  • Sorry ...phone screwed it up, you get the point! Great job! :-)

  • Such a great flashback to the days of listen todetailed Dr. Demento!!! Set to video no less! Thanks for the great trip plus excellent work on putting the video together! (poppies)!!!! Loved it!!!

  • The slideshow was ok, a lil cheesy, but ok. Then the python clip. A personal fave and perfect finale.

  • Thank you so much Jester you are my hero today

  • omg... wtf... lol

  • Life's a bitch and then you die. Man must endure in his coming as in his going hence. Ripeness is all. Keep yourself busy.

  • BRILLIANT!

  • finally! ive been looking for this song for soo long! this is now my favorite song! WOOHOO!!!

  • i think for the illusions part the book would be more on point amazon.com/Illusions-Adventures-Reluctant-Richard-Bach/dp/0440204887

  • such a great song.

strange question, but where does the clip about 17 seconds (the fairy) in come from? cause that is super-cool and i would really like to see a clean copy of it...

  • Lmfao this made my day

  • i thought this would make me cut back on beer and other stuff. i was wrong

  • DUDE!!!!! GREAT JOB ON THIS, REALLY, ROFLMBO!!!!! I HAVE NOT HEARD THIS IN SOOOOO LONG LOL THANK YOU!!!!!!

  • brilliant visuals to a brilliant work of art, thanks!

  • ha ha ha...well done! I have been looking for a vid of this classic Dr. D song for years! The Python bit at the end was a nice surprise!

  • This song scared the SHIT out of me when I was a kid- so much so that I actually wrote to Tom "T-Bone" Stankus asking him what it was all about. He very generously wrote me back- unfortunately I lost his letter a long time ago. Wish I still had it...

  • Sweet.

  • OMG! After groovin to E.B. which I have not heard in years..it gets topped off with "Find The Fish"! I WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • epic! my fav song from Dr Demento show

  • Years later I STILL love this!!! :-)

  • Okay, it was awesome just from the Existential Blues, but when you add Monty Python's the Meaning Of Life, you have a thing of GODLY PROPORTIONS!!

  • It is true! The impossible dream part is missing. When this song was chose to be released to cd, via best of Dr. Demento cd's, it was edited for time. At the 1:49 mark, just after he says he's on a quest, he then would say "To dream the impossible." Just listen thru the songs where you can hear a break. That phrase is also in at least one more part of the song. But still a good song from back in the day!

  • remember hearing this on Dr. Demento, he said the song is by a Tom "T-bone" Stankus or something like that, not sure on the spelling.

  • The're healthy because they eat LARD."

And there's that Monty Python I enjoy so much. Fishy! Go Fishy Go!

  • It's the edited version with "dream the impossible dream" bits cut out.

  • @retroexplosion1

Yeah, the Impossible Dream lyrics infringed copyright laws. When was the last time Man of LaMancha was played anywhere? (I know the frequency of a performance has nothing to do with copyright, but by the time the copyright runs out the lyric won't have any significance.)

  • Epic song, and you have made an awesome video to go with it. Well done!

  • Great video!!

I think I'm freaking out man!!!

I'd better call the Rock n' roll doctor.

  • I remember recording this from the DR D show (97FM Dallas) on a Radioshack cassette in 1979. The tape still lives! I have ALWAYS bloved this song!

  • This song first corrupted me in the mid 80's. Listening to it now, explains alot on how I turned out the way I have

  • Thank you, won't we?

  • If you listen to this too many times, your brain commits suicide.

  • hey they cut out dream the impossible dream

  • @chefbard

No they didn't... You just blacked out and missed it. Listen again...

  • @jesterevilyn no they did cut it out1!!!

  • @jesterevilyn Erm no, chefbard is right. 1:50 should be "I was on a quest, to dream the impossible dream..."

  • @chefbard check out wabbitt86 version.

  • @chefbard They had to. The owners of that song where not happy with the use of the song and made him cut it out.

  • Hey I was looking for the Tom who use to play in Norwich all the years ago... he wrote a a song called Exitensial blues

... Not really sure I have the same person but how many folks guys have a song called Existential Blue;s ??, I have the record !! Listening to it I think I have the wrong person :p But good for you !!

  • @asheleana11

    Thank you, won't we?

  • Hey I was looking for the Tom who use to play in Norwich all the years ago... he wrote a a song called Exitensial world... Not really sure I havwe the same person but how many folks guys have a song called Existential Blue;s ??, I have the record !! Listening to it I think I have the wrong person :p But good for you !!

