  • is it best to get to it from the top or bottom of the engine ? and do i need the special socket or can i use a wrench or channel locks? ??

  • @brandon1997bmx bottom, but get the socket or you'll break things.

  • Where would this be located on a 1996 plymouth voyager 2.4L ?

  • @brandon1997bmx on the side of the engine under the ac compressor, hard to get to

  • Hi Scotty. I have an 82 chevy pick up with a 350 and I installed a oil pressure gauge on it. When I start it, it marks that it has 50 to 60 psi and after I run it for a while and come to a stop it marks 10 to 0 psi. Can it be that I have a bad gauge or is it normal when the oil heats up and the viscosity goes down. And I already replaced the oil pump. And also, can it be that the cam has some thing to do with it. Its a small cam.

  • @XralphiX that's not normal, IF that gauge is working correctly, you have internal engine wear causing that, anythying from a worn pump to worn engine bearings creating too much space thus lowering oil pressure

  • @scottykilmer Thanks Scotty.

  • @XralphiX it could be your oil pressure switch.

  • Scotty, Another great video. Quick question though, I noticed on your oil gauge, the oil level it showed looked around 75%.. mine is right above middle mark. On the dipstick, it looks good, right where it should be in the crosshatch zone. My manual calls for 6qts (07 f150 xlt 4.6 v8) I put in 5, synthetic qts, and it is full as far as the dipstick shows. I am worried that the 6th qt will be too much as this looks good according to the dipstick. your thoughts?

  • @kurtnin42manson also, when I took it to Ford for the free oil change I got, i noticed on the paperwork, it said they only added 5 qts also. I know that I should also go by the manual, but what if it's just too much?

  • @kurtnin42manson just fill it to the top of the mark, regardless of what the book says, all engines retain a certain amount inside when changing

  • great video

  • My neighbor has a 94 chevy k1500 with a 350 just like this truck and when you are at stop lights the oil pressure goes to 0 and it idles cold around 15. is this what needs replaced? Its running strong at 145K .

  • @slowride55 change the oil pressure sending unit and pray that fixes it. If not, probably needs a new oil pump

  • @scottykilmer Ok I can tell this truck is around a 91 or 92 so would the sending unit be in the same spot on a 94? thanks

  • in my toyota 2E engine, replacing a brand new AISIN oil pump makes an additional oil pressure???

  • @playstation2bigs only if the old one was bad.

  • my oil pressure gauge when the engine is running is about btw 40-60 mostly on the 60 side. well when i am driving it sometimes flickers and jumps up above the 60 range and the needle fickers or sometimes flickers as far as it will go up to 80 and then back down to around 60, any idea what would cause it? The check engine light is not on and its a 1992 chevy k1500 with a 305. Thanks for your help

  • Thanks man! Helped a lot!

  • Hey Scotty I have a 93 accord se and oil is leaking from a part to the left of the oil filter, is this my oil pressure sending unit or my oil cooler ? It only leaks when it's running !

  • Scotty, can you tell where the oil sending unit on a 2007 chevy impala. ? i think i found it on the drivers side of the engine but not sure. its giving false readings here and there

  • @undergrd2001 It should be there, put a new sending unit on, they are cheap and break a lot.

  • hey scotty im trying to replace the oil Pressure gauge on my 88 camaro 305 do you know where its located at becaulse i can no find it

  • @TheCamaroTRANSAM left hand rear of the engine, behind the distributor, a Bitch to change, have to remove the dist, great design there. Scotty

  • alright thanks scotty

  • @scottykilmer man i wish you had a viedeo of that

  • @scottykilmer is the 88 camaro the same lay out as this truck

  • My oil light was coming on so I brought a oil pressure sensor thinking it was the same as a oil pressure switch...the oil pressure sensor was eighty one dollars..but thank God i was able to change it for the oil pressure switch that only cost me ten dollars. I bet a lot of people don't know that they are two different things.

  • where is the oil sending unit on a 97 gmc 1500?

  • @tweety33122 generally near the distributor on the back of the engine. Scotty

  • Scotty, do you know where this oil pressure sending unit on a '93 Ford Tbird. My gauge is just now slightly dipping below the "normal" range tripping the light to come on even at driving speed. No bad engine noise thank god!

  • @switch55 should be near the oil filter. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Thank you!

