 366). ~X.=.x~

I had to reply since your comment caught my mind. Excuse my rudeness if there were any.

  • I'm making a 3.5 GPA and going to University of Oregon. I've probably had more fun than work. TBH I feel bad for these people.

  • This happens in Japan too, I think I heard suicide rates are higher there also.

  • @beccaotaku Actually, it's higher in Korea and steadily climbing.

  • @beccaotaku Nope check it, South Korea has the highest suicide rates in the world, google is your bestfriend.

  • @ThespecialJuan21 No. Actually, it's Lithuania which has the highest suicide rates.

Check wikipedia for the most recent statistics

Among top 10 countries though, there are South Korea, Japan, and China, and they are not suffering from poverty like some African or East European countries. Nice work, East Asian goverments. I guess this is their way of population control :-(

  • this is inhuman

  • no offense to anyone else, but im happy that i was born a white man and grew up in the US

  • as a korean, i love being in canada. i feel sorry for those kids for wat they are missing out

  • More emphasis should be placed on creativity...

  • So 18 y.o. high school students are in need of English tutoring? Where can I sign up?

  • @kiasta Correction... 18 y.o. high school girls.

  • look at those hotties

  • I'd still faithfully prefer Finland's education system far more than South Korea. I just wonder how much longer students in SK can handle all this... :{

  • @AzureParagon Are you Korean?

  • @VanillaSnow23 I am 0.00% Korean. I am either just a researching observer or just an eccentric exaggerator. Either way, I just simply do not find the competitive mentality in education to always be a good thing compared to cooperative. I don't want to get started on the influences of suicide especially under the thoughts from study perfection and corporal punishment.

  • @AzureParagon Well you mentioned Finland's Education system along with South Korea, so I assumed you were a Korean who was studying in Finland or something, lol.

  • @VanillaSnow23 Haha, I totally wish I was a Finn citizen by default. It's considered a fantastic European country after first hearing about it, especially upon my interests. I mentioned it because they indeed do top out any other country (most of the time) in the Educational statistics perspective including the ever-so-super-aggressively-competitive South Korea after looking into how they study as well.

But sadly, I am utterly and unexceptionally a US citizen born in that soil...in Japan! :D

  • @AzureParagon I agree...but they didn't top out China recently ;)

  • @AzureParagon Oh yeah fun fact...Did you know that Finnish is one of the two European languages that's classified as an Asian language? Also, there are anthropological/biological evidence of many Fins sharing Oriental DNA/genes (skull shape) even though they have blonde hair and blue eyes :)

  • an education should not be confused for actual intelligence.

  • @amoniane S. Koreans are a pretty intelligence bunch though. They have the second highest average iq on the planet. But I get your point, exam performance is a very weak measure of intelligence.

  • South Korea is a very competitve country. It is too small! and there are possibly hundreds of people applying for one job. It is no wonder so much pressure is placed on young people to succeed because the country is small, there are too many people, the industry can pich and chooes who it likes, all these factors contribute to high stress.

  • ...pressure to perform as that is right lobal and time irrelevant thinking. Now, examinations should only be used in the high performing industries, Aeronautics and Medicine. These are the most competitive and mentally demanding professions. They also have high rates of suicide among its employees. Year 12 in Australia is the same. Students have to sit exams if they want to attend Uni. But Australia does not have the obsession with Education existent in North East Asia: South Korea or Japan.con

  • Examinations according to a former lecturer do not prove a person intellect any better above someone that succeeds under pressure. Individuals perform better when their affective filter is lowered. The less pressure one is under the better they perform. Dare I say there are certain jobs where an acute sense of alertness is required, ie. Airline pilots and Surgeons. Or any profession where intrapersonal processing in mathematics/physics is required. Examinations in language/Arts does not merit..

  • i think most of the asian countries are like that.. im from south east asia and as i know most of the countries here tend to emphasize more on education then sports, art etc.. mostly because parents have the mentality that if their kids have solid education background they can find better job .. therefore a better life in future etc etc..

  • Some you people are being very rude

  • HUGE population + Small country = MAD competition

  • But joking aside, this is unreal.

  • The students dead bodies will be ground up and used to make ink to print off more exams.

  • these people have no idea what life is even about

  • @Shonenut213 I shall attempt to have your attitude for a moment. "lol stupid idiot doesn't care about grades probably failed all exams and living in his parent's basment hahaha"

  • @PerriLani Go suck some fucking cocks you stupid faggot cunt.

  • havent they heard of re takes?