  • Holy Crap. Been decades. Nice!!

  • This is my favorite out of all the Dr. Demento show songs.

  • Fishy Fishy Fishy Fish.......Thx.....Peace

  • Great video and silly, silly song.

  • what in the world was at the end.. lmao

And it went... wherever I... did go

  • @V8FordTempo

An excerpt from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life... "It's in his TROUSERS!"

  • Well that was thoroughly entertaining, one might call it pleasantly pedantic.

  • Very witty editing. Cool beans, man!

    Thanks for doing that.

But thank you even more for posting this song to hear again, for the first time in like 25 years!

Would you believe I still sing this from beginning to end for people today, and still get like 75% from memory--!?!? LOL

    So stoked this is lost-and-found.

  • @pilgrimpictures

    It is our pleasure...

  • 6:03 XD

  • i am not worthy ...

    effin' art :)

    Long live TBone

  • cool noodles

  • I love this song..I grew up listening to Dr. Demento in the 80's( I am in my Thirties now), and have always felt that this song in particular had all the answers. Thanks for making this!

  • I remember hearing this on Dr. Demento! I was too young to appreciate or understand it though, and it lasted soooo loooong. The part of the song that I never forgot was "Poppies! Poppies! Poppies!". Excellent video! :)

  • I have a recording of this with the line "To dream the impossible dream" not cut out of it. He used to perform once a month in a bar not too far from my house. He refused to play this song as he was getting tired of trying to explain it to the drunks.

  • @Orlor Ha... that is great, I would have loved to see him live. They just don't make em like that anymore...

    Thanx 4 watching

  • @Orlor He was great live. When I was a student at Eastern CT, I was on the entertainment committee and convinced them to book him in. Then, later, at another college I did the same thing. I still have his demo tape with this song on one side (along with Volcano), and on the other side I recorded Existential Blues Pt 2 and KMart Blues.

  • @Orlor Is the uncut version live or the studio version. I'd love a copy of the original. I have it on cassette somewhere but can't find it.

  • I remember listening to this as on Dr. Demento's show on Sunday nights on 94.7 Fm KMET as great memories!

  • I haven't heard this song forever. Thank you!

  • LMAO! A true classic! MEt TOM,many years ago,here in CT,funny guy!

  • Not bad at all. Shame Dr D is on so few radio stations these days, but he is still around:

His website is his name, with the usual stuff at each end. (Wow, Youtube; what a useless thing to give an unexplained error message on...)

If you're a fan, go join the club.

  • I never get tired of this video. I hope you guys are doing good. Love and miss you guys! :0)

  • Reminds me very much of Alice's Restaraunt. Very awesome.

  • @DemoniteDreams You can get anything you want at that place!

  • i grew up listening to Dr. Demento first on KLOS then KROQ down south. If it weren't for him; i would have been sent to juvenille hall or been incarcarated. These songs were my drugs.

  • It's been 20 years since I heard it but I thought of it today for some reason. And every last second of it is burned into my brain. Thank you Dr. D.

  • The singer of this song goes by the name: Tom "T-Bone" Stankus.

  • fishy fishy fishy fish!

  • wonderful song, haven't heard it in years - the video is great - thanks!

  • Those two are my favorites. Have memorized them and sang / voiced along. Thanks so much!

  • It's a genre-spanning showtune-encompassing nutslice of oddball genius, yet all I can think is "hey look, that blonde chick can DT a sausage". I suck!

  • So the wizard is Tom Waits?

  • weird, i must be looking at a diff vid than you guys, not only does mine not say its monty python, but the impossible dream stuff is still in it...must be the Poppies !

  • POPPIES, POPPIES, POPPIES..LOL

  • DUDE, they were smoking some GOOOOOOOD pot.

  • i adore this...but i wish the Dream the impossible dream part was still in there...oh well ^.^

  • I memorized this my freshmen year in high-school.

I won't tell you how long ago that was.

    =)

  • man i love this song, used toi listen to dr demento all the time ! went right to faves.not bad on the vid piece together :-)

  • Wish the poster would change it, this most certainly NOT Monty Python, Tom even tells you his name in the song.

  • Wish in 1 hand...

    Shit in the other...

See which one gets full first...

  • Thats a crappy attitude

  • i didn't type that o.o i think my mom (jesterevilyn) typed that when they were accidentally on my account ^.^;

  • If you mean the poster of the video, they didn't say it was Monty Python. That bit at the end, however, IS Monty Python (from their "Meaning of Life" film).

