@Khrulesbbs3 if you read the manga you find out that vanitas wasn't evil to begin with. His emotions spawn the unversed and when he destroyed them the emotions came back to him causing pain. Master X at that point tells him that the only thing that will make it go away is the X blade. He's definitely messed up but it's not like he is an evil entity.

@Khrulesbbs3 I'm not saying that he isn't evil, I'm saying he isn't a "force" of evil. He is an embodiment of Ventris's darkness. While Ventris is timid, Vanitas is aggressive. He's only evil because of his aggressive nature combined with his tortured existence. It isn't because he's evil incarnate, it's all circumstance.

@Khrulesbbs3 Ok lets suppose for a moment that Tetsuya Nomura wanted to throw away all credit as a decent writer. He decides he is going to completely shatter the basic foundations of each of his characters and make them do things that are completely outside of their character template's allowance. By doing this he allows a character who cant become dark to do so and allows Riku who vowed to embrace his darkness to become light. Even if he did this. WHY WOULD HE MAKE HIS PLOT TWIST SO OBVIOUS?!

Sora is, like Ven, some sort of makeshift prince of heart - seeing how the darkness in his heart is sealed within Ven's, and the only darkness he has within him is the piece of the time he became a heartless - and like Nomura did all the time - everything will have something the exact opposite, and since Vanitas is kind of the Sephiroth of the KH series by now, i bet he HAS to come back for fanbase reasons solely.

@Khrulesbbs3 I have a theory. I expect that when Sora and Riku revive Ventus in Dream Drop Distance it will also revive Vanitas, as one can not exist without the other. I fully expect Vanitas to deliver the final blow to Xehanort at the end of Kingdom Hearts 3 and become the new main villain. Nomura said he intends to continue the series after the "Xehanort Saga" is completed (Kh3). The only viable replacement he has shown us at this point is in fact Vanitas. An evil version of Sora.

@Khrulesbbs3 True. The Birth by Sleep novels reveal that he was lonely and anxious. He hated the Unversed so much that he hurt himself to try and get rid of them. Vanitas' story is truly sad and I take so much pity on him.
