I was playing this in my room and my mom heard and said it was the most un-creative music in the world... And she likes coldplay and all that radio stuff lol
With BoC's early releases taken to account, they were definitely the first IDM producers. To think it'd take almost ten years after this in order for them to really get noticed.
oh my fucking god you could so mix this into an awesome fuckings song, just play what it is at first and repeat it with sa nice drum beat and a long drawn out flute to go with the melody.. its like BOC subliminally wanted someone to do it, like it was meant to be, with it only being 1 min. Fuck i think i might just go for it if i can find and mp3 or wav file of this song, i could so do it!
I would kill to have this EP. I absolutely love Mike and Marcus. Their music is s inspiring and intelligent. i will devote a portion of my life to finding this EP :3
Boards of Canada have the most amazing music I've ever heard and the greatest mythology I've ever heard (from a musical artist). Half the fun with BOC is reading about all the theories and stories regarding their old stuff – while listening to their music simultaneously.
@papersplease yes that would be very surprising, since the W³ was not invented until 1991 ;)) And first public sites must have come in about '92 or '93.
Now after some research, i now am aware of the fake releases, so why didn't they want anyone outside their friends and family to experience the legit tracks?
@pwnshop1 That's a great question. Maybe they're unfinished songs. Maybe they wanted to improve on them and release them later. Or maybe they just didn't like them for whatever reason.
@pwnshop1 More likely it was back before they were well-known, and were just making music for fun. They probably wanted to see what their friends thought. If they started in 2010, they probably would've posted online. However, realize that if the band wanted these to be released, we would have heard them/we will hear them. They probably channeled all their energy into their proper debut, Music Has The Right To Children, and frankly it is easy to tell.
@pwnshop1 ??? do you know boards of canada personally? this is the ONLY legitimate sample from this album that they released outside friends and family. ►_►
@zwerty007 As stated on the BoCpages, the sample was hosted on a Boards of Canada website that does no longer exist. Of course people have downloaded it back then, hence it's still around. Although some argue there was never an actual Acid Memories tape.
@Mexicola420 I second that thanks, even if it's only 27 (!!) seconds.
Well.
Can anyone of the "die-hard" fans tell me why you can even "get" a "copy" of Acid Memories on an official site like iTunes (even though you shouldn't expect fakes there!)?! It spreads like the flu, but it's all faked stuff.
@pianoman74 Because iTunes is terrible. It thinks venetian snares is hip-hop/rap. Once it even let a track through called chameleon under the name boards of canada even though it was by a completely different artist and didn't sound anything like boc, and it made us boc fans go crazy thinking it was a new single. Its removed now though, luckily.
beautiful as hell

indeed, the more you listen to the real stuff, the more you realize how fake the fake stuff sounds.

Yepyep, all the magic is gone, once you find out, it isn't Boc - I don't say it's not, I don't think it is "fake" - I know as much as you do.
