Sub contractors may do things that look sketch(I.e this video) but they have to make sure the job they do is alot neater and and the service is the best it can be. We have a licence that we can lose if we don't do the job right. Techs are union. They do what they want

  • This is one thing that I don't miss from working @ Comcast in Stone Mountain, Ga and surrounding areas...Our supervisors never had our back when we got stuck in jams like these. Overtime I became really good @ rescheduling jobs. A rookie would quit over some bs like this.

  • anyone who has had to deal with customers in the field knows that if this contractor said "i'm sorry, i can't get into this box bc the company didn't give me a key," the customer would most likely throw a fit and say "this is a big inconvenience and i wanna know what ur company is gonna do to make it right. i want a credit on my account!" trust me...i was a cable guy for years until recently and it happens all the time.

  • the reason he's having to break into that box is bc this is a multi dwelling unit and there is a key that opens that box, which most contractors can tell u the cable company doesn't provide contractors with normally. it's a bit of an oversight, but even when they're informed of the problem, they still do nothing about it. and so they end up with broken boxes so that they can finish the job for the whining customer.

  • I used to work for a subcontractor (triwire) installing cable for comcast, and they would send us out without the keys that we needed to get into the boxes because some of them got lost. so you had to either break into them or drive around for 45 min to find someone with a key which was a waste of your own time since you got paid piecework. his jacket looks like a triwire jacket

  • Cable work is underpaid. The guy posing this video doesn't understand this or what the work consists of. Working 12 hours a day, not getting paid for some work, dealing with incompetent associates, dispatch and disgruntled customers. Cable techs don't create these situations, rather they must deal with them. Sitting on an AC unit is harmless. If this box, like so many had been broken into, or the cheap locks broke, then he would have to pry the box open. LIKE OMG he SAT on the AC, THEN WORKED!!!

  • This is a multi unit box, sometimes thieves try to get in the box and screw up the star lock on the box. These old boxes need to go is what is the problem I'm guessing or he lost his special star key screw driver at his last job and tried using a needle nose to unlock it.... All I can say is I have had my problems getting into these damn boxes myself many times

The only other contractors that do installs in our area are certified electricians who intall business class services. I wear a tool belt and carry a meter to measure for proper levels. Such as recieve and transmit levels. Also known as forward and return path. I am a top notch service tech. and installer. I do it all phone, data/hso and cable. Techs like this guy can't touch me..

He should have told you to drop dead and booked someone to come back to break into it at a later date. Just a tip: If the box can't be opened because the lock is messed up, this is the only way to open it. It then gets referred back to be repaired, so you have cable.

  • the person that posted this is a complete idiot, it was obvious that the tech was having a problem with the MDU box. (the star lock gets stripped on these from time to time) and it wouldn't matter if it was a contractor or a Comcast employee; a stuck box is a stuck box. to be honest, if he was recording me, that would have ended the install at that point and I would have called it in to dispatch and rescheduled his ass, send it into the MDU pool, and let him sit without his precious cable.

  • Honestly -- There is nothing wrong with this picture. You can blame the providers of the "boxes". The providers had a tendency to actually use chearper parts that eventually stop working properly due to over use. This is part of a every day job that a cable has to go through. We dont live in a "perfect world' where the built in locks dont break down.

    I applaud this tech for even trying to get in a box that is that size. I would have rescheduled until box is fixed.

  • I had to do this once and im a tech. The lock they put on the lockbox was actually updated and nobody but inhouse had the keys so i had to break into it just so the customer can have service. I beat the hell out of that box.

  • Another thing, the technicians do not have anything to do with how your service performs, We just install the service make sure the decible level has correct feed for each box or modem. Make sure you have a picture and leave. We do not create the boxes jack ass. If comcast is able to cut your box off and on from anyone of there locations then its obvious that your box is installed correctly jack ass.   • I was a tech for ComCast. Those boxes may be a little hard to get into from time to time. I believe this is because of people restoring there on cable they made the boxes a little tricky to get into even for technicians that work for the company as you can obviously see from this technician that asked to use a crowbar (looks like a little flat head screw driver) to try and open the box. Your a dickhead, what are you mad he sat down on your wittle ac unit. Break your camera and then your face.

The internet and the tv used to be on two separate bills, that way, if one got shut off, the other would still be on. Hell, anyone can look up at a pole after a hard disconnect and see where it was and connect it right back.

  • @venom769 I like Comcast. I really love their programming and I happily send them $100+ every month. In this case if it was a tech that needed to have service connected they would have been able to do it themselves, thus not having to wait for someone to come out.

    This video of ONE tech, not all. I posted it is because it was so ridiculous and extraordinary that I didn't think anyone would believe it happened. I'm sure the majority of their techs are hard working and reliable, unlike this guy.

I have been in situations where I had to break in to our own box to hook up/fix someones cable tv/phone service.  I guess I could have easily cancelled the job and have the customer wait even longer to get his service fix/installed, i'm sure they would be more happy that way. people have no clue what these guys go through, in general, customers are fuckholes.

  • @fcarabat Yes, but we have a choice about where our hard earned money is spent. I need TV & Internet, but I don't necessary need Comcast. AT&T can give me the same programming and Internet. Clear can give me broadband. I'm not trying to say that all installers are stupid or that he wasn't trying to make me happy by ensuring my service was connected that day. Hopefully, this was a unique situation and proper tools are used in most cases by dependable installers.

  • @fcarabat there are expectations when someone works on a home, i.e. the job is done correctly, looks presentable, not leaving gates open, not leaving trash on the property. That is respect to the homeowner. Easy. If you don't want to do any of those I can and will be a dick. We don't ask that you bend over backwards, we want no special service, just do the job right the first time so we don't have to wait around an entire day for you to show up and fix your sloppy work. Let's rewind back to this specific youtube video: I don't agree with the technician sitting on top of the customers (or even another persons) air conditioner, that's something I wouldn't have done myself, but, as for his "breaking into the box", well, he's trying to get that person his/her service so the cust. service is not delayed. All i'm saying is for everyone to speak nice and treat each other with respect. job will get done well.

  • @davidatlanta this guy is hard at work trying to open that box which we got no key for. that box uses 5 stars and we were given the 6 sided or 8 sided keys so theres no way in hell he can get inside that box without prying that open with brute force. So what is wrong with your comcast services? is your internet not working. You know what just go ahead and switch to AT&T and see how happy you will be with their services.

  • @MercC23k From an employee you have to see it from their side. Onsite you have 2 options as a tech, either 1: cancel the job because you cant access the box and make the customer wait for an SRO to be placed to open it (can take 5-7+days) . Or 2: verify with the customer its ok to break it open (even though its company property) then just snap the lock, install the services and zip tie it back to prevent water damage. *Id rather do whats needed to resolve the issue and prevent a future trip*

They all are acting like the OP of this video should be sucking their dicks since they gave him the time of day. And I have yet to meet a cable installer who either, A. Knew how to do his job properly and B. Did it without complaint. Every cable employee I have met has bitched about having to do their job, and 90% couldn't find their ass if they had a map.
