  • screw the hall of fame - It's all political bs

  • was that crowd ever treated to something special that night. I would loved to have been there.

  • @1961 stratocaster Thanks for the update- Cheers!

  • Válasz a videóra... ilyen soha többé nem lesz, klasszikusok

  • Great performance.... who is the drummer?

  • @gerryny97 The drummer ist Brendan O'Neill. Today he is playing with Gerry McAvoy and Mark Feltmann (also from the band from Rory) by Nine Below Zero. For me is Brendan the best drummer from Rory.

  • the drummer does a great job on politician too ... dunno if either him or Rory ever played it before ... very nice ...

  • sure rory should be in HOF but most people like catchy top40 type tunes and

dont care about who played on it or wrote it etc

the R ND R HOF should have different wings with different selectors

  • I am an American, a musician for over 40 years (since I was 7 yrs old!), and a lover of rock n roll, blues, and great pop.... But please trust me when I tell you that the Rock N Roll Hall of Shame is a joke.... and Rory doesn't need to be in that political, snobby, self-righteous but always wrongus joke of an establishment. Seriously - Donna Summer nominated this year?? SHE IS DISCO !!! Hello?? But no RUSH?? no KISS?? and so many others who have been slighted. Rory was the best. He knew it.

  • Yur rite Rory never cared bout the money or the fame part so fuk the rok and roll hall of fame thats not what he was about Gallagher won't be forgotten

  • rory is sick!! in a good way...what a guitarist....

  • Rory is playing great but doesn't look do good here...Drinking had been taking it's toll I think.

  • Any minute of Jack´s or Rory´s tunes are more worth than TEAPARTIE´s political Announcements. The People like social, critical excitement.

We like to give a fundament. A stone in LA is just the start. Music is a Platform.

  • yeah, you know it, it goes: do do do do dodododododo do do....

    classic !!!!

  • Pure heaven- I saw Rory first when he got the OGWT New Year gig in I think 75? I've loved him ever since, no nonsense, no pretence, confident without being arrogant, and a real showman too. To see the great man with JB, and so obviously enjoying the experience is a marvellous experience for me, and I am sure many others. He should be inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame, but I guess, seeing all positive posts around andd connected with him, he probably doesn't need to be, he's got you!

  • Beautiful. And Jack Bruce wouldn't be bothering to play with Rory gallagher if he wasn't a first rate guitarist, which his many admirers always recognised him as.

  • I love Cream and i actually think Rory has added to this classic original, furthermore, 'bluesrevenge', i couldn't disagree with you more, Rory is up there with Eric, how can you possibly say he was an average guitar player? He is included in my collection of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Black Sabbath, best guitarist out of Ireland.

  • Bruce REALLY seems to be enjoying himself here! Much more so than on the Cream reunion dvd

  • @bluesrevenge The reason Rory is not in the R&R Hall is cuz he didn't have hit records in the U.S. He was a major star in Europe, but was something of an unknown stateside. Ever see him live? It was a testament to his worthiness of induction. A balls out performer, great guitarist and songwriter.....he had his own inimitable sound just like SRV, Santana, Clapton, Hendrix, Albert Collins. Gary Moore.....I don't know about that. Rory could not be mistaken for anyone else. Far, far above avg.

  • @cs868 scrape it off

  • @robertjtull DYTIGAF?

  • @bluesrevenge When Jimmy was asked how it felt to be the worlds greatest guitar player he replied go ask Rory.

  • @bulletinman that's a lie

  • @bulletinman It's Jimi and he said that type of thing a lot. Very humble. No disrespect to Rory intended

  • Rory forever lives in my heart!

  • I had no idea that Rory ever had a chance to play with Jack and vice versa, and, obviously this was the first time, so it's a first for me !!!

