I remember watching these when I was a kid, just being bowled over by the quality of every episode. Compared to the stuff on American TV, it was no contest.
@kristell9: That when they where under the radar and they could just be as creative as there imagination could take them, and I am sure they where all enjoying themselves greatly doing it.
haha the Palin is trying to do a 60s American accent, with all the twangs and exaggerated vowels, becuz that's all he's ever heard Americans do when this sketch was made...lol. Gad - is that how Europeans see the USA? Power-mad, arrogant prodigal children of war...? :(
@kristell9 Yes, I love that scene, but by "they" I meant Monty Python, not the British. . . . You know that the Young Ones isn't MP, right? It's just heavily influenced by MP, like all British humor.
The question is why in the world isn't more American comedy influenced by Monty Python?
@greg5566 It is. Look closely at SNL, Mad TV and other Sketch Shows. Lots of their sketches are nothing but changes in location and character of a MP premise. MAD TV did a blatant rip of of 'Johann Gambolputty de von Ausfern -schplenden -schlitter -crasscrenbon -fried -digger -dingle -dangle -dongle -ETC. Will Sasso and Debra Wilson did something with names that was almost identical.
@MillBelater It's funny that you mention that one MadTV episode, because when I saw it I too thought this is just like Johann Gambolputty. But that's a good example of why you are wrong: the MP Gambolputty sketch is in the middle of the long election sketch, it's just ONE joke inside an amazing sketch. On MadTV it's the entire sketch. And this is the SNL formula: think of one joke, then do it over and over for 10 minutes. The opposite of MP.
The Pythons spared no one including themselves when they made fun of someone. Bishops, bag ladies, military, politicians, you name it. LOL Hilarious sketch.
Benny Hill was considered funnier than Monty Python by a UHF station (WLVI TV Channel 56 in Cambridge, Ma) running both! I agree! And combine "exodus" and "international" and ".org".
IMHO this clip has the best part of the sketch. I thought the Teddy Salad stuff was dumb and too drawn out. They should've went with more of Neutron trying to fit into domestic life, and the angry husband. "Beady little eyes like pigs!" The US military bit is spot on, and unfortunately shows what the rest of the world thinks of us. :/
Yes the Teddy Salad /Govt Ballet got a bit off message the MI6 Eskimos where a good touch. Yes you could substitute Mr Neutron with Osama Bin Laden to a certain extent.

Fishy, fishy I ooo...Teddy Salad took his head and body off to fit into his costume...Let's give him some credit.
I actually did a search for 'Teddy Salad' to find this, then thought of Mr. Neutron (absolutely the most powerful man in the universe, really).
Yes, this and the European Bicycle Tour are in the my all-time faves! Bizarre full episodes
