  • imagine if darwin's great-great grandson were a creationist haha the irony

  • 08:20 WTF! Darwin was in my city? i didn´t know!

  • i love Dawkins accent!!!

  • hey maybe this means the religious people too stupid to understand science will become a completely separate species to those of us who have a broader mental capacity? lol

  • 4 generations is all it took and that guy didn't even resemble Darwin himself. See how evolution works now?

  • Take their HIV resistence gene sequence and gimme!!

  • The thing is that nowdays we don't struggle to survive (atleast some of us) so we have time to think questions as "why do we exist". Stop eating for couple of days and I quarantee you that you have new will to live and you won't think questions that deep :D

  • @Leyjoes they had a thing in japan for suicidal people because their suicide rates were so high, they'd have the classroom full of suicidal people sit down and write their own will out, and they'd have their favourite meal on their desk. they would read their will aloud to the class, then hop into coffins and lay in there for an hour. when they got out they all realised that death is it, no messing around. i think we should do that to our depressed people.

  • @Leyjoes I just came to know Jesus 2 years ago, so I know exactly where you're coming from. The thing is, no one can help you believe in Him, that's between you and God. I just wanted to reflect upon your "stop eating for a couple days" comment...I thought it was ironic because most Christians are familiar with fasting.

  • Humans don't want to think they are just a bit more evolved than the lower animals . They want their existence to have MEANING and PURPOSE.

  • @kadene2 life is beautiful, that should be enough of a meaning. if they feel that life is meaningless, then they're depressed.

  • The great great grandson of Darwin was also the great nephew of J.M. Keynes. What a nice family tree, ( :

  • 4:24 I would have Lol'd if Dawkins busted into an evolution seminar right there and then.

  • jesus is the greatest con man.

  • 2:24

that is one sick ass octopus.........

    :)

  • The color-changing Octopus scene amazed me @ 2:29. I never some of them could do that.

  • @GailMallory should probably throw a "knew" in there somewhere. =P

  • I wonder if her HIV resistance was due to CCR5 delta 32.

  • To Exlax 123: please don't imply that "faggot" is an insult.

  • @jeanfou1 Yeah ... why should that be an insult?? In America everyone seems to think that ... so confusing.

  • My family has the blood that resisted the black death.

  • They shouldnt call it selection..They should just call it interaction. Cos its species interaction and coping with that that spurs evolution

  • Jesus=troll

  • @StanRather wtf man, that's totally unprofessional. Just to insult another's belief doesn't mean you insult them. I myself am a christian and i'm pretty insulted. That's like me saying Atheists are faggots.

  • @Exlax123 Huh?

  • @StanRather ohhh lmao

  • Everything Dawkins says makes sense to me.

However a question. Because we are intervening in the process of natural selection (in the case of AIDS), does that not mean we are prolonging the existence of the virus? We must be intervening in many areas due to advances in medicine, knowledge, awareness etc...in relation to the human race anyway.

  • We can see large brains and the societies and memes that arise because of language as another kind of evolution that is taking place. Just as people's bodies can adapt to viruses. Ideas or memes can spread and serve as adaptations. Most of the advance in humans can be explained through the evolution of ideas and the way they effect our societies and our behavior.

  • "So, if someone is resistant to a virus like HIV, when exposed to it,did that person suddenly evolve something? If so,thats against the belief of evolution. If so, than we could see things evolving right before our eyes very quickly! etc..."

    Stop visiting creationist websites.

  • "So, if someone is resistant to a virus like HIV, when exposed to it,did that person suddenly evolve something? If so,thats against the belief of evolution."

Evolution probably doesn't contradict evolution, I would think. Random mutations are...well...sort of the idea of evolution.

  • The gene was not always present in these females. A mutation in their genes created this resistance. Take your feeble mind and leave, come back once you understand these -basic- concepts of evolution.

  • Macro evolution IS micro evolution

Simply over a longer time span

What exactly do you not understand about that?

  • BeachofDreams,

What does boiling water, hair growth, child growth, etc have to do with natural selection?

    ha ha ha!

I think you are missing the whole point!

Evolution is not just "change", but specifically change brought about by natural selection of the genetic material of a population of organisms from one generation to the next.

"Macro" evolution is simply the same thing (evolution) over a long period, i.e. many generations.

  • Have you ever heard of stellar evolution? Look it up. My examples were of macro-change, not neccessarily macro-biological evolution.

And evolution is not neccessarily equivalent with natural selection. All change by natural selection is evolution, but not all evolution is by natural selection.

  • Well, your comment was in reply to another comment about macro evolution and how it is the same as micro evolution over a longer period.

If you wanted to change the subject, that's fine but it helps if you let other people know what you are talking about - but whatever.

  • yes, and a specific point was made of the basic equivalence of macro- and micro- ; my point is that the growth of temperature, children, hair, or whatever other example where incremental change occurs, there is no qualititative difference between orders of magnitude or scale.

And I never claimed that any of the examples I gave were of evolution - especially in the modern biological sense.

  • OK...

  • Boiling water!!? evolution / macro-change? really?

  • @DevJL..That is why "Darwin" changed into "Dawkins" to adapt to his own habitat ;)!!!

  • @DevJL douchebag

  • What a guy, what a legend... go go Charles Darwin!

  • Yes, and you will be too sooner or later. What difference does it make?

  • yeah - and he knew it.

religious people will too... whether or not they want to believe it - so they'll let people manipulate them (churches for examples) in a bid to escape it (death).

  • Your brain dead for eternity. *facepalm*

  • @ardleny don't you mean "go go gadget 'evolution'".

  • damn he was real close to that lion.....but he was real busy chowing down

  • You gotta grow up and let your balls drop first :)
