  • awesome video

  • Comment removed

  • if you listen closely toward the end you can hear the dampare moving

  • The Russians are coming!!!

  • @Surgethearcticfox 2T22 do NOT have solenoids or dampeners while the 3T22 does. the First 2 stands for 2 phase, which is alert, and attack. While 3T22 has dampeners and solenoids, it is a three phase for the first 3. Alert, Attack, And The infamous Hi|Lo. I'm not sure why they don't add the other signals such as pulsed or pulsed wail, ETC. Because the 3T22 Is capable of every signal

  • is it me or is the sound changing every 1 second

  • 0:07

  • Where is this?

  • Did this used to be roof mounted? It looks like it has a roof mount setup.

  • @Ouranos94

No. It has been on a pole since it was installed in the mid-60's.

  • What is the difference between the 2t22 and 3t22

  • @Surgethearcticfox

I don't know. Maybe it's the year made or the optional features. You'll have to ask a siren expert.

  • @deeredad the difference between a 2t22 and a 3t22 is that a 3t22 can do hi low as a 2t22 cannot a 3t22 has selinoids and a 2t22 dont look at the name.....3t means 3 Tone and 22 means 22 horns...22 ports so its 3T22 and 2 Tone 22 2T22 its actually simple lol

  • @deeredad The 3t22 Can do 3 signals: Alert, (a steady tone), attack(A rising/falling tone), and Hi lo, which it is doing in this video. The 3t22 has solenoids that allow this to happen. The 2t22 can only do alert and attack.

  • @deeredad 2t22 dosen't have soloniods so the 2t22 cant do hi-lo but 3t22 does have soloniods

  • @deeredad The only difference is that the 2T22 doesn't have solenoids and the 3T22 does. This means that the 2T22 can't do hi-lo, and the 3T22 can, as seen in this video.

• @Surgethearcticfox Other than that they look the same, the 3t22 is capable of alternate steady and alternate wail. I hope this answers your question ;)

  • @Surgethearcticfox The 3T22 featured the damper system and solenoids in order to emit the Hi-low signal along with alert and attack, the 2T22 could only emit alert and attack.

  • @Surgethearcticfox the difference between the federal 2t22 and the 3t22 is that the 3t22 can do hi lo mode.

  • @Surgethearcticfox 3t22 uses 3-phase power and can produce hi-low, 2t22 uses 2-phase and can not produce hi-low

  • @Surgethearcticfox The difference in the signals of the 2T22 and 3T22 are 2T22 Alert and Attack 3T22 Alert, Attack, Hi-Lo, Hi-Lo Alert, Hi-Lo Attack.

  • @Surgethearcticfox The 3t22 is capable of alternate steady and wail (but doesn't alternate durring wind down/wind up

  • @Surgethearcticfox The 3t22 is capible of alternate steady and alternate wail.

  • @Surgethearcticfox A 2t22 don't have solenoids to do a hi lo tone like this it sounds the same but a 3t22 does and they get stuck sometimes..

  • When was that taped?

  • @yoyobass100

I think around october of 2006

  • Ones going off RIGHT NOW! HOW IRONIC!

  • Lower "valve" (damper) is remaining open. Maybe asimple as no power getting to it.

Normally open, power closes the damper.

  • This one sounds like its ready to calf out at any moment...... i wouldnt want a city entrusting its safety to this thing.....

    Time for an upgrade!

  • Its sounded like that for years, reminds me of grandmas :)

  • I'll past your comment on the the fire department. Maybe they can take a look at it the next time they service it.

  • @deeredad That's because the lower solenoid is broken. >.>

  • Is the lower damper stuck or the solenoid for it is broken?

  • a 2t22 can only do attack and alert, the 3t22 can do high low attack and alert and sometimes wail or high low wail

  • @iwnproductions dont forget with the 2t22 can also do fast wail

  • @acahurricane1275 manually yes but timer ran no it cannot

  • why dose this video have so many views and comments its just a bunch of bycial horns glued together... old people these days =.=

  • @RawrinVideos

Why do some people take bath salts?...

  • thats hi lo on crack

  • Old sound but cool

  • sounds like the low solenoid is broken

  • kinda mezmorizing if you listen to it long enough.

  • At first the dampers are working fine, but suddenly the bottom one stops .

  • 超マニアww

  • The birds are like " WHAT THE HAYL IS THAT NOISE?! GET THE NEST OUT OF THAT THING!"

