  • i don't know what the heck you're singing about, but I like it!

  • lol- I don't think very many people do, but thanks!

  • The cake is a lie ! ©

  • Many cakes are.

  • HIFI is alive, we test the LO tomorrow !

Thanks for the cute song :)

  • You're welcome. I'm happy you like it.

    Good luck with the test!!

  • that's really cool. I worked since 2005 up to the launch for HERSCHEL.....and now we have a hymn.

    greetings from germany, ex-HERSCHEL AIT-member

  • Thanks for checking out my video! Congrats on a successful launch.

  • Great Song :-)

    Thanks very much.

We played it in the Main Control Room.

    Greetings from ESOC,

    the Herschel Flight Control Team

  • Thanks for listening! I'm glad you folks enjoyed it.

  • Good luck Herschel! Great song too - love the "we're having a party, hope there's cake" line!

  • Thanks Lisa. I love cake.

  • fantastic song! this is really awesome! you have a really great tone on the uke as well! :]

  • Thanks; I've got aquila strings on my uke for now- I can't decide if I like them or the worths better.

  • great song!

i think your use of "infrared spectroscopy"

rivals lemmy from motorhead's use of "parallelogram" for Best Fifty Cent Word in a Song!

    rock on!

  • Thanks, Jeff. I like me some big words sometimes!

  • I thought space was already as cold as it gets. They need helium to keep it colder?

  • I guess Herschel likes it as cold as possible! Maybe he's packing some beer with him.

  • I love it. We should have asked you to play at the party! And hey: Herschel isn't all alone out there at L2. His buddy Planck is coming along for the ride and they can commiserate about the long work hours and consider joining the international union of space astronomy satellites.

  • Thanks, Peter. Congratulations again on the achievement!

Herschel and Planck will make great buddies; I just hope they don't get into too much trouble.

  • Great song M-A! And I learnt something. I hadn't heard anything about this, but I read the link about it - really cool! Hope it was a great launch party!

  • Everybody was very excited; the launch went off without a hitch.

  • Mary-Anne, this is wonderful! Well done!

  • Thank you very much.

  • Best launch party ever, and for a pretty chill dude, M-A.

  • Indeed!

  • So was there cake?

  • There were rice krispie squares, cookies, and muffins, AND champagne!

  • I didn't even know this was happening. Now I know!

  • Where were you this morning? They served champagne (and apple juice).

  • i love what you do!

    Another gem!

  • Thank you, Chris!

  • wonderfully quirky!

    great job m-a!

    : )

    p.

  • Thanks, Petri.

  • Spectacular MA - Thanks to you, I'll be thinking of Herschel as he jets about his spacely business.

  • Thanks, Grumpy. I'm sure Herschel will be plenty busy up there.

  • I don't know if you've heard of the 'freak folk' genre....just another 'label' for acoustic music that's off the wall, unique, etc. well....i love a lot of what I've heard in this genre (devendra banhart, julianna newsome, etc.)

a cd with just you and your uke would fit great in this sub-genre.....in short, I loved it!

    5* and favorited!

  • "Freak folk"- that sounds like where I'd fit.

    Thanks very, very much!

  • you're welcome.....again, it's a very good genre :)

  • Its so hard when they grow up and leave home.

  • We just have to learn to let go.

  • You have a great voice!!

Thanks for sharing your delightful song. XD

    Peace,

    Nate

  • Thanks very much, Nate.

  • Unfortunately the launch of this video coincided with YouTube's spring cleaning so no comments were allowed for awhile (Hopefully, the launch goes better for Herschel). I loved it! The masterfully clunky lyrics are so great. Sets just the right mood.

  • "Masterfully clunky"!Thank you- That's the way I roll.

  • Sorry Mary-Anne. Poor word choice. I think you're great.

  • Oh, no- don't be sorry! I totally took it as a compliment.

  • I love that strum. I hope Herschel gets to hear this song or the vibrations. I like your songs a lot.

  • Thanks, Zoe.

    That's my favorite strum.

  • Herschel is a nice name.

  • I like it too, for a space machine.

  • Originality and excellent timing/strumming and enunciation, too! Quite the offering. It is very challenging I think to tell a story in un-rhymed verse, play it and sing it too. Wow.

  • Thanks- For me rhyming is the real challenge.

  • Sh... I thought they were sending a kid into space from your song. I didn't think it was a song about a bit of tin.

The bit of tin should be very proud to have a mctrmt original composed for it. Who the hell named it Herschel? What's wrong with Mickey (as in Metal Mickey)?

  • lol- maybe Mickey would be better.

  • great job! well done! i love your voice

  • Thanks very much.

  • You write the coolest songs. Any song that mentions cake and infrared spectroscopy is pretty awesome.

  • Thanks, deach. Just trying to keep it "real".

  • wonderful - each upload is better than the last - and each time we think you've hit your peak. You are awesome !!!! 5 stars

  • So many stars and exclamation marks! Thanks!

  • Superb, Mary-Anne. Sounds like something that ought to be on the Pet Sounds album (my favourite album ever).

    5 class M's.

  • Ken Middleton, you really know how to charm a lady.

  • You really kick ass! Excuse my language, but you know how i am. That strum is so friggin cool!!! I like the line about cake. Of course. Cool song M-A.

  • Thanks, John! Expletives are always welcome, no, expected, from you.

  • you're so amazing. now i can't watch those old degrassi episodes without thinking of you. ;-) <3

  • Thank you!

    And likewise!

  • And all this science, I don't understand...

    Great song Mary-Anne!

  • Thanks Brad. It's pretty much beyond me, as well.

  • i dont think i have ever heard the words infrared spectroscopy in a song before

  • lol- I aim to provide new and enlightening listening experiences.

  • godspeed herschel, godspeed! great song mctrmt!

  • thanks, russ. Herschel is bound for adventure, I know it.

  • Well, Herschel has been farewelled properly,

by a lovely maid and a minstrel, all in one!

He'll be as proud as any knight errant.

    Good job!

  • Thanks for your kind comment, shas.

  • calm, amazing... scientific tune. best luck to dear Herschel. ukulele sounds have gotten my ears, lately. wish you a great Wednesday.

  • You're treating your ears right! They demand as much ukulele as possible in order to stay healthy.

    Good Wednesday to you, too!

  • Love it Mary-Anne! Great song and storytelling!

Have a safe trip Herschel! (who ever you are)

  • Thanks, Baron. It is a story that needed to be told.