  • I can not even imagine being there to see Jack & Rory together live, this is priceless! Thank you jmcm02 ~~♥~~

  • ohhhhhh this is so f#@king amazing...... Words can't describe how good this is... I know to some, especially non-musicians, this may seem like a simple bass riff, simple jam song..... But look deeper, Rory was backstage only minutes before, and didn't even know the riff.... Jack hums it for him, Rory hangs back, works his way into it, and then just creams all over it.... Dam I miss the 60s-80s, and I am so grateful for youtube, and the wonderful people who post such great artistry! THANK YOU!

  • my jaws were down all the way through. Jack Rules!

  • This clip is simply amazing...thanks so much!

  • Two liver transplanted...one lucky( thanks god ) one not (god damn)

  • jack is one incredible artist with

    gifts and then some

    more gifts

  • Rory is my second favorite guitarist and Jack was my first favorite bass player.. I got to meet both after shows... I'll never forget those experiences. Really cool to see them together on stage playing together. Wish I was there.

And yes, Rory deserves to be in the RRHOF.... ask U2 they'll agree....

  • i agree brendan o`neill`s drumming is a solid as Mt.Everest.

  • The Rock n Roll hall of Fame obviously is unrepresentative of what true rock music is if Rory Gallagher has not been inducted. Really...come on now.

  • I agree Rory needs to be inducted into the Rock N roll hall of fame >and its a no brain er> Why is he not already?

  • Can you believe rory didnt know this track !!!!!!

  • Just revisited this and I'd like to add to my last comments. Who is the drummer?, that is solid drumming.

  • @VintageSG Brendan O' Neill, Rory's drummer

  • Bad form replying to oneself. Thank you for naming the drummer. As soon as I posted, I spotted the question had already been answered further down the comments list. I could have sworn I'd hit the cancel button. Ah well, Brendan O'Neill is solid on the drums here. What a pleasure to listen to this track.

  • Rory Gallagher and Jack Bruce- what legends!

  • Just watched this for the first time prompted by a mate who went to see Jack Bruce at Holmfirth last - I'm sat in Luxembourg and very jealous so had to get a quick fix!! That being said, I also rate Rory G very highly. I made up the numbers on a group that went to see him in Bristol in c1972/73 never having heard his stufff before. Still believe he's one of the best but as you say under-rated by those that think they know better.....

  • super solo

  • I support the left.. but i'm leaning leaning leaning to the riiiighhtt

  • Wow, first time I ever saw this video...smokin!!!!! Rory was WAY under rated!!!!

  • Man, never saw this. Smoookin! Thank heavens for Youtube. Peace!

  • That`s how to play it Eric.

  • @bazmitch ?

  • 21 bad penny's need a rocket up the arse

  • Rory rocks as always and jack Bruce's suit sucks so much!

  • Who is drumming here?

  • @NickAlexanderGoldman

The drummer is Brendn O'Neil who played with Rory from 1981 through 1991

  • Outstanding - no other word

  • Hendrix claimed Rory was "the best"

  • Rory doesnt need to be in that stupid American rock 'n roll hall of fame. Legends like Rory, Knopfler and the old bluesmen are bigger than that stupid place.

  • @fIRsTRATmAN lol you sound like Johnny Rotten, except he called it a "piss stain". Understatement of the Rock Millenium! :P

  • @fIRsTRATmAN I Never thought of it like that ! And i always wondered why Knopfler never made it in? I

  • If you're interested in checking out the level of respect for Rory among the Irish musicians who followed him, then be sure to check out the Ghost Blues documentary DVD. The guy literally sacrificed his life blazing the Irish rock trail, with no patience for compromise along the way. As for Jack, I've belatedly come to appreciate just how great he was. A phenomenal and versatile musician, as well as one of that small handful of instantly recognizable vocalists.

  • THIS IS AWESOME!!! Looks like Bruce almost had to cut Rory off...lol...The man wanted to keep on going...

  • @imprettystoned .....I would listen to these guys all night at a blues bar drinking my ass off. Jack has always had the perfect rock and roll voice. Only other one in the same league is Stevie Winwood. (ABBA over these guys?.....PAH-leeze).....What's an Abba anyway?.......(Leon Russell anyone?)

