The low collection resulting from people not donating could be (and certainly would be) interpreted by the USCCB as just a symptom of the poor economic condition of the country.
I would like to suggest that instead of not giving anything, people should paint pennies blood red with nail polish and mail it to CCHD.
This is why we suggest putting the coupon to explain why no donation in the basket. Also, the CCHD is well-aware of this campaign and will know why donations are low.
But, download and print the coupon - linked in the description!
This is, if you will forgive me, a terrible plan. It will cost 42c for a stamp, plus the penny itself, plus the cost of the envelope etc. Call it 50c.
If a million Catholics do this, that is $500K - half a million dollars. And that is WASTED money. Money that COULD have gone to a pro-life cause.
It is like red-envelope campaign; that was horrible. People spent millions of dollars in total and all that happened is the furnaces ran at the White House as they burned the letters. The money was totally wasted.
Imagine what could be done with the funds spent on stunts like this.
Print the coupon - that is virtually nothing. Write a letter on a scrap of paper if you don't have a printer. Don't give money to the Federal Govt. in postage!
There is a VAST amount of money spent every day on making political points - and of course all of it could be better used on pro-life causes.
But, making this point IS a pro-life activity.
And at 50¢ a pop, it's certainly the least expensive one I make.
Notes dropped into the collection basket go to your parish leaders. Does the pastor even see them? And if he does, do they go anywhere after that? USCCB doesn't even have to ignore or spin what it doesn't ever see.
How does sending pennies to the USCCB save babies? The USCCB knows about this campaign - they can "spin" a low donation total as "economic woe" but they will know the truth.
At 50c a pop, it is 50c more expensive than dropping a note in the basket. If one million people do what you suggest, that is 1/2 million dollars away from pro-life causes.
That is a lot of sidewalk councilling. Heck, isn't that an ultrasound scanner machine?

Not to say this is the main reason for many of the problems in the church, but it's not a far stretch to say that ONE of the reasons you have homosexuals in church leadership is because of the requirement (which didn't exist for the first 1200 years of Christianity) that Priests and Bishops be celibate.
That's not the case - firstly, the discipline of celibacy has been in place since the earliest days. The vast majority of priests have been and are unmarried (although there are exceptions).
And the homosexual problem only took off once society began to approve of the moral evil of sodomy. This has nothing to do with the unmarried status of priests.
If priests were allowed to be married, how would that stop homosexuals from entering? They would not HAVE to be married.
Amen. Of course, if you are the Obama White House, then speaking truth to power is complaining about Fox news.
No, seriously. That is what they called it. Erm, guys? You are in power. Stop campaigning. Start governing. And maybe stop killing babies and appointing people who advocate child-rape to important positions.
Thank God for the new generation of priests! The seminaries were corrupt for decades and are now becoming more orthodox so the younger priests and bishops are more orthodox than the older ones.
It's impossible for the bad guys to win because this is the One True Church, but we don't have to make it easy for them ;)
