@karan6 - honestly, my degree is a byproduct of what happens when I went college with no specific goal or idea of what I wanted to do. My family has this notion that everyone needs some university, so I simply studied the field where I had the best marks in high-school. There was never really any plan to apply it to real life :P
@landongendur ugh those parents haha imagine all the money you coulda saved I am kinda going through the same but I know I will use my education as a job one day
@karan6 - I talk about it in Blog #11 - I spent about $57K on my schooling when I could've just taken that money and bought a house before the boom happened in Regina :( Alas, I didn't know I wanted to be a landlord until 2nd year university anyway.
60 bucks for going dancing? That's crazy! I went dancing with a friend last September somewhere along Dewdney and it was nowhere near that much.
Congrats on your degree! :) Did you take some photos while you were going to school with your friends or get a yearbook to remember the college years?
do you ever regret going to U of M? Does it really have a good fine art program? I plan to go there next year for its fine art program actually. Although the school seems to have good reputation, almost 99 percent of people I talked to told me not to move to Winnipeg.
@theriverofnoreturn - although I'm not a fan of Winnipeg as a city (colder than Regina and doesn't have much more to offer) the U of M as a university is way better than the U of R in student experience. My favourite school year was 2004-2005 because I got involved with RPM (the on-campus LGBT group), enjoyed my classes, and lived in the awesome Mary Speechly dorm --- where I got the idea of renting real estate ;)
In hindsight my life would be much different if I didn't go to the U of M.
cold and boring? sounds like Saskatoon(that is where I live for now). I am not looking forward to the dorm life cause most dorm system is pretty similar to prison. I think I will find a studio so I can do art work, or just buy a house and rent out real estate ;)
@theriverofnoreturn - dorm life is awesome!! Mary Speechly was my favourite because there were 24 bedrooms rooms on one level with one living room and kitchenette... it practically forces you to make friends with you neighbours ;)
Saskatoon is an improvement... at least you have a wave pool and a good freeway system. Winnipeg is like a big Moose Jaw... without the spa :P
@landongendur This may sound a lil weird and random, but I just had a idea. Since I plan to study at UofM and I don't plan to invent in a house(I've heard rumour about housing prices going down in the next few years) or rent. It might be doable to buy a rv camper and park overnight on campus. Now, I watched one of your videos where your geo metro got vandalized. Do you think it's safe to park/live in the university parking lot overnight? Is it a bad area?
@theriverofnoreturn - The Geo only got vandalized because it was looking abandoned (all damaged from the wreck and never moving from its spot for several weeks).
An RV may be a good option for the summer months, but most RVs have poor insulation and winter living would be pretty miserable in -40* weather :P I'm not sure if there's even RVs out there that wouldn't have the water pipes freeze in moderately cold temperatures.
@theriverofnoreturn - In the end, you'll have a love-hate relationship with Winnipeg. The U of M is great school and you'll meet awesome friends... but you'll be frustrated with living in the city. I drove back home to Regina every 2nd weekend to keep my sanity! :P
TY for making a video refreshing to hear from you. Congradulations on your degree. I too got a piece of paper after all that and you ask yourself what is the point of it all back and fourt studying personality conflicts with Emenin worshipers we do all that jumping through hoops only to convert you into a well dressed begger investing capitol to get a job. Heck there are people that make more than I do all they did was pick up a sign and wear smelly clothes. Will work for food?
@rossperth - Well I wouldn't say 'rich' per say, but then again I'm don't spend lots of money on big ticket items often. What was nice was after a week of being in Mexico, my housemates owed me rent right away. It's pretty cool how a person can make money and not even have to be in the country ;)
so..........you are a "Desperate Housewife" then...!!!(good TV show)....Congrats on your degree.......ever watch "Holmes on Homes"...its filmed in Canada, you could get a p/t job like that...doing house repairs....:)
@deepwoodguy2 - My dad loves watching that show and it's no surprise... both Mike Holmes and my dad are very much perfectionists when it comes to construction. It drives me crazy at times :P
I'm thinking of working for some kind of job in the property management field, but hopefully something indoors because of our unpleasant weather here.
@landongendur Yeah, Mike Sr finds all the nooks and crannys of wrong stuff in houses....Also, he likes to make the show a family affair, bringing his daughter and son to do construction...at least Mike JR is kinda hot...!!!!
@deepwoodguy2 - I had to look up Mike Holmes Jr. I can honestly say I've never seen him in any of the episodes before. You weren't kidding though - he's definitely good looking ;)
@landongendur ...yeah...Mike Jr and his sister are more on the "Holmes Inspection" shows....Mike Sr inspects the homes, then a crew, w/o Sr, comes in and does the work....
Not that I am hating but what are you going to use the Degree for lol?

Glad you had fun. Yeah, diplomas are a bit of an anticlimax considering what they represent.

@dafttool - honestly, It felt so odd when I got the certificate in the mail. Anticlimax is probably the best description for sure! ;)
