  • What's the name of that song? Was he improvising?

  • My dad went to middle school and high school with this guy! xD

  • Carbon Fiber is EXPENSIVE is what NO ONE seems to be able to spit out here. I just went to XOX's website. They are an English company and they charge 2449 Euro. for it. That converts to OVER $3,500. And quite frankly. This does not sound like a $3,500+ instrument!!! PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!! Right now on Musiciansfriend you can get a Limited GIBSON USA Les Paul for just over $2,000 and that is WITH a Bigsby!!! They have worked for YEARS! If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT!!!!!

  • @drummin65turbo : try it before you judge it, you cant tell anything about ist sound or playability from a handycam video shot at a tradeshow.

the XOX Handle is all top of the line components and is incredible.

And if it aint broke dont fix it is the mentality which breeds a single brand for all, but most of us like a choice and variety. I bet you wouldnt want to live in a world where you didnt have a choice of what you could buy because what they were offering was good enough.

  • @drummin65turbo "does not sound like a $3500+ instrument' = you just need to buy better speakers

  • this guy looks like my old english teacher.... but with a guitar

  • i want a carbon fiber guitar -__-

  • Awesome and a very very nice and catchy tune!

  • but his playing kicks ssssssssss!

  • i believe he needs longer hair

  • his sweeping is so clean christ

  • has this guy ever kissed a girl????

  • @ryan25n dont know but bet his guitar playing pulls a few strings if you know what i mean ;)

  • @ryan25n Has he ever lived in his parents basement?

  • @namzop This guy creeps me out something really odd about him what do yer think?

  • @ryan25n looks like he belongs in that nes game maniac mansion .

  • @bumbandito1 haha yeah right on i man

  • @ryan25n with skills like that i imagine so

  • More flags, more fun!

  • ED TO SHRED RULES ALL CREATURES BIG AND SMALL!!!!

  • Fuckin love this man.

  • What kind of guitar is this, and where can I find it's webpage?

  • @b1cc2

its called the Handle and made by

    XOX Audio Tools,

do a search and youll find it all youtube, myspace, web.....

  • those inlays are fucking sick!

  • AMAZING

  • He just demoing that guitar, cause i thought he used ibanez

  • @RevisedTV I used to play one of those other guitars... but I love my Handle! 24 frets worth of warm carbon fiber tone! These are great guitars. I think everyone should have at least 2! :)

    Rock on,

    ED

  • @BangYourEd what kind of pickups do they have? im lookin for somethiing with high output

  • Comment removed

  • this dude belongs in dethklok. period. brendon small, call this guy. for shit's sakes man.

  • fucking beautiful and emotional playing.....damn all the other shredders in the Dean Contest played what has already been done imo.

  • great melodies

  • he plays video game music o_o all sweeps

  • how are you supposed to have a good tone if your body is non existint

  • @bubblyjesus

carbon fiber has a wider acoustical range than wood, and to achieve sustain with wood you need mass to compensate for its softness, carbon fiber is so stiff you have instant sustain, just add vibrations! its hollow body and neck give an amazing resonance chamber for warm rich tones, you cant beat it!

  • @peterxxxsol right on, good explanation peterxxxsol, I was wondering the same thing as bubblyjesus so thanks for droppin some knowledge

cool vid too, Ed shredds heads

  • @peterxxxsol

It also probably has some kind of special pickups to compensate the lack of wood (if there is any due to the cf)

  • @gtiturbo18litre it has DiMarzio PAF pros and a simple passive electronic circuit.

there is no need to compensate for lack of wood since carbon fiber has a wider tonal range, you just need a nice true pick up to allow you to hear the full tones produced.

you guys have to get over your preconceived notions and learn more, find out there are new materials and methods out there which can improve the way we do things, it happens in every field even for guitars

  • @peterxxxsol how much do one of those cost?

  • @gtiturbo18litre Yeah im going with peterxxxsol on this. Van Halen used a carbon fiber Steinberger on the 5150 album. Look it up. The only reason carbon fiber didnt catch on is because big companies like Fender and Gibson thought that carbon fiber would ultimately replace wooden guitars so they but out all of the companies making carbon fiber guitars. It weighs a fraction of what wood does and you can put sick tremolo systems to instantly change keys that you can never do with wood.

  • cool guitar

  • what kind of amp is he using

  • what make is that guitar?

    im loving the inlays

  • the company is XOX Audio Tools!

the guitar is called the Handle

  • sweet guitar

  • cool melodys

  • fuckin woow...great guitar, great hability...

  • These guitars have excellent sustain. You can feel it resonate through your body where you're touching the guitar. Great guitars!

  • He is so good live :|

  • guitar prolly doesnt soun / sustain very well bc its not solid

  • on the exact contrary,

it sustains forever, the carbon fiber is stiffer than wood and has a wider acoustical range, these guitars play like a dream!

    try one!

  • @peterxxxsol ahhh makes sense... thought it was wood.. thanks

  • @peterxxxsol What's the price range on these guitars?

  • @Rakknar $3500 and up depending on model.

    see website or myspace

  • that is one cool inlay on the fret board, love this song, i'd give a lot to be able to play like that

  • I love the inlays on his guitar.

  • Crazy fucking guitar, where do the electronics go? ._.

  • They're in the parts of the guitar that are still solid.