  • lol stupid chinks committing suicide over grades hahaha

  • @Shonenut213 Ignorant cunt.

  • @Fotographing Suck my balls bitch ass motherfucking cunt shit!

  • @Shonenut213 Are you done? I feel kind of sorry for you. Did you just type out every swear word you knew? LOL. You sound like an 8 year old. Pathetic little shit.

  • I just moved from amerıca to Turkey my home country and They Its to much for me to handle because Amerıcas schools are very poorly dısıplıned whıle here ıts so Well dısıplıned even ıf ı dıdnt have a Language barrıer because of the lack of Fluent Turkısh ı would stıll do poorly because they learn thıngs faster etc.

  • I actually had people from south Korea come to my school today. They wanted to add physical programs to their schools so the took pictures of our gyms and watched us work

  • If competition is severe

    Do business in other countries

  • Really sad

  • the amount of times ive wanted to kill myself coz of skool gives me nightmares:P

  • 80-90% koreans graduate universities. And korea has lowest birth rate in OECD nations. You can see why. Korea needs to be dumbed down and become more sexually active.

  • Many students just say screw this and choose to attend Specialization schools that get 100% employment from well paying jobs. The rest, with parent pressure, all want to attend the top universities and get the most respected and qualifiedt positions in society (prosecuters, judges, doctors, profesors) and if they cant get to the university they want, they feel sorry and go into depression and suicidal thoughts.

  • Well idk, but Im glad I am not Japanese or Korean. They all live terrible and boring lives, their lives being controlled by nothing but education.

  • @Titusaki then you should become football player, demand and supply never lies, hollywood star, singer or another justin beiber

they are not clever, sure they earn more than average

  • I guess I don't feel that much pressure though I'm Korean (for now, at least)

I guess the 3 years of high school would be stressful,

but I would be able to enjoy my college years after the entrance exam.

(...maybe I am able to say this since I'm not a highschool student yet...)

  • Oh, yeah, humanity's doing fine, don't worry about it.

  • This is crazy.. 8am to 11pm? Do they even enjoy life..? I heard that they also go to school on saturdays --'

  • It almost seems like why even have a child then. He/she is just going to grow up to slave over studies all day everyday and live a life with no stories to tell their grandchildren except that time they got that good grade. What a sad way to live...no human experience, only productivity. Numb empty ambitious super beings

  • Wtf that's so harsh

  • oh my God, that is so terrible. What's with Korean education system?

  • It's because of the extraordinary pressure that is on the young people in that nation, just wait...such things will happen in the west after globalization of the world has occurred.

  • 韩国高考居然还有啦啦队!!!!!

  • that is just terrible!

  • Lord Jesus... sigh =*(

  • This is ridiculous...there is a fine balance between work, grades, innovation and intelligence...working your ass off and getting excellent grades don't necessarily mean you will do anything great in life.

  • but the thing is.. korea is a small country.. in order to become stronger and grow bigger..... education is important. being a small country is not easy.. and korea is between china and japan.. you guys probably don't know how much korea had to go through.. well, all countries had to go through hard times but.. since i'm korean.. i am more interested in, and i know, and i see what my country went through more.... so....

  • This video antagonizes the entire korean education system. Most Koreans agree that such emphasize on standardized exams are not always the best way to assess the students. However, does this mean that our way of education is bad? Some comments here are clearly antagonistic and based primarily on only this video that shows the worst part of the system. Now, I think this is wrong

  • In North Korea, you do not have to study anything - just follow the Leader.

  • haha :D

  • Korean women are beautiful.

  • 우리 한국이 외국 프로그램에 나오는구나ㅇㅇ 물론 좋지 않은 일로. 씨발

  • 10 hour exam session. :O My longest pre uni exam is 2 hours!

  • @bigdog91527 lol you must be quite ignorant. s korea is a "high income developed country" and one of the g-20 major economies. I bet you cant even find it or even iraq on an unmarked map. You sound like white trash. Lmao

  • omg scary ==...

  • all this studying so that they can fulfull their true destiny in life; creating clothing in sweatshops for us in the Western world.

  • @BigDog91527 fucking racist western cum guzzler

  • @sixshot4 cuntass bitch, what did you say?

  • @BigDog91527 stop being racist!

  • @sixshot4 it was a joke

  • @BigDog91527 then keep your dirty mouth to urself ok? plz

  • @sixshot4 nah bro i don't think so

  • @sixshot4 Both you and @BigDog are terrible. Just keep both your dirty mouths to yourself.

  • @Titusaki what did i say?

