My dad, Jack Parkinson, of the Surbiton and Kingston Folk Club, used to sing this when I was a little girl and I always loved it. The French version is lovely too and gets played on French radio quite often, which is what prompted me to find this. Thank you!
I haven't heard this song since I was a boy. Brings back some good memories of all of us kids sitting around listening to music and having a good time. Thanks for uploading it.
@whitemughal If, you speak French, which I do not. I do like the musical score. I do speak Russian, Polish, German, and Ukrainian. But not French. Never got the time. (Or the will). An aside, I do not have any respect for the French. How many Frenchmen would it take to keep Paris from being invaded?? No one knows, it's never been tried. =Stefan=
@chengloki 1/ You don't have to speak a language to listen to a song in that language 2/ anyone proclaiming to "have no respect" for any people as a whole is a complete idiot and potential nazi.
@deadxkorps Of course, let's forget about what the Nazis did to my people, the Ukranian people. As for respect for the French, I have to admit, that other than Lafayette, the French have always been there, when they needed us. =Stefan=
I'm not being facetious, mate. Sorry if it comes across like that. I'm not being sarcastic, or anything, I'm just quite ignorant about Ukraine history (something I hope to rectify soon, as I expect it to be fascinating, though and full of extraordinary events, if it is anything like the last 100 years)
Hm. I just looked down at your ridiculous post about the French! Fuck me! You've really swallowed Americas anti-France propaganda, haven't you?
@Triplesod Actually, not. I have been to France and I have experienced the French arrogance. I kept my temper in check until that damned Frog insulted my ship! You never insult a Sailor's ship to his face!!!!! I had only one choice, and I took it. I broke that asswhole's jaw. My shipmates got me back aboard before the cops arrived. Yes, I have first hand experience with those jerks. =Stefan=
@Triplesod No further comment. You said it all!!!Enjoy your reefer. And be a leach on the country. You must enjoy that. I have nothing but contempt for you. =Stefan=
@TheVerinen2 BANDURA was a musical instrument devised by Kozaks blinded in battle. It had any where from 60 to 69 strings. As for supporting Hitler, My Dad was a member of the Ukrainian underground! He fought Hitler and the Nazis. Look, kid I am not some teenager,I am almost 60!!II I do not rely on alternate history. I know what happened. If you wan't to believe alternate history, read Harry Turtledove. =Stefan=
ps: This song is great, I love both The Highwaymen version and Aufray's version. There also was a version of this song Catalan that I'd heard long ago (although I don't speak this language) but can't find it anymore and can't remember the name.
Found this amongst my Dads old 45's. Great song !

It's hard to find much music by the folk group-- the REAL Highwaymen. Thanks.

Not bad but nothing on Hugues Aufray's spirited French version.

@chengloki Sorry mate but you sound like a right tit!
I had a long post set out for you but I lost it, as I'm a reet fuckin' dope. I'd post it up again but I don't think you're worth the bother.
If you were just an "asswhole" (sic), I'd probably go out of my way but as you seem to be as dull as they come, I have no motivation.