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland With all respect I would like to add Steve Marriot to your list of greatest r&r voices.

  • WAT a Super video! Brings me back to that voice I heard on acid frequently! He practices what he preaches!...............................Jack & the Irish guitar SAint!

  • Gallagher is god....

  • I agree Rory needs to be inducted into the Rock N roll hall of fame, but it seems anymore the rock n roll hall of fame is all politics, who in their right mind puts rap music into the rock n roll hall of fame, they need to let the fans have a vote on who should go in there, a lot of people like Rory overlooked in favor or some half assed act

  • @rallygsc How about SRV too. A troupe of monkeys with Down's Syndrome could do better than the R & R Hall voters

  • @rallygsc not to mention theres pop and r and b in there, even blues is pushing it i mean why not just call the music hall of fame at this point

  • ERIC WHO ?

  • THIS IS AMAZING... TWO MASTERS AT WORK INDEED!

  • Every now and again you can see in Jacks eyes that he is loving bouncing off Rorys playing and is upping his playing to match. What a wonderful version.

  • west bruce and laing live has the BEST politician you will ever hear!! this was damn good, but if you go to west bruce laing on you tube, you will find politician (from the almost unknown "alive and kickin" album) JACK F-ing BRUCE!!!

  • If you put two giants together, it doesn't always work. But here the result is brilliant. Thanks for the upload.

  • rory had no idea how to play the main riff but he busted out a rippin guitar part regardless.

  • jack bruce palys a mean bass!

  • Jack bruce sure can play that bass!

  • Look & sounds as if they were digging the jam.The audience jizzed too

  • Are there actually 20 people on this planet that don't like this? They are not from this planet.I truly believe people say they don't like something just to be a dick.If you play Rory Gallagher and Jack Bruce and expect something bad you are a fucking Idiot and need your soul examined

  • @joethepainter90 Well said! Seems the age of musicians is gone. I hope to hell it comes back!

  • @robertmacisaac The musicians are still there but the mainstream media are musically bankrupt. If you google YT, it suggests Miley C., Justin B. and Eminem. At the time, White Room and Tattooed Lady were on TOTP and the radio in the UK.

  • @joethepainter90 yup, and I am not one of them!

  • Pure bliss !

  • these 2 have long been favourites of mine, but, lets not forget a 3 piece and without a good drummer u fall apart, rock on :P

  • Odd to see Rory taking back stage, still a great performance by all though, is that Rory being told how the song goes before they play it?

  • Jack is playing the riff a little sharp on the fretless.

  • This is a masterful piece of improvisation... lots of musician should sit quietly and listen

  • he gets a pretty thick tone out of that strat

  • WHOA! Rory out-erics Eric! power triad on a grand scale!

  • Gives a whole new respect to the word improvisation. Two masterful musicians in their own regard!!

  • Thank you! Thank you! for this awsome clip! It's a timless piece of an artistic musical masterpiece!!!

  • how fucking awesome is this clip.....wooooooooooooooooo

  • and how about play a harmonica to

  • THIS IS GREAT.........

  • OK, that was just awesome. Jack's probably never played that hot since Crossroads, and Rory was a perfect foil. I think Rory played it better than Eric!

Why were they together here? It looks like a concert, but obviously Jack had to give him a quick "how to" backstage, as if it was just this one song.

  • Comment removed

  • @rorrance Yes but I'm sure he'd heard the song a hundred times. Add to that it's simply a blues progression and any good musician could do it let alone one of Gallagher's stature.

  • @rorrance With a talent like Rory's why would you want to rest in fuckin' peace!? You would float about inspiring young guys starting out on their music!!

  • god damn Rory was the best.

  • Rory and Jack - heaven?

  • Have never heard of bruce but he shreds like a champ. . . .and Rory epic as usual!

