There need to be a lot more smart percussionists like yourself. It may take a long time to adjust your set and get used to the new adjustments, but it will ultimately improve your drumming skill and experience.
There's some great pointers in here. I love having my snare high as well, figured that out when my wrists started hurting when I played. Unfortunately my kit is old and the tom wont stay in position, it slips out whenever I set it up parallel. Thanks! Nice socks btw.
really good advice for young drummers, a topic i've not seen covered. I've played on a lot of other peoples drum kits at shows, and sometimes u need to adapt quickly, and still play well, u often don't get time to set the kit exactly as u like, but stool height, snare, kick pedal, and hats are paramount...the rest, u wing it. I've played supports where they wouldn't allow me to adjust the kit hardware at all, bloody nightmare sometimes, for the exact reasons u mentioned. Cheers!
I actually worked out just about all of this out from watching Weckl's videos on youtube, but the throne height took me FOREVER to work out. Now that I'm verified from your analysis I feel ALOT better :) awesome videos man
can you tell me what china effect that u used in this video ?

Lars ulrich sits too low, and Mike Portnoy sits too high! But I still agree with your theory, you helped me pinpoint it though, thanks!

What about Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden fame? Toms very high and tilted forward and cymbals higher than eye height! Still a damn fine drummer though!

Tomas Haake...he puts a big ol' China right to his left above his hi-hat. Solid drummer.