  • Scotty, Do you know where the oil pressure switch or sending unit is on a 1996 ford windstar? i can't find it.

  • @Toobs138 Located in the right rear face of the cylinder block. Very hard to see unless you jack it up and go from the bottom. Scotty

  • scotty im gonna get a digital aftermarket volt gauge and oil pressure gauge what is the normal oil pressure and volt readings?

  • @Matthew55904 all vehicles vary somewhat. 13.9 to 14.2 volts, but oil pressure varies widely, check the specs on yours . Scotty

  • scotty how do i install a Filter Minder?

  • @Matthew55904 I've never used one, so I have no experience with them. Scotty

  • If anybody noes where the oil pressure valve is in a 86 firebird please let me know

  • @RetroFan1992 there are 3 different engines. ON the V6it's next to the oil fllter. Scotty

  • what does it mean when your are driving and you come to a stop then the oil filter comes on but goes away when you get moving

  • @itsbc753 I assume you mean the low oil pressure warning light. I would change the oil and filter, and see if it goes away, if not, have a mechanic run an actual oil pressure test to see if the pressure is actually low or not. Many times the gauge on the car is inaccurate. Scotty

  • Comment removed

  • what if the engine is making a little rattling noise on first start in the morning then goes away but pressure is still low?

  • @bignate678 rattling and low pressure is bad, means the engine is being damaged from low oil pressure. You probably need serious internal engine work, either an oil pump or engine bearing replacement. Scotty

  • hey scotty does a 85 c10 lwb 305 have a oil press sending switch thanks oh im subcsribed keep em coming

  • Hey Scotty, I have a 91 Honda Accord LX. Lately my car has been sounding like a diesel when its only cold at start up. Once the car is completely warmed up, it goes away. Does this have to do anything with the motor oil? I had it changed in the beginning of February but this diesel sound began in the middle of march.

  • @dc007fan Yes, change the oil, put in fully synthetic oil and one quart of lucas oil additive. Then pray the noise goes away, cause otherwise there's serious internal engine wear. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer The oil thats in it is Castrol high mileage. Isnt synthetic oil for newer cars like 2008 or higher? I currently have a little over 182,000 miles. However I do need to get my valves adjusted along with changing the timing belt. The car still drives good though.

  • @dc007fan you can use synthetic oil in any car, if you don't mind the high price. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Hey Scotty, I recently had my oil changed and added lucas oil stabilizer. I noticed when the car is completely warmed up, the diesel noise is quieter and cant really hear it. However, I havent had the chance to do frequent oil changes due to money issues. If I frequently change the oil like I supposed to, every 3000 or 3 months, would the diesel eventually go away for good?

  • @dc007fan from you saying the diesel sound is there when its cold but goes away when its warmed up tells me that your lifters are or are going bad and need to be replaced.

  • @blankpanic I was thinking about that because when I was getting my timing belt replaced, we decided to turn on the car without the valve cover to see which lifters were making noises and oil was still rising even though it did make a bit of a mess. After the car is completely warmed up, the only noise is left is the ticking noise underneath the valve cover.

  • where would a oil pressure sensor be on a 2004 gmc sierra?

  • Hi Scotty, im from Quebec and i love what u doing man, u seem like have so much experience 43 years, ima mechanic apprentice since 2 years. I wanted to know something. My girlfriend car ( cavalier 2.2 2000) have a leaking oil engine inside the belt cover coming, might it be the oil pan seal leaking from there, cuz the seller had changed it be4 i bought this car.

Thx Scotty and keep doing videos as long as u can do :)

  • @alexlove2012 often that's a leaking crankshaft seal. Check that first. Scotty

  • Hey scotty , i drive a 2006 Jaguar Xtype and seem to have some problem with the front suspensions im not sure which one is it but i had it checked by jaguar and they said there was nothing wrong ive even had the lower arm bushes replaced on both sides .. any tip??

  • They make squeaking noises when on humps and feels like theres metal rubbing against metal.

  • @18mylegz Yea, don't be that picky about a Jag, all kinds of things will soon go wrong knowing Jags. But if you're worried, go to a good front end shop and have them check it out. the snobs at the jag dealer often do sloppy work. If you're near houston, go to cotton brothers front end. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer Got em checked and turns out the bushes on the Anti rolling bar were worn out :) will have them fixed soon ! and im more like around Dubai :D thanks anyway !