  • POPPIES

  • 94.7 KMET dwiddle dee!

  • I was on a Quest....to dream the Impossible Dream...left out! Copyright?

  • Yes... read back at the beginning of the comments...

Thanx for bending your cranium around this...

  • just another version :)

  • Damn...you're right! I thought that something sounded a bit off (besides the whole song of course)

  • Thank you! That was sooo funny!!

  • i remeber listening to DR DEMENTO back in the 5th grade (1980) and hearing this song for the first time. its still one of my favs. i was surised to find it on YOUTUBE.............

  • Memories, light the corners of my mind-Wow, they are odd ones, I remember a fire, and a front yard, a volkswagen bus out front, wow. thx

  • excallent!

  • brilliance beyond belief.. that's all i have to say

  • Brilliantly absurd?!&%&(^$#*@#$%

  • I'd rather have this bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

  • Crazy song :)

  • this song is brilliant and it also brings back a lot of memorys from listening to KMET 94.7 in california on sunday nights .

  • do i know you ?? lolol The Mighty Met, aint been beat yet. happy Doctor Demen-tooooo! peace

  • Comment removed

  • All right, tighten your shorts pilgrim and sing like the Duke. 3:00

  • O___O

    what...did i SMOKE?

  • Is this really Butte, Montana? I hope not. We used to listen to this while booking prisoners at the Federal Prison at Terminal Island 28 years ago. Outstanding production, Jesterevilyn.

  • Thank you Dr Demento, you have enriched my life.

  • Agreed!

  • I think existentialism is one of the most pointless concepts out there. I've been thrown into an existence which I never asked to be in. Why must I find a purpose for myself to exist? Even if there is any kind of creator (which I don't believe in), it is up to the creator to answer the question of why he created me. In the meantime, I'm going to exist for whatever reason I want to exist! (Or, if I so choose, no longer exist.)

  • You ask so many questions. What answers should I choose?

  • "Existentialism: because you're dead a hell of a lot longer than you're alive." ~ KWSM

  • dude, I don't get your comment. You think existentialism is pointless, yet you seem to embrace it in your last line... or are you being sarcastic?

  • i hope you choose not to exist soon and spare us of your long and boring opinions.

  • @GabeMaher if you don't get it, you won't.

Who gives a shit? That's my existential motto.

  • @GabeMaher Many people have seen this as final proof of the non-existence of God. The argument goes something like this:

God: I refuse to prove that I exist, for proof denies faith and without faith I am nothing.

Man: Ah, but this is a dead give-away, isn't it? It COULDN'T exist without you creating it, therefore proving that you do exist, and therefore, you can't. QED.

God: Oh dear, I hadn't thought of that - and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.

    (With apologies to Douglas Adams)

  • @GabeMaher so you do think in existential terms then... You have basically just shown why existentialism is even a 'concept', and thus, not pointless.

  • is this schizoid paranoia?

  • are those guys at the end from monty python? they look like them...

  • This thing is totally bizarre. That's probably why I like it so much.

  • Follow the yellow brick road, follow follow follow, and I got tired poppies POPPIES POPPIES POPPIES POPPIES!

Rofl, that makes me laugh every time.

  • Well done. I don't believe anyone could truly do this song justice but you've done a brilliant job in your efforts. Also, your additional footage at the end really was a great commentary on the post industrialization of Great Britain's household mousetrap situation was brillig. "Fishy fishy".

"Flopsy died and never called me Mother".

  • Hmm, I thought this was a Mr Bungle song.

  • They covered it.

  • no they covered it

  • this sounds really weird when you're laying in a field of poppies...poppies...poppies....

  • Great job editing the montage jesterrvilyn.

"I'd rather have this bottle in front of me than a frontal labotomy." Great line!!!!!

I wish to heck they could put the reference to the Man of LaMancha back into the music. They had to remove: "To dream thei impossible dream" line for copyright infringement about 30 years ago.

It happens right after T-Bone says: "I was on a quest. Then that line is sang just as it is in the play, and then continues with "Walkin down the road one day, doo dah"

  • My opinion is that you can do what you want, but lay off my existential blues... my blue suede existential blues.

  • :),.....

  • Opinions are like vasopressin... Anybody can produce them with the right stimulation...

  • @jesterevilyn

like how many people here know what vasopressin is and what it actually does for the body...lol but I understood

  • The literal narrative of the video was kind of lame, I would have rather seen something a bit more metaphoric myself. The inclusion of Monty Python at the end was a great touch!

