Some times developers get lazy.

see the pelican was never meant to be ridden so they basically said "hey, why should we put effort into it? just slap a banshee on it."

look up scarab gun in halo 2 on you tube. you'll see that they got lazy again and put a plasma rifle instead of drawing out the actual scarab gun.

in halo one at the assault on the control room level, you get out of a pelican in the beginning.. as soon as you get out you can get back in.. for some reason i could only make it to the bottom once, then after that i always just died... but when it makes it to the bottom its hard to see from the fog but you can tell there was no pilot
