I'm from Australia and I think Appalachia looks like such a beautiful place, much better than the concrete landscapes we see on American tv shows. The poverty and opportunity problems are very reminiscent of the isolated Aus outback, where small communities are terribly far away from schools, medical facilities and even telephonic communication. Only differences are the trees and the fact that we don't have regional accents.
It is beautiful. America is such a big place. The sliver of it that gets promoted through our pop culture is a very L.A./ New York version.
I live in North Carolina, of which the Appalachian mountains run through the western portion. I don't live in the mountains, but I grew up visiting them.
And as I've gotten older I have come to really appreciate being from a part of the county that still has a definable regional culture, a part of the United States that hasn't been so "Americanized" yet.
This is why sometimes I think the government putting a population control in effect might be good. What I mean is not allowing people like this to have babies. It sounds bad, but tax payers are going to pay for his eight kids to be raised. Those eight kids will most likely follow their parents example.
It sounds bad because it is bad- China's 'One Child Policy' devastated a generation of people who just wanted to raise normal, loving families. I understand what you're proposing is slightly different to One Child, but it's still the government regulating entire demographics of people reproducing. Education on how poverty cycles work is a far better way of handling this.
Population control will not solve the problems of cyclical poverty or give them access to education or jobs. What the government should to do is not bail out large banks and instead allocate funding towards modernizing the backwards parts of America.

I'm from Australia and I think Appalachia looks like such a beautiful place, much better than the concrete landscapes we see on American tv shows. The poverty and opportunity problems are very reminiscent of the isolated Aus outback, where small communities are terribly far away from schools, medical facilities and even telephonic communication. Only differences are the trees and the fact that we don't have regional accents.

It is beautiful. America is such a big place. The sliver of it that gets promoted through our pop culture is a very L.A./ New York version.
I live in North Carolina, of which the Appalachian mountains run through the western portion. I don't live in the mountains, but I grew up visiting them.
And as I've gotten older I have come to really appreciate being from a part of the county that still has a definable regional culture, a part of the United States that hasn't been so "Americanized" yet.

This is why sometimes I think the government putting a population control in effect might be good. What I mean is not allowing people like this to have babies. It sounds bad, but tax payers are going to pay for his eight kids to be raised. Those eight kids will most likely follow their parents example.

It sounds bad because it is bad- China's 'One Child Policy' devastated a generation of people who just wanted to raise normal, loving families. I understand what you're proposing is slightly different to One Child, but it's still the government regulating entire demographics of people reproducing. Education on how poverty cycles work is a far better way of handling this.

Population control will not solve the problems of cyclical poverty or give them access to education or jobs. What the government should to do is not bail out large banks and instead allocate funding towards modernizing the backwards parts of America.

They take care of each other without a greedy bone in their bodies. They could really teach the rest of this country a thing or two. ya know, I was not going to comment, but now, after reading some of these negative comments left on here, I MUST. These people may not have all of the best, most expensive material things, but who cares... what they do have, love and support and FAMILY is what truely MATTERS!!! I live in PA. My fiance is from central KY. When I was down in KY for a few weeks visiting I did not even want to come back home to Pa. The kindness, hospitality, and appreciative nature of these people is amazing.