    I love this song!

  • Shall we take the car? And where is that fish any way?

  • DOCTOR DEMENTO LIVES!

  • YOUARETHEBESTPERSONTOEVERGRACEGODSGREENEARTH!!! You got my favorite song, you got good syncing, you put in pictures and videos, not just one, and it all went together perfect! I thought it couldnt get any better, but then you put my favorite clip from "The Meaning of Life!" YOU ROCK!!

  • Thank you, but I am only a vehicle for the truth...

    It is what it is.

Would you like to try the salmon mousse?

  • wats da clip at da end from

  • There is a little spot on the screen that says"ad"-click on that and you'll know all!

  • T-Bone Stankus has been stankin' it up for decades, baby, fuckin' pissa!

  • I love this video almost as much as I love poppies!

  • Classic!

  • Heh, this is genius. Pure. Genius. It could also be tasty, but I've yet to take the time to taste it. But it is indeed awesome.

  • I like it!

  • well, thanks for layin' the law

  • Schopenhauer and Nietzsche would agree. Listen to Baroque.

  • to each his own - your age is apparent

  • You're not Nietzsche? You aren't qualified to write in any types of aphorisms; your cliche's are revolting. Did you take any logic classes or learn anything about philosophy? Age is irrelevant, not only fallaciously, but historically. C.S Pierce read and understood Kant at the age of 13. J.S Mill was fluent in Greek and Latin and studying Aristotle at age 12.

    L2 philosophy or gtfo

  • After much internal debate over whether I should even bother with another reply, I decided to say just one more thing: I don't think even psychological help would benefit you. Now you will get your wish and I will "gtfo". Hmmm.... acronyms.

  • you're looking for clever? judged by your comment, go watch the latest Sum42 video.. or wait.. was it..

  • A better question would be, does anyone know WHY existentialism is?...

  • anyone know what existentialism is? freak you up

  • A rousing game of "find the fish".... Anyone can play just grab a carp and jump on in!....

  • wat is that after the actual song with the fishes and trannys and wat not

  • this was a standard played almost weekly on the dr. demento radio show, cool to hear it again

  • Wasn't he on a quest to dream the impossible dream?

  • He was till the copyright fairies appeared and threatened to sprinkle him with "magical lawsuit dust"...

  • I thought he was on a quest for the truth of life. XD

  • watch the very end. Fish fishy fishy fish who goes where ever i may go! lol XD

  • kiya, yes there is! I remember one of the lines said

Ooooeeeoooo, say where'd you get those shoes?

    Ooooeeeoooo, Existential Blues, Pt 2!

If you google it you can find references, but I haven't found the song itself.

  • this song is creepy

  • There was a part 2 to this song, I wish someone could find that and put it up!

  • there is?

  • lol very good job! love the song and u did a great job putting videos and pics to it!

  • Thank you kindly my dear:) We hope you will enjoy other video tidbits from Son of Man... Just check out the original music and videos from us... • The Song Brilliant. A Montey Python Sketch at the end. Perfection Now I must go down to the field of poppies and drink a bit. Anyone care to join me?

  • Oh we are always there in spirits (wink* wink* Nudge, nudge.... Know whut I mean?.....)

  • I love this song. thanks for posting.

  • What was that thing at the end? I've seen it parodied so many times. Also, have you ever heard Mr. Bungle's version of Existential Blues? I used to have it, but it went missing.

  • *cracks up* And now for something completely different...

You know, I'd say "what the hell?!", but I already know the song, so really, I wasn't expecting anything "normal." What is normal, anyways? 'Tis a very elusive fish, after all.

  • ... And it went where ever I did go...

  • i cant say anymore but WHAT THE FUCK!

  • FUCK THE WHAT?

  • thanks for the help, i will try that as soon as i can.

    =]

  • Good luck!

  • Hmmmm song from the early 80's with completely current topical video, (who can't be topical) I had a friend with tapes of the Dr Demento show from the University Of Northern Iowa, which only proves that living amongst the children of the corn you snort a lot of ethanol this a very old gig but still very cool to see especially with the Monty Python giggle at the end. toodles

  • Ahhh yes, Who CAN't be topical.... But who CAN be clever and dazzlingly brilliant... Thanx for stoppin in and checkin us out... Have a good weekend:)

    (Bonanza theme)

dun, duddle dun, duddle dun, duddle dun, duddle, Vegetable Garden!!!!!