  • @BigDog91527 Bullshit to u mother fucker. True destiny?!?!?!? Do u know what happens when there is enough people like u? WORLD WAR 3

  • Comment removed

  • @BigDog91527 ...wow that is just a SHITTY thing to say !

  • @chizzygirl18 the truth shall set you free

  • @BigDog91527 Haha, if the people of your generation spent your time wisely instead of wasting each other's time by trolling each other, perhaps we wouldn't be in a recession right now. But hey, the truth sets you free.

  • @YunSeung The wise has spoken!

  • @YunSeung idk but even being in a recession is way better than growing up in Japan or Korea.

  • North Korea dont need 2 study. Just worship Kim LOL!

  • Oh my god :O 3000 prayers all in one night?

There's so much pressure on the children

  • Comment removed

  • Watch India Movie "3 idiots" the movie is tha best..its about comedy, life and some suicides exam pressure

  • Annex South Korea under the leadership of Kim Jung Il back where it belongs...

  • @shotsky94 Commie bastard ... Kim Jung Il is dead nitwit!

  • @vancouverology Then Kim Jong-un will annex the capitalist regime of the South. Capitalism is a failed cancer. Long live Marx. Long live Engels. Long Live Communism!

  • You guys are morons for bringing up North Korea. What does that have anything to do with this particular video?

  • As a caucasian person with no asian blood in them at all, I feel it's sad with all these top comments are stereotype jokes. South Korean exams are fucking mental and someone committing suicide is not something to joke about. I'm so sad to see that there are so many ignorant people out there not willing to learn about other cultures.

  • @ Sirable1 north Korea has a dictator tht is very harsh. And for you to say the north is better, is an insult to my people. The dictator there is very harsh on all. While here in south Korea, the final exam is this brutal, exams barely come to sense in the north. So please do not insult our country. 진 주 힌

  • Now this is why North Korea is best Korea!

  • north korea is best korea

  • This is crazy shit. That's why North Korea is better Korea))

  • koreans are shitcunts

  • Damn

  • Planes don't take off or land, you get a police escort if you sleep in and it decides your future...that's one important test.

  • I had a professor from South Korea and he told me about how crazy the testing in South Korea is but I had no idea it was like this.

  • holy fuck thats my aunt!!!!!!!

  • Ask Lord White Jesus and ESL teachers, Western Church to help you for exams.

  • @firekirby164 wow that wat everyone at my shcool says they ask hey is ur life evolve around studying and starcraft? and i say stfu asshole

  • @firekirby164 That's when you fail study, then you move on to starcraft.

  • Who gets to be the Full Machine or the Worker Cog

  • It's the English exam yet no one speaks any English in the video

  • @jizzy2k suneung tests for over 8-9 different subjects and each student tests for 6-7 subjects. it's not just english

  • @jizzy2k That's because they are tested on their listening and writing skills

  • @jizzy2k if we have an language test in america we don't speak a diff lang then english during the test..

  • @jizzy2k Its the Korean Equivalent of The SATs, not the English Exam...

  • They look insane..

  • @firekirby164 No that is absolutely untrue. However, it is a well known fact that when these students die, they will reincarnate as dragoons.

  • MY KOREAN WIVES - click on my channel!

  • @BigBangMakgeolli Your expedient?

  • Lol this is so true. I think too much pressure on the kids. But this isn't the whole culture we are seeing. Even though Korean people have the highest IQ's in the world and 'the parents are extremely pushy' there are also other people who don't try as hard and etc.

  • @DYL1016 like the ones that just play starcraft all day

  • @youngice6004 Is it REALLY that necessary to ridicule... then again maybe it is.

  • well...economic success comes at a price

  • Im watching slaves of the system under the name of a "country"... Economic slavery... We must occupy !!

  • Students should be let free little to discover their potentials, they are not computer machines to be programmed by parents nor teachers, but to be guided by. Most of famous inventors were just normal people with no special treatment, but they figured out incredible things.

  • that kind of life aint worth living

  • we are fucking korean monkeys. we want a banana.

  • Holy shit. I dropped out and I can't believe this.

  • I get it. School has driven me to consider suicide.... even attempt it

  • I guess to me that kinda sounds extreme but thats only because i didnt grow up in korea so i respect their culture... I just wish they had more programs over there to help prevent suicides..

  • have a life

  • Did Bill Gates or Steve Jobs go through this amount of pressure? No, they didn't. It's one thing to be educated to read, to spell words properly, to add numbers correctly but memorizing doesn't do justice in the real world.