  • I wanna see scotty fight somebody, it'd be epic

  • @julianbell90 I rarely fight anyone, the ones I did are all now gone. Scotty

  • your smile fix the half problem instantly

  • hi scotty I have a 2000 silverado 2500 with the 6.0L and while driving it just lost oil pressure and died. Would this also be the oil pressure sending unit.

  • @BigCountry8677 replace the sending unit and start it up. If the gauge goes back up, yes. If not, you either have a wiring problem, a dash problem, OR a bad oil pressure problem like a shot pump. Scotty

  • Scotty, i have to ell you.. if i've seen this long ago.. it would of save my car. It was an 84 Pontiac 6000. One day the oil light came on.. Had oil.. but still it was on. I drove it home.. No knocking.. My dad even drove to the show to have work on it done. No knocking. It drove 24 miles with the oil light on. In the end the tech said "You need an oil pump since you have not oil perssure." Well if there was no oil perssure the engine would of sezies up right? In the end, i sold it. :(

  • hi scotty your videos are really awesome they helped me save a lot of money on my old pathfinder and on my integra. i was wondering if low oil or a bad oil pressure switch can cause the fuel pump to not prime? my 92 integra ls sometimes marks the oil light but my engine is fine and i just did an oil change so im not low on oil. fuel pump and relay are both brand new. it will prime most of the time but sometimes u gotta turn the key a couple times till u hear it prime.

  • hey scotty my 99 honda accord has 225k miles the engine cap says to use 5w-30 with all that mile in it should i still use it... welll when i got the car on 215k miles i switch to 10w-30 mobile 1 sentetic... wat you think

  • @Hectino1 Yes, that's fine. Scotty

  • hey scotty my 99 honda accord has 225k miles the engine cap says to use 5w-30 with all that mile in it should i still use it... welll when i got the car on 215k miles i switch to 10w-30 mobile 1 sentetic... wat you think

  • thanx for the comment scotty that looks like i can do it my self, but am having a little trouble locating the oil sending unit... (can you help me locate it)

Its the 1999 honda accord ex v6

    ..

  • ok ... answer me this please, i have a1999 honda accord ex v6 and once in a while the oil light comes on when i pull in my drive way or when i come to a stop at a stop sighn it flickers very rapidly but when i take off it goes off.... can u explain or sudgest that lil problem please.. thank u

  • @Hectino1 Just change the sending unit like in this video, they go out a lot in Hondas like that. Scotty

  • hi scotty i changed my oil pressure sensor on my 97 camaro z28 now it reads 40psi when cold start but it goes down to 10psi to the red line when it gets hot and its in idle it does go up when take off any ideas im clueless lol thanks a lot scotty

  • @metalhands84 Often those gauge systems don't work right, but to check yours, WHEN it's hot, remove the oil sending unit and put a gauge (or pay a mechanic to do that). Then see what the actual pressure is. If it is low, then you have a serious internal oil pressure problem with your engine, like a weak oil pump or worn bearings causing excessive space and making the pressure drop. See it all the time. Scotty

  • hey, excellent video, my 2001 jeep grand cherokee has good oil pressure at idle but every time i step on the gas the oil pressure drops. do you know what could be the problem? thanks.

  • @3gencamaroguy Try replacing the sending unit first, the spring could just be weak inside, but if that's not it, IF the engine does not clank, it's in the wiring or gauge that's bad. If it clanks, stop driving it and fix the engine internally. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer thank you for the reply, i replaced the sending unit and it fixed the problem. Take care and thanks agian.

  • @3gencamaroguy see the above comment, it's the same problem as yours. Scotty

  • Hi Scotty! I got 2001 Audi a4 1.8 T quattrro, the oil pressure is low , its leaking oil , i recently notice its leaking lots of oil, and making some sound from the engine, i stopped driving, I don't know why its leaking lots of oil, its used 5w 40.... I am student and I really need to get around... thx for your time

  • @coolshariq Fix the leak first, that's what lowers oil pressure most. But when you hear engine sounds, that often means damage has already been done, and Audis are money pits to repair when their engines go south. Scotty

  • Scotty, I recently bought a 1996 Ford F150. None of the gauges were working properly. I know that it's not a fuse, and i recently replaced all of the sending units and nothing changed. I then bought a temperature guage that you can connect to the sending unit and then place on your dashboard and that actually worked. I was thinking about doing the same for the oil pressure gauge which will work, but my question is what do i do about my gas gauge? should I check the wiring for the fuel pump?

