Energy independence isn't going to happen overnight and it will occur quicker with a plan that includes, but is not limited to, crude oil. Alternatives to gasoline and diesel need to be a priority, but that means that finding alternatives for petrochemical consumer goods and other products.
Energy independence won't happen as long as the oil companies run the show, which is what we have now.
Drill, baby, drill is not a solution. What it really is is a give away of more drilling rights to the oil companies. There is no guarantee they will actually drill nor, if they do, supply it for domestic consumption.
Right now the oil companies are sitting on acres of domestic fields yet they do not pump. That is because they are making record profits just the way things are.
...These oil field rights are controlled indefinitely and give a boost to the corporation's ledger. This is why they want to convince Americans to give them more. The GOP faithful have bought into it.
If we do give Exxon and Friends access to more of OUR domestic fields then there needs to be strings attached. 1) they need to start production immediately 2) production can only go towards the US market. Don't hold your breath that will ever happen.

@NationalMan Oil is not an unlimited resource, we will eventually run out of it and then we'll be forced to adopt alternative energy solutions. Modern technology has developed environmentally sound energy alternatives including Solar panels, Wind-turbines, water-turbines, and Geothermal power.
Additionally, I can't imagine war being waged over sunlight...

"Government by the people, for the people" not really that hard to figure out. We need to take OUR government back from the corporations and the super wealthy. Government can be a good thing if we the people run it. Like we are suppose to.

If our government is going to be in bed with certain industries, it should at least be linked to a renewable resource.

Energy independence isn't going to happen overnight and it will occur quicker with a plan that includes, but is not limited to, crude oil. Alternatives to gasoline and diesel need to be a priority, but that means that finding alternatives for petrochemical consumer goods and other products.

Energy independence won't happen as long as the oil companies run the show, which is what we have now.
Drill, baby, drill is not a solution. What it really is is a give away of more drilling rights to the oil companies. There is no guarantee they will actually drill nor, if they do, supply it for domestic consumption.
Right now the oil companies are sitting on acres of domestic fields yet they do not pump. That is because they are making record profits just the way things are.

...These oil field rights are controlled indefinitely and give a boost to the corporation's ledger. This is why they want to convince Americans to give them more. The GOP faithful have bought into it.
If we do give Exxon and Friends access to more of OUR domestic fields then there needs to be strings attached. 1) they need to start production immediately 2) production can only go towards the US market. Don't hold your breath that will ever happen.
Solution: decentralize our energy supply.
