  • Awesome video, provides a quick overview on the jQuery library for someone like me who have just heard of it. Now I can't wait to learn more.

  • This guys like me.

  • OK, he says 'um' a lot. Get over it.

Never have I learned so much from someone so young.

    Well done Dmitri. Very impressive.

  • i can't umm listen umm too umm him umm

  • I think sometimes we're too concerned about hurting kids' feelings when what they really want is our honesty. Dmitri obviously knows quite a lot about jQuery but that was an awful presentation by any standard. It was just too rushed and all over the place. I don't know if he was just (understandably) nervous or what.

This is not to say that he can never be good at teaching. Far from it. He just needs guidance. In the meantime, I hope he takes time to enjoy his childhood and adolescence.

  • i stop watching this video after..ummm...5 minutes

  • many north korean kids grown up as crackers in North Korean schools

teen crackers are already exist who are better than 12 year old kid

  • Go out and ride a bicycle or something.

  • His "Umm"s are brutal. Like he's slapping me in the face every single time.

  • @DEMWilson Umm wat??

  • after 5 minutes ... wait wtf i'm getting teached by a kid? :D

  • @Undaworldking taught not teached.

  • @froggerabc you r funny

  • its natural for old people to blame the kid when they cant keep up

  • he looks like a young john resig #FTW

  • Umm this kid is smarter then any of you umm UMM counters, good thing u'all spoke that well at that age, get over your selves, and give this kid his dews.

    pick, pick pick.

  • UMMMM UUMMM UM UMMMM UUUMMM UM UM UUUMMM UUMU UMUMU UUUUUM UUMU UM UM UMU UM UM UM UM UM UMMU UMM

  • With due respect for his age, this wasnt so good presentation...

  • I feel sorry for him, he'll be a virgin for a very very long time...

  • @Junije1 And you will be STI ridden twat while he makes money and pays people like you? You see, people like him run the world and aspire to do something better than most of us.

For someone his age, doing a presentation and literally representing a massive multi-billion corporation, I think he did it well. This society needs more people of his age group.

I'm pretty sure his future is secured and covered with success unlike you who will still be writing useless comments on YouTube.

  • @JamesRCoston Wow, you're such a n00bfagg0t, It seems you still haven't lost your virginity.

  • @Junije1 Because I am smart that means that I haven't lost my virginity? Don't make stupid assumptions like that on YouTube because most of the time its only something you want to say and don't actually know.

I am in a relationship, but I am not prepared to discuss my life with scum like you on YouTube.

  • @Junije1 I just saw your channel, and you're nothing more than a complete waste of organs and skin. Take the comments into consideration, and do people a favour.

  • @JamesRCoston Wow, I see you're one of those persons who has to insult others to make himself feel strong.

I also see you're arrogant, full of yourself, and a self proclaimed "smart" person. Only n00bfags call themselves "smart". Being smart is when others call you smart, not yourself fag.

Oh and by the way, you should consider taking elementary school biology classes, so that way, you can learn that skin actually IS an organ.

And finally, go read a book or two, and stop being a fag.

  • @Junije1 I don't insult people. And theres nothing wrong with being confident in yourself. I don't wait for other people to judge me and give a result. I could care less about that. I am not interested in biology. So, if that is one of your strong subjects, why on earth are you watching this video?

  • @JamesRCoston First of all biology is not one of my strong subjects, but it was when I was 9 years old in 3rd elementary, that's where I learned skin is an organ.

Secondly, you just keep calling yourself smart and denying other peoples opinion and it will get you nowhere in life.

And lastly, I am watching this video cause I might be using jQuery sometime in the future, unless CSS3 takes a bigger share on user browsers.

  • @Junije1 That wouldn't happen, since jQuery and CSS are two different technologies. So, if you are this smart, why did you post a comment like that? Make something of yourself.

  • @JamesRCoston Knowing what jQuery and CSS are, doesn't make anyone smart, doesn't make me smart, and sure doesn't make you smart.

And btw, I know jQuery and CSS are two different technologies, but they partially overlap in some areas, like visual effects, ie. transitions, gradients, animations, and much more. Anyway, with the use of CSS3, jquery visual effects are becoming obsolete and code bloated, the preffered way to go is using pure CSS3

Unfortunatly 80% of user browsers dont support CSS3.

  • @Junije1 hahaha why do you think he is?

  • What plugin ?

  • This kid is amazing..! Wonder how can someone be at that level in his age. Thumbs Up buddy..!!!!

  • This is really a major jQuery braindump. Kudos to this kid, he has skills. He covers quite a bit of ground in just one hour... I enjoyed the braindump.

  • ummmm and ummm umm umm a ummmm um um ummmm

  • It's great that he's 12 but drupal is lame and he didn't really explain anything interesting or unique. Maybe I'm missing something.