  • @BIoodThirst55 Personally, I'd just go and get a used dash from a junk yard, as your dash unit obviously has problems. Scotty

  • hi scotty i got a 97 z28 camaro in need of the oil sensor replaced would you kindly tell me where is located tried online i get next to the oil pan and back of the block but no definate answer thanks i also need a transmission control solenoid which i believe its located in the pan? any videos on that thanks a mill

  • @inablisslive08 It should be by the oil filter, screwing in right next to it. Scotty

  • Hi Scotty!

Great information as always. I have a quick question for ya. My oil pan plug is rounded off. What would be a good way to get it out.? I'm a little leery about doing anything too harsh because the pan is aluminum. And thanks for all the great videos you post.

  • @superfootdan Try vice grip pliars and a small torch to heat it up. good Luck, Scotty

  • im rebuilding a ford 400 engine, after i put in the crank, and cam how do i know where to set my distributer?

  • Scotty,

I have a code of P0135 for 1997 Camry V6 3.0L automatic California Emission, built in Japan. Why are the Denso 234-9007 or 234-9009 connectors not the same as mine. My connectors are similar to Bosch 13355. Is Bosch 13355 the correct part for code P0135, bank 1 sensor 1? What do you recommend? Thanks.

  • you think you could do a video on changing a cam for me? :o

  • i dont have a oil gauge or a check gauges light

  • way easier to do on a ford block and way cheaper to replace

  • @fordbroncodave Cheap...Ford..you're right!!

  • GMC suburban has the same exact place as my Chevy blazer for the oil pressure sensor.

  • Hi

    I got a Audi 80 1992 Mod with a 2,3L engine and a Automatic transmission.

The oil light is on and iv checked the error codes with a Wag-com reader. It says that the oil temerature sensor in the automatic transmission is not working. So my question is.

Where do i locate this sensor on the automatic transmission?

    Thanks

  • @BessieMorrison It's inside the transmission inside the valve body. So you have to remove the oil pan to access it. And in typical Audi fashion, you have to buy the whole valve body to replace it. they don't care about you spending money for sure. Scotty

  • @scottykilmer : Got damit....... Well thanks for the info :) I`ll fix it as soon as I get back from this ride ;)

  • Hey Scotty! I follow your videos like people follow american idol, thanks man!

  • Just as a Side note If you have a single wire pressure switch Don't Used Teflon tape it wont ground properly learn that the hard way on my jeep wagoneer

  • @mattmopar440 Good point, but normally those single wire jobs don't have tapered threads, but instead use a washer to seal oil. Scotty

  • @mattmopar440

What I do in those (taper thread with no washer) is use tape on only half the threads.

Some Toyota Camrys have this style.

  • @mattmopar440 i have a question scotty my 99 trans am is making the metal on metal noises if i replace the sensor will it stop making the noises my check gages light is on and the oil pressure is low

  • @TheJabier23 Metal on Metal means your pump or oiling system has failed time for a new engine : (

  • I had that problem with my 97 rav4 last week. The engine was covered in oil because of the oil pressure switch went bad.

  • scotty you rock!

  • My dad and I had this exact problem with his Chevy Silverado. We didn't remove the distributor--just the cap--and it was an ABSOLUTE nightmare to remove and replace that part! My dad now drives a Nissan pickup. Well done, General Motors!

  • Scotty DID it again......

  • well done Scotty ! keep the videos coming, we love to watch them.

  • Thankyou, Scotty. This happened to my son a couple of years ago, and my biggest problem was finding that sending unit on his Ranger. I spent a weekend looking on the 'net, and then I came up dry I gave up and asked him to take it to a mechanic. Dang.

By the way, when you put the distributer in it seems inaccurate to use those coarse painted lines. I'm guessing that the teeth on that distributor cam are coarse too, so when you get it close it slides into exact place. Right?

  • @spelunkerd That's right, the teeth on the gears only allow certain rather wide positions to be pushed back into the hole. Makes it easier. Scotty

  • Nice video. I had a Toyota with a sending unit that went bad. It was about as bad a location as that truck,
