Another Starpoint favorite!! I swear, they were so consistent with their music and performances. Starpoint consisted of chemistry we don't see in groups these days.
Being from the UK I loved lived and breathed this type of amercian electro soul, i really miss this stuff groups like New York Skyy Howard Johnson The System and over here we had Five Star also the clothes were so glitzy back then compared to what boring drab clothing people wear now. i still wear the box jackets satin shirts, It really looks weird now as i never see anyone dressed like me and it really is obviously 80s,
At least she can be proud of leaving behind this musical legacy that will never go away..
God must have wanted the greatest music from the greatest musical period ever to revitalize trough the digital developments that killed the oldschool acoustic music in the first place!
In the summer of 1986, I saw Starpoint on a double bill with Alexander O'Neal at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. The performance was unforgettable -- even if my date was not! Starpoint is one of the reasons I am Old Skool to this very day.....
wow that must have been quite a concert. i love alexander o'neal. would have loved to have been there and even walk around harlem, which is so different today, albeit with less crime and drugs (1986 was when crack cocaine exploded onto the nyc scene, decimating communities like harlem, south bronx, bed-stuy, wash. heights, etc.). another era...
I just found out that Warner Music Group owns Starpoint's music from 1985 to 1990 (including this song and "ObJect Of My Desire"). Youtube recently removed several "Object of My Desire" clips including a Soul Train performance of it and this video and "He Wants My Body" could be next. Warner Music Group ordered several videos that I posted to be removed within the past 2 weeks (now that sucks!)!
I have mp3s of it that I made from the cassette copy I made of it back when I bought the 12 inch. It's the vocal and nonvocal of Object of My Desire and vocal and non vocal of Restless. Love it dearly.
I used to own the original 12" remix version to this song and many others. Starpoint remixes were never really that great as remixed "dance" mixes go. "Restless" as many others only added a few echoes and extra guitar solos, but that's it.
I have been looking for this video for years! Thank you sooooo much for posting. Does anyone know where/how I can get higher resolution version to download and burn onto dvd? Hurry! I'm Restless! RIP Ernesto and Renee.
Just added this clip to my favorites. Didn't Beyonce resemble her? That's crazy - almost as if Renee's image got duplicated or "worked into" Beyonce's look.
i have this on a videotape from '86... it's all beat up and the sound is shot to all hell, but i still break it out sometimes for the hell of it, lol. i was only 6 years old staying up taping videos on friday nights- my mother's friends used to call me 'the video king'- I thought i was so cool cause i had a 'nicknem' given to me by the adults, haha.
I love this song. I was 8 years old in 1985 when this came. Power 99 FM used to wear this song out along with "Object of My Desire". I love Renee's voice. It's a shame that she died teo years ago. :(
I don't blame you at all my friend. I was a teenager back in the day when these straight-up down-right Jams were a part of the central force of the pop-music scene. They were electrifying, dynamic, and exploding with pizaaaazzz. These Brothers and Sisters were always right-on with it. In short they took Alfred Nobel's invention of Dynamite up to a whole new dangerous level as always demonstrated through their more Powerful Hits.
I did follow the group in their hay days and the lead singer was one of the best ever held the mic. with one of the best group to grace the stage. Smashing tune.
I was VERY YOUNG the first time/last time I saw this video. I have always been a fan of this song and it's great to be reunited with it. I'm actually tearing up right now... this is unbelievable.
OMG I have been lookling for this video fo rthe longest. God bless you for posting this. I love starpoint, I think they were one of the best groups. Thanks a million
Thanks for this post!! Renee sounded great as usual. The song peaked at #11 R&B. BTW, Renee passed away Feb. 2005 from complications of a heart condition and MS, which she was diagnosed with in 1985.
this was my best song for that year. the extended mix was just as hot as the video and single. wish i'da caught them perform live. thanx for the posting.
this song was so hot!!!!! thanks so much for posting! RIP Renne Diggs...you made my life more funny in those wonderful days. Object of my Desire & Restless => two awesome hits best ever did!!!
Yesssss ! Thanks for posting !!! I met Renee and the band back in the mid 80`s of all the bands they were the best :) Not enough space here to spell it all out but quite the adventure :) Msg for the rest of the story :)
OMG! I taped this off of VH1 back in 1986, the tape was lost ten years ago, and this is the first time I've seen this video since......thanks for posting! How did this poor girl die, anyway?
I got this on tape from Friday Night Videos back in 1986 and I wanted to post it for a hot minute, but I don't have the equipment that allows me to transfer VHS and DVD stuff onto computer!