  • @phil862007 I suggest you do some "YouTubing" down the Jack Bruce branch of the river. No disappointment awaits you there, over 30 years and 18 albums of solo work after "cutting teeth" with "Blues Incorporated", John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Manfred Man, & CREAM. Bruce being a co-writer of most of Cream's greatest hits. In '68 Cream grossed more than the next 6 top groups including The Doors & Hendricks. In 1989, Bruce began recorded with Ginger Baker and released "A Question of Time". So GO!

  • One thing I love about rock musicians from their era is the way they valued that jamming / improv thing; they weren't afraid to fall on their faces. These are two of the best. Rory clearly doesn't know the song, but he's knows to hold back and listen, throwing in some stock licks, until he's heard enough of it that he can then cut loose with authority -- head to head with Jack Bruce, no less. If I found myself on stage w/ Jack, I'd be frightened into the adult diaper aisle. Great clip.

  • @diddlytube So true. I just can't watch this without smiling happily all the time.

  • @diddlytube EXCELLENT analysis! Guys just wandered from club to club lookin' for a chance to rock with their idols and peers...

  • @diddlytube Wow, dude, truewr words couldnt be spoken! And on top of it all they are having a blast. This is a great jam. I probably would shit in my pants also but once you got the feel it would be awesome to jam withthese guys. Rory is so underrated. He is totaslly in the Clapton, Page, Beck and so league! Rory RIP bro, I love ya!

  • @diddlytube Rory would have known this song, dunna forget he was in Taste about the same time Cream were doing there thing short lived 60's thing.... and Taste 'were' a big band on this side of the big 'pond'...with the Experiance et al

  • @DOTTYROSETORUNSKI Agreed, for sure. I'm sure Rory "knew" the song, for the reasons you list. You couldn't be in a trio in the British Isles and not be aware of Cream. In fact, I'm pretty sure that the name Taste was on some level a poke at them appointing themselves "The Cream." But as a player, there's a difference between knowing a song (in the sense of being aware of it) and knowing how to play it. Witness Jack singing the riff to him backstage to get things started. That was my meaning.

  • Jack Bruce jamming "Politician" with Rory Gallagher taking Claptons role.

  • Rory's playing great on this video. Must have felt a bit like he had Clapton to compete with. And Mr. Bruce looks like he's having a hell of a time.

  • truly a summit between kings

  • jack is away wi it !! Coked out his skull

  • the vocal progression is exactly the same

  • @nick1137 thats because its blues, its a typical blues vocal progression

  • this is pure class

  • blatant copy of born under a bad sign

  • @nick1137 >>>P<<<

  • @nick1137 why do u think that??

  • tack another 15 minutes onto this jam and it would be perfect. i would love to hear the whole performance!

  • 4:39 till 5:00 is unreal

  • you don't know what you are talking about - and it's to play, not "too" play

  • A fretless bass is easier too play.

  • Rory blistering as usual.

At the start of (and during) Bad Penny Montreux there is a big guy with a beard off his head on drugs buzzing to Rory and hammering his air guitar. Is that him in the crowd at the end? Anyone know?

  • What we have here is the finest guitarist and the finest bass guitarist ever - and the drummer isn't bad either - rip Rory

  • loved cream in the 60's loved Rory Gallagher in the 70's and still do!!

  • awesome!

  • So F-ing cool! I heard Cream do this, live, way back in Baltimore in front of 10,000 or so hippies. '69-70 or so. Man, those big 6th chords on the V and the IV. Hard, electric - Revolution and tradition, Capitalism and Anarchy went out on a date, had a blast, and nobody got hurt.

Best of all - it put Politics in its place: a big phony racket!

Drummer's in the pocket, too. Kudos, wherever he is!

Jack Bruce is brilliant ! Rory G. was a saint of the Blues - It's ALL good, here!

  • almost completely changed the feel of the song. rory kicks ass as usual

  • Is Rory trying to say at the start that he dosn't know the song ?

