How much did Landis get paid for this? "Publicity guy?" Even if he was not going to watch the film again, he might at least have prepared for his talk.
The first time I saw this film; Burt Lancaster was so creepy and gross that I'd was turned off to seeing any of his other roles for a very long time.
Just saw this film today again for the first time in years...and Landis was just spot on with my thoughts. There's just some seething lines of dialogue - "We're all kids here". I don't think I've seen a film just capture even the SMELL of NYC like this one. The city really breathes the rotten apple through the screen -u'll need a shower. Brilliant
(I've owned this DVD for years, never appreciated as much. Seeing it again after some years - Landis is absolutely right - this film is one of the great American films. The composition, the flow, the dialogue, the cinematography.... top notch...)
