I remember this as well. the introducer was saying how clever they were for using a german word, like those who say how " articulate " footballers are who can put a couple of sentences together. they were never the same after robert wyatt left.
i have a hard time accepting post 1970 soft machine because i know there are people that probably did this kind of thing better, though for all i know they may have been pioneers in the jazz field..........that said, i can now enjoy this for what it is.
Honestly, I understand your sentiment, but from third to sixth, Soft Machine did a form of jazz rock, that I have never really heard replicated. It does not stand out as distinctive to the same degree as Volume 2 or Moon in June, but I find myself being amazed at how distinctive and enjoyable 3-6 Soft Machine were. Once Hopper leaves and Jenkins really began to take over, and Holdsworth joined their sound shifted towards a less distinctive form of jazz rock/fusion.
It was indeed 'Full House', as you say. I remember seeing it at the time! Presented by Joe Melia, the Soft Machine also played another piece. Brilliant stuff.
@drumgit yes he's truly light and powerful at the same time....one of the best and most underrated...but the skilled listeners know him very well....tks for posting this track...
Another "new" video-treasure. I love you folks, all of you who dig them for us to watch...I waited 25 and more years to watch a Softmachine Video and now there are dozens on YouTube ! Thanks also again to the wonderful YouTUbe site and community...please go on to dig treasures !
I remeber the guy introducing the band talking about some warehouses being sold for £100 grand for conversion to flats.
