However, the California Penal Code (I live in CA) states that Police Officer and Emergency personnel are excempt from the rules of the road when authorized by their department. That means you can run a red a light as long as your department authorized you to and as long as you can clear the intersection. Apart from the fact Police vehicles and other emergency vehicles are required to have a running engine when on duty, it is also exrtremely cold weather as the video show's. If they were to turn off the engine and later respond to a call out where they need to respond at speed, they would seriously damage the engine by turning it on and running at a higher power range straight away. You made an idiot of yourself in this vid and completely wasted your time.

@TheSremmos I don't know about Canadian law, but in California Police Officers are allowed to "break the law", the simple fact is, you really can't catch criminals if you have to obey all laws, it's a perk of the job. Parking on the red curb, speeding, idleling the car so on and so forth. All that lead by example does happen, but not when it compromises officer safety. We can argue that idleling a car in Canada is officer safety, you gotta run that heater!

If a police officer can't do his job without committing a crime then he should not be doing that job. You make these claims but I have a lot of law enforcement family so I know it's not "a perk" to be "above the law." However, the California Penal Code (I live in CA) states that Police Officer and Emergency personnel are excempt from the rules of the road when authorized by their department. That means you can run a red a light as long as your department authorized you to and as long as you can clear the intersection. And running a red light is against the law, therefore Officer and emergency personnel are allowed to break the law.

If your family members are in law enforcement, maybe you should talk to them, asked them if they have ever responded somewhere "code 3" and if they observed all laws. If they did observe all laws in that code 3 run, they are useless as Peace Officers!!!!!!!!! Simple fact!

Yes the police can speed and such when in hot pursuit or when directed to by their department, this isn't the same as a police officer committing crimes while off duty like the Riverside Sheriff who was drunk and hit and run another motorist, and then his crime was covered up by his deputies and he was given a ride home.
Had it been a regular citizen then what? I understand breaking road laws in the line of duty, but not just for fun/convenience.

And in most cases they are not, you are pointing out a bunch of stupid deputies that decided to cover up for one of their own. Stuff like that comes back to bite you and in this case it did.

Just some FYI... Emergency vehicles stay idled for a purpose. I worked EMS for awhile and vehicles are often left idle and not turned off in cold weather.