  • Wow,I'm a year younger than him and we have like the same skill

  • wait, that brainiac isn't chinese?

  • Ummm...I like it ..

  • @plutonimvamsi Uhmmmmm...

  • this is a greattt great presentation and awesome content! but this kids is killing the learning process! why they put them to show this? is obviously that the kid know a lot! that he is a brain, but as a kid dont have experience and teacher skills! is all wasted for people who is looking to start with jquery and explore it. He is supossing that everybody know what he is talking about, plus he dont explain almost nothing, he just talk with broken words. Googletechs do this again please!

  • This boy was grown by me.

  • this video has some... um good content, but um..... the presenter is a bit um scatter-brained, and ummmmm it leads to a non-effective kind of um presentation and stuff. and it's like hes um rushing through ummm everything he's talking about. it ends up being a braindUMp, with painful interface. thumbs down. props to those people who remained in the audience. don't care if i get info from a 12 year old or an octagenarian, but for a googletechtalk, this is way below standard.

  • Whats the console he is using ??

  • This really sucks, we are no longer paying attention to the content that he's presenting rather than his age.

  • Dmitri Gaskin is only 12??? He's cool and intelligence boy. It seems that how he grows???

  • The whole point of jQuery is to make things VISUAL. This lifeless video is as far removed from visual, as Pluto is from the Earth... someone should have briefed geek kid to make it interesting...

  • hes a messenger

  • Fuck this kid

  • @KarmaticStylee Fuck you.

  • Not even an applaud :S

  • wow amazing potential

  • $10 he wont get laid until he's 43 :P

  • @4allnipples You kidding me ? He's hitting through this entire video and is only 12 years old. You have no idea what's happening behind that desk :-P. Olala.

  • @4allnipples *uhm*, second of all, *uhm*, look at 29:49, he likes it when things look pretty. So, back to work. Where's he at in 2011 ?

  • ahm ahm ahm ahm me duele la cabeza de oir tanto ahm ahm ahm !! fck you!

  • This kid needs his mom => umme - mom => umme - mom => umme * 60

  • I wish someone had spent a few hours to teach the basics of presentation, his ambitious mind woulda easily picked it up and this woulda been 10x better

  • @ the start... what the fuck am I looking at? ($/# functions)

  • Painful to watch, but then I was hacking BASIC when I was his age, so I can't talk..

  • Ummmm

  • i think this kid broke the record in number of "um"s in one hour

i could not watch this video,

just after 2 minutes i started to get the urge to strangle him.

If you going to put kids in these videos then teach them the basics about doing speeches FIRST !!!! ex. like not say "um" all the fucking time

  • It's like there's one of those vintage monkeys with banging cymbals, constantly pushing the word "Uhm" to his mouth. And whenever the monkey get's bored in throws a few bonus' ones. xD

  • I got to 3:00 and the "um"s made me write this comment and then find another video

  • I truly Envy of his genius, but this presentation is soo bad it can not be focused on for more than seconds. He is so annoying to listen to. Really, I'm having a mental crash down from "Umms" and fast out of rythm speach in pitch voice. He is young all right, he should play outside with his friend, or if none is at his age, then find some. This is not TechTalks this is showing off with a smart kid. dislike^3

  • the kid is better at teaching than my university teachers :)

  • I wish I were as skilled as he is as an adult! This is really depressing me

  • Awesome video, that 12 year old know more about jQuery than most developers i know!

  • Well, he is only 12 years old, so I’ll be less abrupt. It is the tile “jQuery” that got this video 233, 964 views (currently) not his ability to express himself. I guess SOMEONE is glad HE knows what he means. This video is like watching someone having an episode of some kind.

  • those are speakers who talk loud in public places. so I can guess those are mechanical mouthes from U.S . check out your ugly habits first before blame other guys hahahhahaa

  • I think I can`t judge his 5% greatness or knowledge of him by meeting in front of him.

how can you judge his knowledge by watching tutorial videos? hahah

why do they always tend to speak loud or fast ? I guess talking fast is like winning or being winner to them haa

  • I wonder what his father work . talking too much is not good explanation to listeners.because almost listeners tend to don`t focus well what speaker is saying for long time

that was like babbling himself. I hope he learn cultural studies not to be rude because he is young, there are many smart kids seem like knowing great knowledges at young age. careful not to be unfamiliar with ur friends.

knowledge is not based on telling stories haha

  • what's that js> that he calls the javascript console?

  • When I was twelve, I made some .BAT files to call the games I like by typing only the first letter of the game name. And I thought I was a genius!

This guy is going to be the next Bill Gates!

