  • I'm glad this is one of the 1st songs I can remember hearing on AM radio, and not some shit like Lady Gaga or Minaj. So easy to sing to, uplifting and a happy tune. Killer guitar riff.

  • no one can sing this song like you can I LOVE YOU

  • Sometimes they lipsync their own material, but I have to say, if this is live, I'm extra impressed. He did a good job of staying true to the sound and feel of the older recordings. Sometimes new performances of old songs sound like cheap and tawdry nightclub renditions where it goes "something like this", not "exactly like this".

  • This has to be fairly recent . . . any date?

  • Love it!!!!! ...and so did my mom ^^ / Cheers!!!

  • Can't keep my feet still! He sounds great!

Trivia: He recorded the original song in 2 takes with no overdubs, playing an organ that Kris Kristofferson & Rita Coolidge got him for a wedding present.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • God Bless Billy!

  • Thanks , Tina I know surely you can help...

And thanks for this old tune..love Marie..

  • Excellent!

  • Love this song, thanks for sharing Tina,

  • No beard? Great song of Billy Swan, beautiful voice, great to see him here... thanks for the upload!

  • Incredible vioce after all these years...just great!!

  • Old is gold :)

  • superb

  • I'm glad that you all people enjoying this video. =)

  • That's Billy Swan all right!!!!

  • The ladies are fun to watch.

  • Wow.... Billy sounds absolutely fantastic!!!

I was in junior high when this came out.... Thanks for posting this ;)

  • Why is the keyboard player staring so intently at the sheet music all through the song? Did he not know it?

  • This wasnt BILLY'S Band, he probably hasnt toured for a long time. This is probably a stage band that had to learn all the acts materials at the time. I think they are great

  • When I was a teenager, he had a new baby girl named "Planet." I thought it was lovely and never forgot.

  • For as old as this song is and how long it has been since Billy cut it originally, his voice has never changed and sounds pretty much the same which is incredible

  • @Mattea68 - I am equally in awe at how fantastic he sounds! I put his original of this on my 1974 playlist & started a list for Billy as well.

My channel is a music archive of 450 public playlists honoring over 300 artists and every year since 1900, so you can listen like you've stepped back in time! With 40 songs on my '74 playlist so far, I can be a high school senior again for almost 2 hours!

  • @Mattea68 I agree,Iam in-awe of this Video,...Excellent!.. Thanks for the post

  • there goes my uncle billy..check out my god mother seria swan

  • Young Billy wrote the top ten hit "Lover please" by Clyde McPhatter back in 62.

One of my favorites of my young years.

  • Thanks for the excellent video!

    Sound and performance was spectacular!

As a musician and a lover of this song, I can only complain about the bass player. In the beginning, he rode a single root note, instead of playing a one-two like it should have been. Also the note at the very end should have ended on the low root note instead of the high. The bottom end from that note really sweetens the ending like the original. Call me mr perfectionist!!

  • OK " your a perfectionist" !!!! Still after all these years, a voice that can still perform. A sweet delight to my ears.

  • Sounds pretty damn close to the original.

  • Great great great song! Thanks for this!

  • Billy you still sound great after all the years i want to know where were you when my kids needed a dad back in 1977 i played and danced to I Can Help over and over again all by my self that song made me feel good thank you

  • One of my Dads' Favorites. He passes away Christmas Dad. Thank you for sharing.

  • You can watch him grow old on youtube.

  • Excellent live version of this classic pop song...5*****

  • oh love it!!!!!! thanks gary for sending!! such a great tune.....thnaks lelle for the post,,,,,im babsie x

  • Amazing performance.....sounds as good today as when it was first recorded !!! Great share mission507 !!!

  • Its an awesome song that still sounds good today....This is a great performance from Billy. I used to think it was Ringo also...lol.

  • Its a great song even after all these years.

  • When I First Heard This I Thought It Was Ringo

    Great Blast From The Past

  • Great Tune !

  • my dog loved this song may he rest in peace

  • I enjoyed seeing this. Was it aired, or is one of the unaired DVD tracks?

This is the first time I have seen Donnie Garvin NOT play the guitar part as well or better than the record. (The opening riff is harmoninzing strings, not a single note at a time. There is a Reggie Young video on YouTube showing how to play.)

    Otherwise, Donnie is my hero!

  • The guitar playing was fine.

  • Why? He doesn't look so bad.

  • Good Lord, please tell me that isn't Billy Swan.

  • That's how he looks now.

  • @gbj11 The guy is almost 70. How else is supposed to look?

  • I'm glad you like It. =)

  • Great song. Sounds remarkably like the original version of 20-30 years ago.

  • Awesome song!!!
