Thank you so much for sharing with us. It's very nice to see how amazing and welcoming Kate is as a person and as an artist. You're not only lucky, but also very generous to share something as special as that, and I honestly thank you from that.
your so lucky, i wish i was just a fraction as clever + beautiful as kate bush, i wouldnt know where to send a letter to her, id love to get a personal reply. do u have an address, many thanks, jen.x.
You were very lucky to get a Personal Christmas Card..I have a few in my Collection and all the programmes and Tickets...She sent me a signed Photograph of the Red Shoes which is up on my wall ...I also have a Signed Bill Duffield Programme signed by kate and 2 others but am not sure who the others are
A great song, incredibly sung! Unfortunately, I had to wait 30 years to hear this one. Now I know it's here I'm sure I'll be making up for the lost time though. Thanks much for sharing with us.
My friend went to get tickets for Birmingham in his lunch break the day they went on sale. Unfortunately they had already sold out, all these years later it still pisses me off when I think about it!
It was when i heard wuthering heights the 1st time on a countdown on The Hits channel - the first time you hear that kinda never leaves you cos i don't know about you but i've never heard a song like that before.
It was the b-side of the "King of the Mountain" single in 2005. It has never been included on any album so you have to find the single. You can probably find it on Amazon, eBay etc.
I never had the chance to see her. I discovered Kate in the summer of 1979 when I was 10 years old, and she never came to Norway. Even if she should tour again it would never be the same.
I would do anything to go back to 1979 and see her shows! I would gladly sell my soul to do it! Why can't someone invent a time machine?
Yes, if I could I would go back to 1979 and see every show on her tour. I love Kate Bush with all of my heart! To see her live would be the greatest thing in my life!
Anyway, you were very lucky to see her and also to get a letter from her.
The most innovative artist of the 1980s covers one of the best songs of the 1980s- a B side of King of the mountain. Unfortunately, Kate, Marvin Gaye nailed this song and no-one does better than him at it.
My favorite memory has to be quite simply all of it, even when the hand-made "head microphone" (made out of a metal coat-hanger)slipped from her head and one of the dancers had to hold a hand microphone to her mouth while she finished the song and danced at the same time. Her parting-comment to the crowd at the end was,"I'm not bullshittin'... I'll never forget this night."
When she finished the Sunderland Empire gig she said "I'll never forget you, Sunderland", and for the first and only time in this Geordie's and Newcastle supporter's life I cheered the name Sunderland. In the words of the Heinekin advert, "Only Kate can do zis" :D
Awesome thanks for posting!I would ask where you found this recording? All I can find are crappy bootleg sounding recordings! Please help a Kate Bush fanatic.
Thanks for posting I Love her interpretation of the original classic, part of the genius of a cover is a new way.I often hear of the original musician comment that covers are often boring and need stand out. Oh and where did you get this awesome and clean sounding version of the song all I can find is crappy bootleg versions??
I have to disagree there, I like it. Kate often shows her celtic influence on her songs, she is half-Irish after all, and in doing so on this song she at least is doing something different, not just a copy of the original.
That picture of Kate at 2.02 is possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. You are so lucky to have seen her live. I was born around the time of her tour so didn't get the chance to see her :o(
The song was written by Marvin Gaye, Odell Brown and David Ritz, and first recorded by Marvin Gaye in 1982. It's one of the all-time classic great songs, but Kate's version is as good as the original IMO
Thanks for that, brought some memories back :) I was at the Sunderland Empire gig 12th April 1979 - greatest gig I've ever seen. Unfortunately my programme disappeared after a party in my flat about a year later - wish I knew who did it, I'd put a contact out on them even now :P
Wow! Thank you for sharing! This is a real gift. I've been a fan since 1979, I was only 9 years old so just a kid when she toured and not in England. Never got to see her... :(
i know £4, i have had someone offer £50 to me for it. but i belive it can bring as much as £100 - £150, becouse it was her only tour.( i would NEVER sell it )
This is a lovely and touching tribute to Kate! I loved watching it and what a treat to see the programme! I was not even born when she did her show ... ahhh I would DIE a thousand times over just to see and hear her sing live once more :) :)
she visited glasgow doing signings of her 3rd album never forever i stood a long time that day in the rain , but it was sooooo worth it ide do it in a heart beat again.
thank you so much - this was really really great to look at, i always wondered exactly what the programme looked like ... and the photo and the letter.... wow... your very lucky ^_^
thanks so much for sharing this! i wasnt alive to be able to go and see it ;'(

Many thanks for posting this. You must be happy to have a personal letter from Kate. A tip for people watching this is to view it on full screen and you can read the writing properly.
Wow,I didn't know she'd covered this Marvin Gaye song! Very Good. She might be doing her first concert in 32 years! I must go. :-))

Dawn, you are indeed one of the chosen to have seen her live, and to have received a hand written letter too! What artist would do that now?!
Great song choice btw. As you know, she doesn't need much help with writing wonderful songs but MG would have approved of this I'm sure.

greatness. She's done it in her own style, slighty celtic folk and slighty funky. Loved it.

Interesting version, but the Celtic music added was horribly out of place in this tune.
Kate is a great talent and I love a lot of her songs.

silgen 4 years ago
Well, she's a woman with a very special voice. That's a very big difference from Marvin Gaye's fine original.
I know very well that her own music has a lot of Celtic flavour. It fits there very nicely. It is totally out of place in an R&B song.
ORCA4312 4 years ago
I thought the pipes impersonating a saxophone were a nice touch )
Anyways it's just a fun little cover. Not meant to be taken seriously. So stop grumbling.
