you had to adjust the fuel injector spray to make it turbo. and you had to update the alda to not adjust off atmospheric preasure but to run off the turbo. or you are lying and this is a 300td just with a 240d badge
@azzgetter what are you talking about? ive never seen a 240D turbo. and for the record like 80% of w123 turbo diesels are in america.. feels like it at least cus all 300D´s are turbo in america.
@coolakiIlen007 to make it clear it was never sold from the factory like this however, it is a fairly common swap to throw a 617 turbo into a 240D body, especially for ones with 4 speed manual, because it's much easier to do an engine swap than a transmission one as it bolts up fairly easy vs. making new tranny mount, tranny linkages, clutch system install, customizing drive shaft ext. also there WERE VERY FEW early turbo kits produced for the 240.
@BmxDieseldude ok, when you say very few i can believe you. :P ive got a -83 240D 4 speed manual, and i dont think turbo is very necessary since its very steady and powerful but not fast which doesnt matter cus its a car that will go on forever and thats more valuble than going fast in my opinion.
although i love my 300D turbo diesel, i like the 240D better because it is the one with the reputation to reach a million miles, plus its more reliable
i know that, and the both of them have the potential (and have reached) a million miles. it's just when you hear about the "million mile car" its always a 240D (i think a w115 counts also)
it wont last long if you put a turbo on a 2.4. It doesn't have the extra oil rings on the piston like the five cylinders have. It was fun while it lasted.
forcedinduction, thats probably a stock turbo. He said he just swapped the engine with a 5zyl turbo, and yea that exactly what a stock turbo sounds like
Sure! Sounds just like my turbo with the exhaust off! Maybe i spoke too soon, maybe youve talked to this guy, and maybe he does has a garret. But it doesnt say that here... But yea man, looking at your videos you do have that 240 tricked the fuck out...Whats your 0-60 in that thing? Are you making over 120bhp?
It's a stock T3, with just a down pipe in this video. I now have a 2.5" exhaust with an aero-turbine muffler and a air/water intercooler on it. I have not turned up the fuel yet so it still makes about stock power.
explain please, what is an air water intercooler? As far as I know, a normal intercooler just runs hot turbo gasses through a cooler that is cooled by the air
An air/water intercooler runs the hot compressed air from the turbo through a cooler with water surrounding it, similar to an air/air intercooler. The heated water then runs to a small radiator (in the case of this car) or ice tank to be cooled.
I know some jap cars have water intercoolers, is that the part u used?
I saw a site where u could have an ice box that could be bypassed if u wished so that u can use just a water radiater or both ice box and radiater for intercooler, any engine pics?

@coolakiIlen007 oh, and all 300D's are turbo 81 and after in america. 1980 and earlier were normally aspirated.