  • that's a high & low tone

  • After 1:18 if you turn up the volume, you can hear a tapping noise, like this: da *tap* da *tap*

  • Good job to whoever rebuilt it. :))

  • I think the sound might have just been a bad tape.

  • haha the birds were like oh shit

  • Faison huh? I'll have to drive down there to listen to a Noon test. Faison is halfway between Wilmington & Raleigh.

  • i havent seen this siren the past few times ive been through faison. where is it?

  • Nope, only the 3T22 has hi lo signal. The 3T22 was a replacement made sometime in the 1960s. Only difference is that the 3T22 does hi lo and the 2T22 doesn't

  • Nope, only the 3T22 has hi lo signal. The 3T22 was a replacement made sometime in the 1960s. Only difference is that the 3T22 does hi lo and the 2T22 doesn't

  • what year is this and is this a film camara

  • whats tht sound tht sounds like DA DA DA DA during the siren windup and during the steady signal

  • @morshu100 Its HI-LO, but one of the dampers may be malfunctioning.

  • @morshu100 hi lo

  • the windown sounds awesome!

  • Nope. This is the pulsed signal, not the hi-lo.

And it sounds like the chopper could use some new brushes.

If there are red 3T22's, were there ever any red Thunderbolts?

  • Yes, Bumblebee cardnal [Red/Black]

  • well yes but that color was never marketed ( put up to use) but there were bumblebee only colors marketed before all yellow

  • I've never heard of a red t-bolt before.

    -_-

  • the low tone damper is stuck, it isnt the pulse signal, and it's a very old video, so the motor is probably very healthy.

  • @ twotailedavenger: Judging by the 'frame-line' at the bottom of the screen, this is a recording from an analog camera, but from a bad tape.

  • @twotailedavenger There were so called ladybug Thunderbolts that were red and black striped. Ian (murrfarms) has one. But this is in Hi-Lo (AKA Fire).

  • @twotailedavenger

    There both the same thing.

  • no its the hi low

  • actually that is the hi low the old time recording makes it seem different and no there were never any red thunderbolts but the first thunderbolt was colored red and black striped however it was never marketed at that color the marketed ones after that were yellow and black

  • Are ya sure you're not just hearing the tone-pulsing effect there?

  • its the video. oold video.

  • never saw a red 3t22 before but now i have

  • l.o.l. @ 0:06 those birds must have shit themselves when that went off :P

  • love the wind down

  • loved the pullsing

  • cool

  • Oh it's red, how awesome.

  • Are they going to fix the upper damper? Seems like it's frozen open.

  • it sounds like the bottom damper is the one that is frozen, since the low note is constant.

  • its the bottom damperner thats stuck not the top one.

  • I like how the birds flew off just seconds before the siren went off..like they knew it was coming.

  • well, we see the birds flying away before we hear the siren, because sound travels slower than light.

  • They may have also felt the motor jerk when it was first turned on, but before it got fast enough to produce noise.

  • dont you mean the chopper, the chopper is what spins, not the motor.

  • its odd that its painted red in this video

  • why was the flag at half

  • why are flags usually at half mast?

  • it wasnt it looks that way, but if u look close the flag is on a white pole, and all the way up that pole

  • Sounds like the low tone damper is stuck.

  • almost like it is stuck closed, it does not contrast with the high note as much as it should

  • damn i can't help watching this 3T22 siren all the time!

  • i live about ten miles from the siren and hear it every day!

  • This siren sounds like the lower damper is left open. Therefore its doing a sound like this DA DA DA DA DA DA instead of DO DA DO DA DO DA DO DA DO DA. Other then that very good vid. See if you can to this siren again and get the whole wind down.

  • Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to the firemen. The sound might also be little distorted because I was in a vacant lot between two buildings, so you may be hearing some echo. Also my video camera sound pickup capablities may have been a little overwhelmed by the extreme volume of the siren. Maybe I try it again sometime with a better camera and sound system.

  • Please film this siren again. Its very intresting. I mean this paticular one.

  • @mikey125612 Exactly, the lower damper is stuck open so it makes a sound like

    WEEH WEEH WEEH WEEH

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO instead of

    WEE-WOO-WEE-WOO-WEE-WOO-WEE-WOO

  • lol the birds flew away

  • i love these duo-tone sirens! It sounds cooler when you are morew away from it.

  • What camra to you have ive benn looking 4 somthing like that

  • JVC VHS-C

    GR-AXM18U

    Edited with Pinnacle studio

  • what camera are you using?

  • try to find a black 3T22 next :)

  • cool siren.

