  • Brian,a fucking genius!

  • No, 1963. From the Surfin' USA album, released March 1963, recorded January 1963.

  • @wildsmiley

"Lonely Sea" (an outtake from the Surfin' Safari sessions and the first song Wilson wrote with Gary Usher)

  • @OropherThranduil I think that's an early version though.

  • 1962.

  • Beautiful. One of my favorites. So haunting. While I love their happy songs, its always nice to stop and reflect with this one. Caroline No does that too.

  • One of my favorite songs, hermosa...

  • Hauntingly beautiful. Brian at his very best.

  • Brian Wilson is a genius..the melody, a capella, and swayed haunting lilt is unreal..

  • I didn't even know that this hauntingly beautiful song existed until I saw "Girls On The Beach," on cable. Good god this is soo amazing! Brian Wilson & the Boys never cease to amaze me. I had better run thru my Beach Boy collection, I bet I'll find a few more BB gold nuggets that I must of overlooked!

  • 1962

  • this is what I grew up listening to, a steady diet of my parents' Beach Boys vinyl...and I wasn't born until '74.

  • amazing!!!!

  • First time listening to this one...wow...

  • paddyswink just has no class or respect for anything or anyone. if you don't like the song then leave the page or aren't you intelligent enough to figure that one out?

  • paddyswink Too bad about your troubled childhood, and that trash can your dad put you in whenever he caught you eating butterflys.

  • paddyswink. How could you compare this sound to a rat stuck in a pig's throat? Please go sailing in shark infested waters and take a long walk off a short plank.

  • Thanks.

  • It's a shame the spoken segment hasn't really aged well... the rest of the song is breathtakingly beautiful though.

  • jesus, i finally came to listen trough the complete let it be sessions, and actually this song is played, mostly instrumentally on a guitar, i think it's paul, but the fun screaming in the background souns like john, it's cool to listen to, never heard it before, just like their short runtrough the stones lady jane.

paul really must like this song.

  • Beautiful song by the beautiful genius Brian Wilson...timeless xxx

  • nice! well done...My favorite Beach Boys song (and that is a tough choice)..Good Vibrations, Caroline No, and Dont Talk (Put your Head on my Shoulders are my other favorites....I like the use of windows movie maker to toss in some effects to one of the coolest album covers out there..

  • I've been a big fan of theirs ever since i was a young girl. I've been to several of their concerts and enjoyed everyone of them. This song has always been my very special favorite.

    WendyKS93

  • @RandLamberth:> Hey thanks! BTW, Eric Matthews(another one of my favorites of all time!) does a cover of this song. Can probably get it on itunes!

  • if you close your eyes, you can feel the quiet waves on a silent night.

Thanks for those great songs, Brian Wilson.

  • @paddyswank i hope you get a rat stuck up your urethra

  • Who's singing this?

  • @popnutty Brian Wilson, Who else? Incredible vocals and arrangement!

  • @popnutty Brian Wilson

  • SOL INVICTUS

  • this song annihlates

i don't know if that was the proper word,

    because it was

  • If you can't hear the sound of the ocean in Brian's voice you're deaf.

  • although brian and the beach boys sang some of the prettiest songs. this one is one of my favorites. too bad it never received much attention.

  • @HARVEYKLEIN1

it's so good it's the only BB song any beatle ever did during the let it be session ( paul played the melody on an acoustic and did worldess singing)

  • What a wonderfulb song !

  • Best vocals ever! Hauntingly beautiful!

  • Was there ever a more hauntingly lonely voice than Brian's? I love the early Beach Boys music.

  • THANKS !! another great

  • Reminds me of Radiohead.

  • xDDD

Radiohead reminds you of the Beahc Boys, just like the concept for paranoid Android is lifted from the Beatles Happiness is a warm Gun.

  • this could be the first sign of what will await us in the future, even before in my room, such a beautiful ballad.

  • Brian sings this on the beach by a fire in that awful movie "Girls On the Beach". Great song; signs of great, great, great things to come for decades.

    Love you Brian

    John Hunter Phillips

"If We Ever Need A Super Man"

  • that was an awful movie, but something beautiful did come out of it... this is my fav beach boy song. susie (:

  • I'd watch it just to hear this song. I thought I saw every bad beach movie in the 60's, but somehow I missed this one.

  • April 16 1962

    THE BEACH BOYS

    Conduct their first recording session

    At Western Recorders ( Studio # 3 )

6000 Sunset Blvd In Hollywood, California

    Three Hit Singles

    Surfin' Safari Lonely Sea 409

Were the result of those efforts

  • This is a great song to listen to while walking near the beach on a rainy day.

  • @BAhern63 Whenever I drive to the beach, two songs always pop into my head: Lonely Sea and Keep an Eye on Summer. Once I drove from Big Sur to Cambria with my girlfriend, and kept playing these over and over. Eventually she got past the frustration and found it hilarious. I found it relaxing and making the most out of saying goodbye to the beautiful ocean on my way home.

  • bro, the song--mixed with the visual...i'm trippin bro

  • I'm on acid as we speak.

  • i'm still high

  • How about now, because if it lasted seven months you really should share.

  • haha, lucky bastard.. i dont trust the punks around here to not give me rat poison

  • I just peaked.

  • Listen to how Brian uses the tibre in his and Carl's voices to produce a counter harmony and all this before he was 21....

  • Probably one of the first collaborations with Gary Usher. Simple arrangement, but haunting.

  • If yearning has a sound - this is it! So hauntingly lovely.

  • thanks julian

    great song

    takes me back 40+ years

  • Cosmic, divine, amazing.

  • They performed this song in a scene in the 1964-65 beach film THE GIRLS ON THE BEACH. They also wrote and performed the the title song.

  • Brian's beautiful voice in 1963 on the Surfin USA lp. Still have the album in my collections:)

  • wow

  • I never heard this song before. Its kinda like In My Room. Nice song but it kinda wanders a little bit. A purcurser of what was to come.

  • I grew up in the 50s & 60s. The Beach Boys were my favorite group and the "Lonely Sea" was and is my favorite song they did.

  • Yes the Beach Boys had a lot of nice songs on their albums that were not hits in the early years.

  • Beach Boys in my bloodstream but never heard this one....it's like discovering the magic of their music all over again. Brian, I hope you're reading this so I can say

    THANK YOU.

  • I think Pet Sounds gets too much focus. If you look at all their albums right back to when they started, they're all fantastic, every one of them, and under-rated because of 'the legend of Pet Sounds,' (which is not to say I don't like Pet Sounds).

  • Pet Sounds is their best

  • don't be daft,way before Pet Sounds,this was 1962!

  • @xwsftassell You are so right! Pet Sounds was brilliant but all the albums prior to it were treasures! Right from the very first album they were all awesome but they're all overshadowed by the Pet Sounds legend. This happens to be one of my all time favorites which was years before Pet Sounds. Just purely awesome!

  • @xwsftassell brian's idea

  • @xwsftassell CORRECT, Pet Sounds is as overated as the Orlando's case against Casey Anthony