  • @gazzaboy2531977 that's what it sounds like to me,,,

  • great lyrics, jack bruce is the man in my book

  • rory is fantastac as ever. Jacks tone was better with the EB2/Marshall combination

  • saw Rory in 1980, Brilliant. This track has most bizarre bass riff

  • こんな組み合わせで

    演奏してたことが有るなんて!!

  • when great musicians jamming

  • 2 badass musicians meeting..

  • Anyone know where i can download this ? ...maybe whole concert its pro shot

  • It is from the 3rd DVD of "Rory Gallagher Live At Rockpalast".

  • God.

What the F*CK happend to Jacks tone he had in his old SG?

Jack is no doubt one of my absolute favorite bassist (If not my favorite along with John Entwistle); But his tone is just pure crap here.

    Awful to hear..

  • @Nevarrus You think so? You obviously know your bass, but I thought his tone was spot on. I'll defer to your better knowledge as I play bass, but not like Jack or John :)

  • Well, Just my own personal opinion; You don't need to play any instrument to know what you like though!

I just love his old tone in Cream, the raw, distorted, gritty fuzz tone he had; Listen to Deserted Cities of the Heart from the Second Live Album; During Claptons Solo Bruce plays like mad! :)

  • well he was running his bass through a wall of marshall bass and guitar amps turned up full blast. i think his tone here is good but its great in the CREAM REUNION DVD. especially during BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN

  • totally! whats up with passive warwick sound??? sounds like he should be playing in a bad funk band!. Stick to the SG bass and the towering marshall full stacks.... if ya got the means then why the hell not?

  • his stuff rocks man......GET into my big black car.

  • shatnershairpiece .. have to disagree. this is my favorite politician . if you don't like Rory's performance close your eyes, his guitar will speak for its self. plus I thought jack gave him some admiring looks

  • Gotta get me one of those mustard suits...Rock and/or Roll!

  • Great Jam,better than original from Cream...... R.I.P Rory :(

  • I love Rory but his playing here is really irritating and uninspired. The drinking was really taking it's toll. Jack is walking all over him. Jack and a drummer is all you need. I couldn't believe that Rory had to ask him how the song goes.

  • disagree- not about the drinking part...this is a cool jam

  • i do however agree, that rory when younger was more animated....

  • merveilleux

  • Very funky!

  • 19truth53 you are an ass,really!

  • rory was being polite.

  • Jack really started something with that dry toned bass guitar and as for Rory...don't even get me started LOL...

    I love this track...

  • Vote for Scotland's Greatest Ever Bassist

Dominic Aitchison (Mogwai), Derek Forbes (Simple Minds), Alan Gorrie (Average White Band), Dougie Payne (Travis) or Jack Bruce (Cream)?

Vote at Dear Scotland this week.

  • What about Pete Agnew???

  • What about Neil Murray and Jimmy Bain?

  • dat isset....

  • Anyone who thinks bass playing is easy should pick up an unmarked fretless, and do some improvising.

  • @andytom Actually, it's easier to play fretless than fretted.

  • @proferic How is that?

  • @andytom Once you get the intonation down, the frets get in the way. Playing with frets is like driving down a road with speed bumps on it.

  • @proferic Well, I'll take your word for it :P. I have only played a fretless a few times, and that was hard as hell..

  • @proferic Klugscheisser alle !!!!! Peace

  • @andytom I think it is.. i've played guitar enough, and they are very similar. ANY improv on a fretless guitar/bass is not so easy, you gotta have the memory in you. Now, if it were some idiot whos never picked up more than guitar hero, i'd fully agree here! I'd also like to see the live show. XD

  • @andytom You speak the truth. I started as a bass guitarist and for a year or so I had custody of a double bass - difficult enough to get enough calluses to avoid bleeding all over the strings, never mind achieving perfect intonation. I switched to guitar 22 years ago but sometimes I still miss the bass. But no better way to learn the basics of harmony and rhythm than to start on bass and then move to guitar.

  • @andytom Agreed.

Jack's basses have side LED's that mark where the frets should be ;)

  • @gregzeebass so he plays, sings and looks at the leds all simultaneously ...
