  • GLORIOUS!!!

  • What a gripping song :(

  • Music from The Heart of The Universe...

  • when i listen to that song i see that there's 3 songs in same one song

  • @wild1world ---thats true man...the lyrics are also very pleasantly deep esp. coming from someone of Gerry's nature..(my 20 something "strictly hip-pop-dance" neighbour fell in love with this song after hearing it once..)

  • I have pretty well everything that Gerry ever recorded going right back to his days with Billy Connolly. He never made a bad record, always taking care to produce fantastic arrangements.I love his material, this song in particular has to be my favourite,an epic!

  • @Bswaneffect Agreed. 100%. Gerry is a musical legend.

  • Truly amazing song.

  • one of THE best songs of all time ever, a truly wonderful masterpiece of music from start to finish

  • This wonderful poignant and sad recording frustrated me for over a year when released. Everytime I heard it on the radio, it had been running a few seconds--and missed the title, then the idiot Dj didn't say what it was at the end---we've all been there. It took a web page -Record Finder' to trace it for me. I bought the fantastic album--'On a Wing and a Prayer' and discovered a wonderful rage of brilliantly written/arranged / sung and played music. Can't reccomend it enough. Music for adults.

  • @MrDaiseymay Agree with you. This was Gerry´s divorce album. Pain can make you write the most beautiful songs.

  • I tell everyone i know to go onto you tube and listen to gerry so many only know baker street hope he now gets remembered as scotlands greatest singer/songwriter

  • This track and the album it came from is fantastic, always been a great fan of his

    music, timeless stuff.

  • This track plus the album it came from is fantastic, always been a big fan of his

    music, timeless stuff.

  • A CLASSIC SONG , SO DESERVING OF MORE ACCLAMATION!

  • One of the most beatiful and deeper musical expressions ever!

  • One of the most beatiful and deeper musical expressions ever!

  • Thank you for posting one of Gerry's best, Gerry was one of the best song writers of all time. What a shame he's mostly associated with Baker Street, Don't Speak of My Heart is so much more and Winters Come is his best, Thanks again.

  • some people want to make money after a great artist's death, like gerry, well, hopefully gerry didn't die for something

  • gerry is wonderfull

  • IS A BEAUTY AND WONDERFUL SONG GERRY IS A UNKNOW GENIUS ALL YOUR MUSIC HAVE A MAGIC AND SPECIAL CELTIC AND DROUIDA ROOTS FROM PANAMA ALWAYS YOU REMEMBERED

  • This is an amazing song, lovely lyrics. RIP Gerry.

  • Dear Scotsexile1 - I'm proud to be English, British and European, and to share with you your love of this great, sadly lost talent

  • Gerry Rafferty was born on April 16, the anniversary of the Battle of Culloden when the English savages and their native flunkies thought they had destroyed Celtic culture.

One of Scotland´s greatest writers, George Mackay Brown, died on that day as well. For what it´s worth, it was also my father´s birthday, also a great Scots patriot.

    Gerry Raffery, a great Scotsman.

Long live Scotland and the Celtic people.

  • I"ve got pretty much everything Gerry ever recorded, many, many great tracks, but in my opinion this is the best of the lot.Beautiful song and superb arrangement.

  • Awesome voice and world class talent.

Gerry your words were crafted in granite and your legacy will always be there. Sadly I never saw you live but maybe one day you will allow me to hum along in your presence? May god bless you and that you find peace.

  • i just love listening to him

  • Just listening to all of these fantastic songs is bringing a tear to my eye. To think that he won't be writing any more beautiful songs like this is just too hard to bear. RIP GR

  • Listening to this makes me feel so sad, Gerry Rafferty was such an immense talent, the sad bit is that not enough people realised just how good he was til now. God love you Gerry, nothing should have turned out as it did. Never to be forgotten.XX

  • Just Brillant

  • this is one of the greatest songs of all time by anyone - is there any performance/promo of Gerry singing it (visual)

  • Fantastic singer/songwriter. Love this song. R.I.P. Gerry. Scotland and the worlds loss.

  • Beautiful! "It's Easy to Talk" is another gorgeous ballad from the same album.

  • I think this is one of his best songs..& that is praise indeed. Terry Wogan used to play this a lot on his breakfast show. A wonderful song, by a modest & unassuming genius. Rest is peace Gerry, you left a great legacy.

