Foxes have kind of become a new exotic pet, i am not saying it is a good thing and although i would not be above taking in a baby if it's mother died or abandoned it but i am more of a big dog sort of person, not after exotic pets. Some day there will probably be AKC foxes out there as there is with cats, dogs, birds, and reptiles. My arctic baby is the most loyal animal I've ever had, always by my side, the only one to sleep curled up on the bed next to me. I raised her since she was a small kit, only a few weeks old. She is very active, and needs more attention than the dogs. But there are many animals living in neglect with abusive owners. My husky/sheltie mix was an abused dog, and our cat was abandoned. Also, i know a breeder that wont sell their kits to owners who can't support taking care of them fully.

@yellan13 Soon people wold do that to foxes, forced ti be raised as pets, abandoning and abusing them just as actual pets. Humans always try to do things to their beneffit not thinking in other ecosystems.Just because they are cute that doesn't mean you can have one as a pet.

@kaiandshadow want to know the honest to god truth??? my fox would have been a fur if not with me. The taming of foxes began long before they were pets. They were tamed to be easier to handle while in containment for growth for fur. Now they've started to be sold as pets instead. These foxes CANT live in the wild if you let them go. They don't have the ability to survive anymore, they just can't live in the wild....

@yellan13 Artic foxes are not in critical danger, they are at min concern. OBVIOUSLY if you raise a fox as a pup it wont be able to survive in the wild thats a fact. If you cout how many individuals are in the wild you'll see they CAN live out there.

Nontheless, it is a shame stupid people buy fur just for fashion, but that activity is decreasing, if you see the new subspecies of foxes they are dogs, but with fox genes. Wild animmals are not pets!

@kaiandshadow nobody is suggesting you go out in the wild and snag a fog and take it in as a pet... the foxes used as pets were, in the past, raised on farms purely for their fur. These lines of animals are no longer capable of SURVIVING in the wild. Of course the ones born and raised wild can survive (although at a lesser chance than tamed foxes if you know a mothers habits with their kits (they eat their kits)). So you can see, if they are happier with us, they have a wonderful life with us...

Why do you think its cruel to own a fox? I have an arctic fox, and she's wonderfully happy living with my 2 other dogs and cat. She lives in a very open space and we live in the country where she has plenty of space to romp around. We even let her loose.. something we can't do with our dogs because they've ran away when we do it... Before you condemn people for being careful and responsible owners of a beautiful animal, maybe think about the millions of neglected pets living in poor conditions..

People! If you love foxes how can you force them to live with you? That is cruel, focus your time and energy on restoring them in the wild. Just because their cute and cuddly doesn't mean you can make them tame selfishly, would you keep a dolphin in your bathtub?

@Iceprincessforlife Agreed. Not to start a debate on global warming but if it exists then that makes it harder for polar bears to hunt seals. Arctic Foxes follow the bears around and eat whatever is leftover from the seal kill. But back to your point; yes hunting these foxes is wrong.
