Cell cultures, eye banks, stem cell, and possibly in vitro (once developed) are more modern, accurate measures of testing. Morality doesn't have to be questioned anymore. The process is simply outdated.

Animals at my university are not suffering and are very well cared for because I am the one caring for them. Most of the time, I cannot even see any signs of what the investigators are doing with them. It may be as simple as drawing blood once a week.

Oh no wait I forgot something this not just legal they have to do this by law. Every drug (medicament) has to be tested on animals. First on mice and a if a high number of mice survive the drug passes the first test, then it's the turn of the rabbits or pigs (or sometimes dogs). And the last animals are of course the monkeys.