  • This album is such a favourite, maybe cause I had a sweet love then!

All songs touch me inside, wow Gerry what did u do to me.....pls rest soulfully now.

  • another gem by Gerry

  • another gem by Gerry

  • Rest peacefully Gerry! Your heart and soul live on <3

  • I always have had tears in my eyes listening to this song from 1992. It will certainly not be the other way since 4/1 RIP Geery, you just were/are irreplacable.

  • anybody know the chords for this brilliant song?

  • Aww goodbye Gerry..I used to watch you and the gang busk on a Saturday in Paisley.Do you remember .You were freezing. I gave you my last 50p.

  • R.I.P. Gerry. Thanks for the music. It's seen me through some shitty times. You're gonna be missed badly.

  • stunning

  • Loved your music Gerry - RIP

  • RIP, Gerry ... you inspired me through some dark times ...

  • It's a crying shame that it took Gerry's passing for me to hear this song for the first time today - such a wonderful song.

  • @cazzamcdazza Me too what a beautiful song, I only heard it on Tuesday!

  • @cazzamcdazza It's a crying shame that it took Gerry's passing for me to hear this song for the first time today - such a wonderful song.

    Same here

  • @cazzamcdazza

    Same here

  • @cazzamcdazza those are my exact thoughts, the radio stations never really played many of his songs until after his death, unfortunately...I wish I had known about him years ago I feel I had been missing out on some great music!

  • @cazzamcdazza Dont know how many times I got drunk listen to this album.

It just struck to me, deeply into my heart by then.

I had a big love back those times and Gerry´s album really made me feel like I was in heaven!

  • Out of all Gerrys work , Dont speak of my heart ,and Star dont recieve the airtime they rightly deserve. Thanks for your work and efforts.

  • The best in my opinion, the most glorious melody from a musical genious, R.I.P Gerry, thanks for the memories !.

  • @flammasherman

    Seconded.

RIP Gerry and thank you for the music.

  • RIP Gerry.

    Will always remember your music............

  • i haven,t words to say i feel ,today has gone 30 years of my life ,gerry was one of the most greatest songwriters ever ,Thanks ,Thanks for you for ever Gerry

  • Rest in peace ,thanks from Spain

  • A Lennon/Mcartneyesque song.Best compliment I can give.Pure genius and someone please release it again.

  • This song by the late great pop genius, Gerry, deserves to be better known. It could perhaps have a bit more light and shade in the arrangement but I think it is one of the best songs he wrote.

    May he rest in peace.

  • top man, will be missed

  • RIP Gerry.

  • RIP Gerry. Thank you for the music.

Without doubt this is his best song.

  • even music, his only great love, couldnt save him. infact it was his love that killed him. ridiculous. loads to try and learn from this very sad story.

  • Sleep tight Gerry, you'll always be a legend. x

  • goodnight bud xxx

  • Gerry Rafferty, thank you for the music. RIP

  • i was brought up on gerry rafferty, he is an absolute legend what ever mood your in gerry has a song for it THANK YOU X

  • i sent Mike Beasley a message to say how good his version was of this song - not only no acknowledgement but it's been deleted too!

Gerry's is possibly one of the best songs ever recorded anywhere in my opinion... so it's surprising someone could sing it almost as well as the GReat man himself

  • This is such a good song...not a huge fan of Gerry. First heard this song on the Wogan breakfast show, its pure genius, superb production and the words are beautiful as for the orchestration it always brings a tear to the eye.

  • Reminds me of those days in the Army in 1967 when I was just a recruit. Thanks Gerry for so much music for so many years.

  • if everyone listened to gerry rafferty the world would be at peace "THIS IS A FACT",thank you gerry for all the joy you have given me & my family over the years, where ever you are i hope you are well, THANK YOU!! :-)

  • Although it's a little country-ish, it's a beautiful song. Gerry's voice is amazing. No one can do what Gerry can with his voice. My favorite song from the album, however, is The Light of Love. That being said, type in raffey416 and listen to what Mike Beasley does with Gerry's song. Gerry's is better, but Mike's is very good also. While you're there, check out Mike's other videos. Some of those songs are his own compositions.