  • awesome!! I think back to when I was that old and playing with Photoshop 3 and Windows 3.1 .. although I'm not using Windows 3.1 anymore.. If I'd been introduced and encouraged into programming, I'd be much better at it now, but we can always learn more if we take the time to.. and for people who don't like how he talks.. John Carmack talks a bit funny, so does Bill Gates.. and they're far smarter than most of us will ever be. if you couldn't make it through the umms.. you missed out

  • so when is this kid going to upset Sheldon on the Big Bang Theory!

  • Great stuff.....I super loved this and was really very knowledgeable even for beginners like me.

  • his nervous lol

  • He's pretty good at talking though, - I'd be nervous too, but he's doing a good job :) And I pretty much learned some new traversals in jQuery.

  • at 12 years old, I was messing with win 98.. but he is messing with web designing. so lucky.. wish i was born some 7 years before :D

  • He is obviously brilliant.

If only he could blow his nose and take a public speaking course (he speaks quite well as far as public speaking goes for a 12 year old but needs to eliminate all the "ummms" and "so's").

Considering he is only 12 though, by the time he is 20 I'm sure he will be an advanced and compelling speaker.

  • 0his ummmmm is as sweet as john resigs.....love them both,,,,,,,,,,, powerful......kiss for the kid

  • umm,nice

  • thax a lot google for this big teacher

  • That kid is smart, gonna put us old guys out of business!

  • nice kid very skilled..

  • Comment removed

  • ok, one hour ago i didn't quite understand the power of jquery.. so thank you Dmitri.. And i have been at many lessons where the professor where much less understandable and much more boring than this kid.. The umm thing it's not a problem in my opinion, the only problem is the console that shows only a little part of the code that he is typing.

  • @hariseldon78 yeah, the uummm were delimiters for my mind ^_^

  • he was just 12. I still umm.

  • Who seriously impressive for his age, i will overlook the issue of his presentation skills.

  • What console is he using most of the time. I looked everywhere! Is it like a plugin for firefox?

  • umm umm umm umm umm.

  • Nice audience shot at 2:10 - little does he know his presentation is going on YouTube. No pressure kid.

  • Kudos kid, not all of us have the cojones to do something like this.

  • very skilled - but it's a bad idea to drink sunny delight before your presentation.

  • 128997,5 "Umms" in a one hour video... cool :P

  • @ROVTECH2 Uhm.. what ? I didn't notice of that. *UHM!"

Regardless, interesting to see it from his point of view.

  • @ROVTECH2 yea, very annoying. I couldnt watch the video because of this...

  • We need more kids like him!

I wish I was as skilled as him when I was 12 years old.

  • @Scronix

    true that

  • @Scronix Your not kidding! This kid blew my mind.

  • @Scronix I wish I was this skilled now.

  • at this age, he can do such presentation! Wow!

It will be good if the table has different values on rows and columns so that the examples are more clear!

  • Wowww at this age his can do such presentation. Bravooooooooooooooooo

it will be good if the table has different values and not all TD :(

  • Wowww at this age his can do such presentation. Bravooooooooooooooooo

  • I would love to watch this, but i just can't do it. I'm sure he's skilled and everything but he drives me crazy.

  • @nd1312 how? jealousy?/ love?/ appreciation?/ no-time?/

  • @hackrogenius because of the umms

  • @nd1312 i copy his umms, cuz he is so lovely.

  • Umm..so..Umm.

  • Not bad for a twelve years old, but i laughed my ass off cus he said UMM... so many times. If i had been on that meeting i would have killed myself

  • @dingoBingoIt i think he is copying resig

  • Of course, for a twelve year old all is fine.

Nobody can hold it against him he never saw major browser fail on JQuery in his lifetime. ;-)

Just wait for the next new browser (IE9 eg) and see JQuery fail.

  • Where do you get the js console he uses? I downloaded js console but it's hat the bottom not on the side like that. Is it part of the web page? Does anyone know?

  • I didn't even know what javascript was at age 12... (27 now)

  • anyone knows where to download the slides?

  • I think he tells "uhm" because he's excited ;) Wow, that's really really good for a 12 year old.

  • How scary would that be, at 12, doing that presentation in front of so many people. 0.o

  • It never gets old.. 12 year old JS king :) .. but in his speech the most common word I can hear is "uhm"

  • Mad props to this kid... what were YOU doing at 12 years old?

  • @explosivehotdogs I was playing with DOS on a fold up chair

  • @zincink same here, but I'd be willing to bet most punters here were still figuring out how to wean themselves off of eating glue... no offense to the punters! ; )

  • ummm so. ummm i guess. umm. i just can't. ummm. stand this. ummm. umm thing. umm. anymore. ummm. so. seriously. umm. how am i. ummm supposed to. umm. concentrate. umm. oh my gosh. umm. i quit!

