  • Very very cool! Thank you both!

  • This isn't really the same as "flicking" because she isn't holding the right needle continually-- it is really a modified or hybrid form of "throwing". It is really pretty much the same as the movements used when knitting with a knitting sheath or knitting belt ( called a maakin belt in dialect). The only real difference is that she uses a finger wrap to control tension instead of pinching the yarn between her thumb and index finger. All this is just academic analysis of techniques. Obviously

  • The ring finger isn't the most efficient choice when knitting circular, because it becomes quite far away from the stitch being formed. If you watch the other video where she is doing "pit knitting" with the right needle held stationary under her arm, it makes more sense, because in that position, the ring finger is the closest strong finger to the new stitch. Apparently once a knitter learns a certain wrap for tension and yarn feeding, it is easier to make a slight alteration for circular than

  • I am sitting here with my needles practising.. heh heh

  • BWAAAHHHHAAAAAAA HAAAAA HAAA

  • I ha ve never been so grateful to see a video like this. It brought me back to my childhood. My mom could knit almost as fast as you, Harlot. Thank you for the flash back.

  • I've watched this video over and over again - thanks for posting it but unfortunately you left out half the analysis -- how does she hold and tension the yarn? --- I wish I could see it better --- I just can't figure it out -- she seems to twist the yarn on her longest (middle) finger but in the opposite way to what I would have thought -- I just cant figure out how to keep the yarn tensioned enough to curl around the needle.

I wish SPM would put out a DVD tutorial - I'd buy it in a flash!

  • @Godslilknitter: funny .... and true!

I loved the slowed-down portion of this video. What a blast to watch!

  • Watching her knitting from several different videos, I've started holding my needles in a similar manner, wrapping the yarn with tighter movements, and it seems to go faster. Kudos Yarn Harlot!

  • The problem is that she's taking her hands off the needles...could be faster.

  • reeeeeally fast, oh (wo)man!

  • this is the way i knit but i call it flicking =] and i find it just as fast if not fater than anyone i kno who knits continental

  • You are not a nerd because you had TO FIND a proctor.

    :D

  • Is she slipping the first stich when changing needles?

  • No, you might slip the first stitch on an edge when knitting flat, but not in the round unless it was part of the pattern, eg slip 1 knit 1, but that would be all the way across. It looks like she's just doing knit 1 purl 1 ribbing.

  • Isn't this technique also called Peruvian knitting?

  • That is insane, lol, I want to knit like that. :D

  • Wow she's fast, but at least she (YarnHarlot) has a sense of humor. Glad to see that for someone so successful in the knitting world.

  • this is so cool it is awesome i want to learn to knit like that

wen they went slow it was like they were demons LOL

  • Ok you guys sound evil when it's slow.. lol!

  • i know right

  • ahahah. the slowed down section is priceless. but for real... great analyzing. :D
