You shouldn't place two different species in the same water with no water current, or filter, parasites, bacteria, and microscopic organisms can cross species very easily. While, most pests are species specific some aren't and can cause unseen health problems internally to your beloved pets. I own 20 reptiles and am very careful about every placing different species together.

Yes, Savannah monitor fill their lungs with air which creates something like an balloon in their chest. Sav monitors do really enjoy water. Helps shedding too

Dang everyone just chill out about the tortoise in the water. You are supposed to put them in the tub every once in a while, they even enjoy it. It is beneficial to their health of their skin and shell, plus it makes them over all much more happy.