  • love this tone

  • It sounds like the bottom solenoid damper is stuck in the open position, making it sound "Pulsed", instead of the normal "Hi-lo".

  • could just be how it sounds on this old video

  • Comment removed

  • sounds more like a 2t22

  • 2t22s and 3t22s are exactly the same except the 3t22 can do attack, alert and hi-lo, while the 2t22 can only do attack or alert.

  • it also depends how much power it gets.

  • 2t22's have a more old foamier sound.

  • how does it do the high low tone

  • check out my federal signal 2t22 siren video that i recently posted on youtube. it's called: "Sick 2t22 siren (featured on a tornado documentry)"

  • he's backing up!!

  • My God! Now there's some memories there! The next town over has one of those sirens and they still use it! Sounds just like Ft. Edward. Also sounds a little like the one in Ft. Johnson which was the department I belonged to. Do you think you could burn me a copy of this because I could use it for my structure fire scene on the model train layout at my model train club.:)

  • is this siren for the volunteer fire dept. ?!

  • yes

  • u can tell it starts because the birds fly b4 u actully hear it

  • In the wind down after the high notes why does it make clicking sounds like HI click HI click Hi click HI click

  • The clicking sound is the air flappers. The flappers can be set to continue to flap during the wind down so that the hi-lo sound will continue during the wind down. The flapper cut-off time delay is adjustable to suit the user.

  • One of the dampers is stuck making it click. It sounds more of a pulse signal.

  • actually i think the cone shaped thing is the air intake according to what i know and i didn`t know these sirens could do hi-lo i thought only whelens could do it

  • actually the roofing cone thing on the top is the air intake, according to my resources at least

  • whats the point of the little roofing on top

  • is this the siren's original color or has it been repainted?

  • Repainted red. It was yellow. I don't know why they decided to paint it red.

  • maybe because they decided it looks sharper, which it does.

  • dalmatian spots would look pretty cool.....

  • NO WAY! I THOUGHT IT WAS BOUGHT THAT COLOR!

they might of got sick of yellow.

  • sounds like a school bus backing up

  • Birds:we gotta go siren!!

    siren:haha fuckers you better run!!

  • a red one?? wow! ours is painted a sickly yellow color. lol but then again...it's not newly installed.

  • The Yellow is CD Yellow (Civil Defense)

  • Everytime I hear these do Hi-Lo, it makes me rock back and forth in my chair.

  • I love the wind down. It sounds pretty cool.

  • yeah

  • Birds: We gotta get outta here! The siren is gonna go off!

  • MY siren sounds simular in Williamstown.

  • Why did hi-lo mode stop at 1:23?

  • the timing for the solenoids was just a little bit off in the AF timer.

  • is it suppose to keep going hi low until it stopped?

  • Yes. It's a normal function of the 2T22 and 3T22 sirens.

  • The damper control (sometimes called flappers) has an adjustable time delay that is independent of the siren motor timer. The damper control timer can be set to continue oscillations after the siren motor is de-energized, and is winding down. This department has their damper control timer set to stop oscillations about half way during the coast down. It could be set to stop at any point during the wind down. It's a matter of preference.

  • @gnutelliums whats the difference be tween the 2t22 and the 3t22?

  • @Luckyb41103 3t22 has solenoids, 2t22 doesn't

  • Is one of the dampers stuck or is it doing a pulse signal?

  • yea, it could be newly rebuilt, but they probably wired the low tone damper shut because it had problems

  • nothing like a Weekend siren going off on a sunny day while shopping, with your friends, with your girlfriend, or at the fire house.

  • in my town we have i think a couple of these

  • LOL! The birds at 0:07!

  • The birds at 0:07 were like "the heck with that". LOL.

  • good high and low video!

  • That wind down... oh my god... XD

It sounds like the siren just lost a boner.

  • is it me or does it sound very fast?

    the other 3T I heard was Hi..lo..HI..lol

this one is HI LO HI LO HI LO HI LO theres not that brief pause...

ps.. its ive never seen a Civil Defense siren painted red.. wow..... Interesting.

  • now that siren sounds great!! :)

  • Sounds like the high tone damper is stuck.

  • you mean the lo tone damper.....

  • Yes!

  • keep the classic sirens alive

  • Great video. It's enough to make any firefighter want to get ready for action.

  • My city has one of those. In 1998, it sounded in Attack Mode. Shit, I wish I had gotten a video of it! There was a tornado that year.

  • Newly rebuilt? The low side intake isn't working.

  • The sound is late.

  • Nice video.
