Honestly, I don't care if it is rehearsed or memorized, it is still amazing for her to understand the tone structure and communicate efficiently and effectively at that age.
How does she do it? She not just reads but understands the semantics. I know hindi. And I think she was very good. In fact, the person posing questions did not pose questions where she could speak much. She kept on asking her what do u do when u go out.
HAHAH. She totally avoided the question which the speaker asked her. She asked her to tell a story but she AVOIDED IT AT ALL COSTS. Like "do you wanna eat?" or "I don't know what story...", "what..?"
Not only can she speak those eleven languages enough to communicate, but also can read... wonder if she writes all of them too. =)
Her Mandarin and Cantonese sounds really good.
I actually think she has a pretty normal childhood - she plays, and it sure doesn't look like she has a rigorous schedule of learning. You can tell that she is enjoying the beauty of the languages and being able to communicate.
Wish I was literate in that many languages - only know 5 languages enough to communicate.
She never will be able to read Japanese/Chinese. It's too complicated. e.g. even with effort, an above average person who studies only Japanese finds reading the Japanese language difficult.
@kiiaz fine then. i'll hand u a piece of japanese literature and if u can read it, i'll give you a million dollars. (If u r 4y.o. start studying now. If your 20+ keep dreaming.)
What is a real kid? something that you were indoctrinated to understand as that? to think that this girl isn't enjoying her life as much, if not more, than any other child? you assume she is pushed to being brilliant, like any human couldn't want to be smart and intelligent and be normal. I myself am very impressed. very bright and brilliant GIRL!
i dont like someone who teach her that languages too much! 10 years old, she must be playing like normal children.. have a happy childhood.. I am 12 years old, and busy with my study and my lesson.. i think i will be crazy... but my paretns understand and now im free of school for 2 weeks... i dont have to study.. and i think that will be great for wendy.. have more liesure time,,, i think her individuality, not like 10 years old... but like 9.. look at the begining.. i feel bad for her.sorry

ok.. sorry.. but when i was a lil, i like windy too.. i know many languages, but when my parents want to record me, i feel so bad and very bad.. and it change my individuality.. im now a quiet girl bcoz i dont want anyone do that to me... :'( its sucks and none understand my feeling.. but i love windy :) shes great
Well... the Chinese people from Vietnam that I know speak Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, and some French...and now English being in the USA. I guess Chinese people are just more fluent than Vietnamese.
The fact that she's young is an asset in learning new languages. Older people cannot learn languages easily. Even Arabic, Japanese, and Russian are not difficult for a young child to learn when they are properly exposed to these languages, attested by the fact that there are lots of kids who can speak those languages. I myself spoke 3 languages by the time I was 8, and I was certainly no prodigy and was not pressured or trained...just exposed. However, she certainly is gifted and trained well.
This girl may be from Vietnam, but she's ethnically Chinese, like so many Vietnamese immigrants to the USA. As such, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and French are already languages that are commonly spoken there.
Actually, most Hoa people like me know how to speak Vietnamese and/or Cantonese. Mandarin is not the native language of the Hoa people. French is rarely spoken by the average Vietnamese person.

I'm half impressed. This is because any normal functioning child (mentally) is capable of speaking as many languages if their parents supplied the resources to teach them at such a very young age.
This little girl is awesome, she can also read the languages. But I wonder if she can have some time to be a real kid and play with friends and all that stuff... I feel like she is a little bit forced to do this. I hope she can use all this knowledge in the future, Congratulations.
How can a forced child even DO this? I mean, you can't force a child to play the piano beautifully and compose songs for it. You can't force a child to learn 11 languages in 8 years. At least, you can't force them and have it worked so well. Of course, she probably has some pressure, but I'm sure she just has this natural talent. And she looks like she's having fun making these videos anyway.
Outstanding! what a great way to expand your mind and develop an appreciation for different cultures. She's going to excel in life because she has the advantage of communicating with so many different people, and she's developed a way to retain information fast. The fact is, all children are capable of this kind of thing.
She speaks good Cantonese which has 9 tones whereas Chinese (or Mandarin) has only 5 tones. They are so different to the other languages she speaks. I think she could speak to most of the world's 6.6 billion people. Amazing talent.
aha so ironic! i understoond the chinese and cantonese. because she speaks 11 languages, which is a phenomenal feat but can't count lol! (maybe just a slip though)
the teacher asked how long have you been studying chinese in cantonese. then she said six.
teacher: "i thought you said you started learning chinese from 3? so is it five or six years?"
she actually has a very good manderin accent... though probably accent spoken by Chinese people outside of Beijing. and... it's interesting that people think that people from beijing speak "standard manderin."
In taiwan, we say they have a "beijing accent" which sounds really different from the accent we speak. and i don't think you would call the accent in Taiwan "non-standard manderin." it's kind of like calling the English spoken in England
i can only speak 8 language, this kid is amazing. i speak japanese and english as my first languages then, spanish, tagalog, french, american sign language, korean, russian and now i'm learning chinese as my 9th language
I speak 8 languages, she speaks perfect english (of course she lives in the USA), and I imagine perfect vietnamese. She speaks spanish and french with an accent, but not so strong. Goog portuguese. She understands russian, although she speaks so and so...but still, she's incredible...way to go girl!

Amazed by her compositions, do she learn theory, or have a teacher teach her how to compose? Still not impressive with her Chinese as she try to avoid telling a story and talk with sentences like An ABC American born Chinese) will use. Don't blame her, Chinese is most difficult language in all the languages she speaks.
Her piano skill is amazing, but Mandarin Chinese is just so so, good enough for kid speaks 11 languages. I was hoping my daughter learn more than two languages, but after she is learning three instruments, two of them are in grade 6 level. She is also a champion of fiddling. And she is winning awards for Karate and art. I decide English and Chinese are enough for now.
OMG she speaks hindi so well ......im born and raised in India and can say only a few word... she's way better than me....