  • Can't believe he's only 12! Little Genius! ;)

  • no big deal...jquery only has one function. The rest is learning css...which takes like a day to learn. ;o

  • Very good TechTalk. More of this easy to understand stuff please.

  • Mr. Dmitri Gaskin is definitely one to watch. He is 14 now, and still making significant contributions on the Drupal project!

  • He kinda sounds like he either has a cold or is going to cry, either way he is extremely smart.

  • 太慢了

  • WOW!!! I learned more in one hour from this 12 year old kid than I learn in some of my 16-week long classes at school :D Thank you so much. I wonder where (if) I can find the slides of this presentation. I'm really impressed and would have to admit, I owe a lot of my knowledge of jQuery to Dimitry and this tech talk :D Thanks a lot :)

  • umm

  • I watched this video a year ago, and I have just now watched it a second time a year later, but this time more carefully. Immediately before I watched this video a 2nd time (with a year interlude from the first viewing), I watched a one hour video by John Resig, author of JQuery. I am very impressed by this 12 (now 13) year old's presentation. I hope to watch this a 3rd time, without waiting so long from the prior viewing. I learned a GREAT AMOUNT from this video.

  • He is a talented and smart kid. It's too bad he is a poor public speaker; it really makes the video difficult to listen to at times.

  • @hidoisan He's 12years old for goodness sake. I'm 25 and he's teaching me! Give the kid a break he is going to be amazing.

  • @hidoisan He probably has more girls than you lonely guy

  • umm

  • ummmmmmmmmmmm

  • handsome guy :) and very clever

  • UMM UMMM UMMM UMMMM

This kid seems so smart, talented, brilliant, and everything but I can't even watch 3 mins of this video.

  • this kid is really awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • Great tutorial kid. Would be great if we could create a jQuery audio filter to remove "ums".

    That would be .filter('.um') right?

  • Since this, he has really developed of his communication skills as demonstrated in later lectures. If he explained Drupal everybody would understand it. I don't think that he is a ten year old prodigy walking the halls of Stuyvesant. Instead of being able to name every player on the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics and knowing each player's stats since rookie year, he can traverse the DOM. Might not get him on Ellen, but give him some street cred!

  • cant stand hearing this for an hour....umm .. yeah .. cant.. um.

  • the annoying kid knows more than I do... Grmpf...

  • I guess he was raised in the US or something his English does not have the usual Russian accent. Anyway - great kid, not the usual emo shit we're getting nowadays...

  • he sure is smart.

  • i just clicked a nother link here ... the other speaker from MIT is like this same kid after 10 years( HE STILL UMMM -s )

  • he is may be 12 and good at programming but this doesnt mean he has to be good at giving a conference. needs to practice more to get rid of those "umms"

  • He reminds me so much of Linus Torvalds.. :P

  • his presentation is good.

  • It's like that old video clip of Tiger Woods as a four year old, nailing golf ball after golf ball - it's not great in itself, but boy you can see the potential. There are many better jQuery explanations online, but he has at least 10 years on most of them.

Well done Dmitri, and keep at it - some day you're gonna win a major, or whatever the computer geek equivalent is.

  • @yossarianbooms

I agree with this. You can tell through his gestures he has the knowledge of a college graduate programmer, he just can't put it into words. If a kid at that age can sit down and learn to program in this much depth and use problem solving skills as effectively as a programmer does, definite prodigy.

  • i respect this young skilled kid (Y)

  • i think he really wants te cry...but good performance and info about jquery

  • learn how to use JQuerys Ajax features :)

    tulesblog(dot)(com)/ajax-tutorial

  • Um(lol!)

  • UM UM UM!!!

  • This is really impressive. I don't think I've would have been able to hold such a good speech when I was 12. He gives the audience a good introduction into jQuery and provided many technical details. 190k views for this vid and an excellent rating are prooving this. The Umm's are actually not that annoying after some minutes and I was able to watch the whole speech without any problems.

  • i closed the browser in disbelief.

and i came back and learned jQuery. Righton kid!

  • I hate him lol

  • Remember he was then only 12. I think that is not a bad presentation for such a young age. Well done, Mr. Gaskin.

  • ummmmm aaaa mmmm let's say aaaa ummmmmm

  • AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! my brain is going to explode.

  • Really good buddy

  • 0:43:52 - Tux4Kids hahahaha

  • umm umm umm ummmmmmmmmmmmmm umm umm umm ummmmmmmmmmmmmm ummu mmmm ummmmmmmmmu mummm ummmmmmm

  • Um, this is a very good video!!!

  • nothing agains him but i cant stand words be repeated over and over agian

    Uhmmmm, Uhmmmm,

  • UHM!
