I got the caterpiller pokemon to lvl10 so it evolved to the butterfly thing,got confusion and make the gym leader easy

but you have to get the caterpillar thing early since it also evolves at lvl7 and if you catch that version it only knows harden

You should try leveling a caterpie, not metapod so you can use tackle while a metapod, and make it a butterfree. At 10 or 11 it learns psycic and its really good against ground