  • @KBeOKEH uhm......Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are not ROCKET SCIENTISTS! They are BUSINESSMEN! Just like SAMSUNG and a few other great KOREAN BUSINESSMEN! If a majority of the population gets a University Education, it will overall benefit that Nation as a whole. Alkaline Water Treatment systems, Slow Press Juicers, and many other Technologies come from Korea! In the1970's, an 8yo Korean kid provided critical Mathematics for the NASA Space Shuttle Program Before it's first mission!

  • @EasternMerchant so we should take away individual happiness, fulfillment, and dignity (ENDS) in order to improve the MEANS of society? to create technologies that put more power in the hands of organizations at the expense of individual freedom and autonomy and that will have profound and UNPREDICTABLE affects on the planet? we should subject children to years of psychological stress in order to have cell phones and slow press juicers?

  • @gracer99 I understand your sentiment, but I do not have the aptitude to explain the issues you have brought up. But, I can direct you to YouTube - Zeitgeist Movement: The Movie, Addendum, & Moving Forward. You will find all three documentaries available for viewing on youtube. This will best explain the way I see the world, and perhaps we will start to have more empathy for each other. My dear Fellow Human Being and citizen of this Earth :)

  • @EasternMerchant The "Zeitgeist Movement" is one of the most despicable, terrifying, and idiotic forms of futurist utopianism I think i have ever encountered. We become replaced by machines so that we can live tightly regulated, ordered, docile, meaningless lives where everything is controled and the individual is reduced to the state of a domesticated animal. But why bother? maybe we can just chemically engineer happiness in everyone! What a F&*%$#@ insult to human dignity.

  • @gracer99 there is real hope? I would like to know more!

  • @gracer99 I see that you are in disagreement with the Zeitgeist Movement. May I ask you a question if you don't mind? If you had all the money and time in the world, what would you be doing right now?

  • @EasternMerchant If i had all the money and time in the world i would help direct and fund a worldwide revolution against modern technology. and after that was done, if i had money left i would burn it up and i would live as my tribal ancestors have for millions of years, in cyclical equilibrium with wild nature and the biosphere, fully autonomous and free, free to pursuit my own activities (hunting, gathering, building shlters) which gave me fulfillment.

  • @gracer99 so you wish to return to a pre-industrialized world....... if you don't mind my asking, where are you from? what is your cultural identity? And why are you so against technology?

  • @EasternMerchant I am white middleclass U.S.. You ask, "why are you so against technology?" It should be obvious why from what I have said so far but i will clarify: A) Organization dependant technology destroys human freedom, autonomy, dignity, and fulfillment. B) Modern technology represents a monistic system, its impossible to seperate the good aspects from the bad

  • @gracer99 Ahh interesting, about your statement earlier about wanting to live as your tribal ancestors in cyclical equilibrium with wild nature and the biosphere, fully autonomous and free, etc. Are you able to live such an existence now? If not, what is holding you back from such a lifestyle?

  • @gracer99 Nah, human behaviour is ultimately the fault of that, let alone other despicable factors that are incorporated in technology and how they spread and condition it upon other circumstances. Technology is nothing but a tool that humans exploit. We had such since roughly the time when humans have the capacity to exploit and extract the enviroment.

  • @EasternMerchant C) The development of technology is autonomous. Humans cannot control or inhibit its development and nothing can be done to resolve its negative social consequences short of completely destroying the system.

  • @gracer99 the zeitgeist movement isnt about extreme structure/control/limitation. you should look into it again. quite the contrary its about freedom. its about creating a sustainable society with machines keeping everything up and running. the current system is not only unnecessary but its outdated and obsolete and has nearly been done to death so to speak. the zeitgeist movement is about letting ppl choose their own path and evolving to a higher state and better understanding of everything.

  • @EasternMerchant but there is real hope. you can contact me directly if you want to discuss this further.

  • why this beautiful girls suicide?? they should come to me and make them feel comfortable to me..if they are too close then i'll accept them as my wife>>

  • @ManOfConsequences How would being betrothed to a shallow, lecherous man like you make her life any better?

  • Comment removed

  • @sugarthundermoon they understand that Critical Thought and Creativity is an inherent trait within a student which can't be taught, but learning facts that occured (eg: laws of physics, mathematics, medicine, linguistics etc.), it would give them a good basis to start from. For example, an average person that is trained to fly a plane will have more aptitude when it comes to flying a plane, than a genius who's never flown a plane.

  • @EasternMerchant Couldn't have explained it any better.