  • may not be a sick shredder but hes really good with melodies and harmonics and thats awesome ^_^

  • Punisher541: I agree. Melody and sense of music is so much more important than speed (rusty cooley :(,), however you gotta love when they have both!

  • yeah true true, shreeding aint always about speed but about technique to make the music flow

  • wow i wish i can play someday like that ^_^

  • it just sounds so clean........ it's pretty crazy actually.

  • very progressive

  • I can see why he won the shredder search! He has actual sounds to his playing, all the other entries are pure shred, 100%, and basically had no actual sound to them, just a billion random notes that didnt even sound good nor did they make sense...

    YOU ROCK ED!

  • And that's great that you feel the need to post that rather nescient comment on every video of 'Ed the Shredder'.

  • @sameer1000cp well but it was Dean SHRED Contest.

i think Murisv should have won. he is SICK

  • @sameer1000cp well... its called a shred contest, but yea, alot of meaningless solos with no direction on that contest.

  • @sameer1000cp SHRED contest .....maybe thats why other people did SHRED.....just a thought

  • What scales does he use to make solos like this?

  • not bad

  • Thats a rad guitar

  • what the hell did you sey there? your grammar is miserable. and ED, pre-DSS wasn't in any way connected to a guitar company. he had/has a Jackson ( I believe) that was custom painted by a friend.

  • It is an Ibanez RG770 that he has had/used for about 16 years.

Anyways, I agree with you that he was never funded by a guitar company before the Dean Shredder Search.

  • What an odd looking guitar...

I hope that Ed ends up making it big. I really love his solos.

  • that guitar is fucking kickass dude

  • True, but to me it just looks odd.

  • yeah, and that is why it is beast. I really like the design on the frets.

  • You can see him play it live in Pontiac Michigan next weekend... aug 15 & 16! Do a search for "UFO Detroit edtoshred"

  • This guy rocks!

  • face it buckethead and the whole new gnr(accept axl)suck!

  • Did you drop out of school when you were 12 or something? Cause I can't understand your screwed up comment.

  • OH....MY....GOD. That, was like totally amazing!!!

  • why arent there any vids of him playing the gold dean razorback he won?

  • where is he famous from?

just from the internet or somethin else

  • He won the Dean Guitar Shredder Search :)

  • he won the DEAN SHREDDER SEARCH CONTESTE :D !

  • holy guitar batman!!

  • Buckethead is better...

  • in what way?

  • many

  • You're not a very good or mature Buckethead fan if you're going around comparing guitarists and slandering them to Buckethead.

  • WHO THE FUCK CARES

  • ha ha ha, that's halarious. Ed has more musical talent in his baby finger than Buckethead has in his whole body.

  • I am a fan of Ed. But Im gonna strongly dissagree with your comment. Buckethead is the man and is unknowingly one the greatest. So lets not jump to conclusions

  • why?

  • idk why this comment was thumbed down because if you know theory or are even decent at guitar you know for a FACT that buckethead is not even very technical in comparison to any real technical guitar player like Ed, it has nothing to do with like or dislike.

  • exactly. people always tell me "oh, if you listen to this buckethead song, you will be blown away." then I go and listen to it and I never understand why people think he's so good. I just haven't heard anything from buckethead that has impressed me the way Ed did.

  • I 2nd that!

  • Alton Brown from the food network's a beast on guitar. :]

  • he holds the pick very oddly

  • It's easier to play with precision when holding the pick like that. At least for most people.

  • damn lol i wish i was that good

  • thats the best nerd i have ever meet

  • sweep picking is amazing

  • Please someone, i need the tabs to the intro, thanks -Andy

  • i wonder if mike sweeney got anything

  • that inlay pattern is kickass

  • wow is that guitar see thru thats sweet

  • its not see thru, there is just no body there

  • oh now i see it thats fuckin awesome

  • i like his bow tie

  • Ed, it was great meeting you and jamming at the same XOX booth at Namm. Great arpeggios!!

Crystal Fawn of Featured On Fridays

  • =O quick! someone get him a contract!

  • The sweeps in his song were amazingly accurate....Even when he backtracked. 5 stars.

  • very good playing, nice style, awesome guitar!

  • I totally agree this man is clearly great, but overrated.

There are many others who are being overlooked.

  • we all know there are tons of good shredders but somebody's gotta win man

  • this guy is a fucking G.

  • u rock Ed! ............zimmyjim

  • Sounds great

  • "Please don't argue..."

With a statement like that I can't help but argue the point. The arpeggios were great. But, the coolness in this peice comes in the nuance. It doesn't have to be 200 notes per minute to kick ass. I happen to think it had great texture and feeling! ...that's just my opinion~!

  • this and that guitar are freaking AWESOME

  • Glad I could help in gettin you to the booth to play Ed.. Michael G...

  • what is the name of this awsome song?

  • Aftermath

  • Ed is one awesome guitar player. I have never heard anyone play like him or his original songs.

  • Ed to Shred!!

This guy will become famous in a near future, everything is good, the thecnique, the image, charisma, etc.

    Good for you Ed

  • Ed is the best, wish I went to the Namm show, but my guitar dealer brought me back a nice present of a Hellraiser C-7

  • I want to go to the nam show!

  • Cool

  • That is so cool. I've never heard anything of Ed live.

  • Oh yeah... almost forgot. That guitar is cooler than hell! And you rock the shit out of it ED!

  • I love that song! I wish I could have been there!

    Rock On, ED!!!!!
