@AchromaticRefractor the maneuverability is limited to the steering limit of the A/C being pushed , if you go over using the bar and tug system , the shear or torque pins will snap , hence go and get another bar , but on a barless tractor you recieve a audible alarm , before going over the limits , and should correct yourself before that .
As for the crawl sideways , nearly all tugs have Crab drive , but it's never used in a push , unless the airbridge cannot be removed from the A/C
I am not an expert but I would safely say there is less chance of a stuff up, probably a jack knife, on push back. And a negative to your second question. The only thing going sideways was me so I didn't get flattened!