  • @raffey416 - Gerry was interviewed by John Dunn on Radio Two's drivetime show when this was released. He told John his voice was extra amplified so it stands out above the accompaniment. You can tell that when listening to this great piece.

  • God the words hurt like hell

  • One of the most amazing and evocative singer/songwriters

  • As Sunday gives us this song...Even it is from 1992 : Great work and video!!! Like so much this song! Thank you plenty!

  • Speciaal voormijn nichtje 25 Suzanne****

  • Dear ludo281160. I've know idea what was going on in his life, during the period when he wrote this beautiful song, perhaps a relationship break-up or maybe some sort of health issue. A lovely record none the less. Pax to all from Ian Smith.Xxx.

  • Quite simply his greatest work. Marvellous chord structure, almost classical in beauty. I bought his "On a wing and a prayer"album just for this one track!!! Thanks so much for posting. Pax to all from Ian Smith.Xxx.

  • @Mr1973ian I agree but very strange to me is that Gerry was beginning to write after 1977 very much more *deeply* songs as I know through the years : I know his work. This song goes straight to the heart!

    A lifeline to me... fantastic!!

  • @Mr1973ian Quality record,quite simply his greatest work.Pax to all from 73soulboy.Xxx.(Formerly Mr1973ian).Xxx.

  • Thank you so much for this, I've looked for it many times and hoped one day that someone would get round to posting it.

you don't get many opportunities to hear it and even less now that Wogans slot has been taken over by Chris Evans.

I know that it was probably the choice of Paul Walters but at least Terry still continued to play it from time to time after Paul died.

I so love the line don't let your heart break down, all of us have probably felt like that at some time!

  • @gailstclare I never heard Terry playing this song after Paul died, it was one of the most wonderful songs Paul introduced to R2 and i would love to hear it on the radio again... trouble is if anyone did play it they would probably fade it early; i like Chris but he is far more interested in sounding good than in what he plays

  • GR.....

The equal of Burns in heartbreaking simplicity and love in decline.

    GD

  • Gerry remains one of my favourite songwriters.

Many thanks for posting this vid.

  • Brilliant and so hard to find..thanks for posting

  • Don't speak of my heart, it hurts too much, it hurts to touch

I'm writing the book each and every day

Take a look at my face, I still need, I still bleed

I've been running on empty since you went away

The spirit world looks down on us

    Sad that we're apart

Don't wanna talk about it, don't make me think about it

So please don't speak of my heart

Wonderful song. I love listening to GR because I think he produced really great music. He was also a great lyricist, as all his songs have deep meaning.

  • My favorite song of all time. Gerry wrote this after splitting from his wife and I can relate to this. A truly sad song and one that makes me cry as I too lost my wife. Wherever you are Gerry you are the finest singer/songwriter there is. God bless You.

  • What can you say???? Fantastic

  • Dont speak of my heart, it hurts too much -- hurts to touch Im writing the book each and every day Take a look at my face, I still need -- I still bleed Ive been running on empty since you went away. The spirit world looks down on us Sad that were apart So please dont speak of my heart. Whenever we talk she says hang on -- just hang on Meanwhile Im drowning in the pouring rain And each time we meet theres a sad farewell -- sad farewell She tells me someday Im gonna love again.
  • The way that she walked out on me Still tears me apart So please dont speak of my heart. Every days an endless maze of dreams that fade and die No one believed we were saying Goodbye And every night I think of you Im still left wondering why I cant believe that were saying goodbye. And when I wake up in the morning And wonder where Im going to It all came without a warning Whats a man supposed to do?
  • Dont let your heart break down

Dont let your heart break down.

Dont speak of my heart, it hurts too much -- it hurts to touch

Im writing the book each and every day

Take a look at my face, I still need -- I still bleed

Ive been running on empty since you went away.

The spirit world looks down on us,

    Sad that were apart

Dont wanna talk about it -- dont make me think about it

So please dont speak of my heart.

  • THANK YOU... so much.. for posting this amazingly wonderful song, which has been so overlooked for so long. This is the greatest "unknown" masterpiece GR ever wrote.. The chords still send shivers down my back every time I hear them, and the lyrics are just heart-breaking.. "The spirit world looks down on us / so sad that we're apart". Absolute bloody genius..!! Thank you again for posting this awesome song, and thank God for the fabulously-talented, immortal Gerry Rafferty.
