  • If only more "shredders" would expand their horizons there would be more Ron Jarzombeks in this world creating true art vs self absorbed wankery.

  • cannibal corpse bassist.........

  • for some reason i always thought he resembled david ellefson in a way

  • ahahhahah no es un humano !!

  • to me, also the bassist is fuckin not bad at all!

  • @herbert71100 cannibal corpse bassist

  • i let this play while i read the linked interview. thanks, thanks again.

  • This is not your average Petrucci, this is JARZOMBEK! Although, Petrucci is still great.

  • My Brothers and me went to school with him!!!! He is awesome!!!

  • 3:41 - 3:50 is seriously makes my head want to explode from sheer insanity of it. Bleeding In The Brain has one of my favorite solos though. So damn good!

  • Fantastic playing

    So clean and controlled

  • His guitar has too many notes. How come this isn't on "Bet You Can't Play This"?.........Cuz you can't!!!!!

  • Is that Marty Friedman at 4:42?? btw this guy kicks ass and has some sick ass song names !!

  • @GodsRodoG92 Yes, Jarzombek played with Friedmans touring band some time back. I believe he is actually on the Japan concert DVD

  • Do you think Ron ever gets home, breaks out the Yamaha electro-acoustic and goes crazy with some Ronan Keating covers just for a change of pace? ;)

  • @realbluemeanie lmfao

  • New Blotted Science on the way! Pre-order 'The Animation Of Entomology' EP at indiemerch(.)com/blottedscience. Release date is October 4!

  • I get so excited that it results in heavy depression.

  • Where is "Words for Nerds"?

  • @loquendolol Words for Nerds is from Spastic Ink this is all from Blotted Science

  • Ron is allergic to 4/4

  • This is awesome, but makes you wonder what kind of normal songs he might come up with. Something with acoustic guitar and ukeleles doing the same kind of crazy music might be cool too.

  • Ron & Bobby... Two insane master musicians. Perhaps underrated, but extremely gifted.

  • I'd love to see a G3 with Howe, Jarzombek and Govan or Vinnie Moore

  • Watchtower's 'Control and Resistance' is still stands today as an

OTT album. And Ron is the ' Nutty Professor' of rock guitar.

  • If you haven't, and you want to know, look up Jarzombek's circle theory. You'll visually understand (cuz he explains it really well) why his shit sounds so unconventional. If you look up his oscillation cycles video it will demonstrate (less clearly then the videos on his website) the application of this arbitrary circle "no-theory" theory. It's WILDDDdddddd

  • I never really listened to Blotted Science much despite having it around, but then I downloaded this, and by the time I noticed, I've been listening to it quite damn often.

Ron Jarzombek is ridiculously engaging to listen to. I'd love it if you took up on a request to make a similar video for Spastic Ink ^^ or gordian knot, any of the bands he's been in works, really.

  • Ron writes songs in something like pi/2e

  • @metalsimon LMAO!!!! Yeah he studied Eulers theory and applied it to music!!!

  • Fuckin' Crazy

  • @longboat66613 yes i love that line it's so damn sexy. probably my favorite thing out of the whole album for some reason. maybe i have a bass fetish

  • Ron Jarzombek I hate this guy !Since I've discovered his music, every other guitarists except of Jason becker and Shawn lane seems to me so fuckin' borin',can't wait for the Animation of entomology,Mathematics,A new project,featurin'...everything!and please, for those that compares petrucci to Jarzombek..U poor guys!petrucci can play this as well as many other guitarists, but he will probably need Ron to compose..

  • @siiiidus Try Tosin Abasi, not the same style. But another cool guitarist, Sleep Terror (was) a cool project too even though the guitar player has become sort of a douche bag.

  • @theallmightyham :)) totally agree about sleep terror. Loved that band when I was a teen; too bad the guitarist became and a douche and didn't fulfill the prophecy.

  • I've been manic....this is it with very little substance..nice for a moment of awe but wheres the music...kind of like speed of light and not stopping to see the beauty of the stars and planets.....I wish I had his speed and stamina though for a better purpose. Tech heads enjoy!

  • @dedanzingbearum Envy is a deadly sin.

  • @longboat66613 Yeahh and that happens to be Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse =)

  • This stuff sounds a lot like Protest the Hero....or vice versa

  • @kaydensmommy2010 more like vice versa since Ron has been around for alil over 20 years

  • @kaydensmommy2010 asshole

  • Ron Jarzombek + Jordan Rudess = Universal Killing Spree.

  • I've felt in love D:!!!!

  • 1:40 that looks a lot like the frankenstrat

  • How the hell could 3 ppl dislike this????!!!!! Well I guess if they watch american idol its possible.

  • he's not your typical metal/shredder. He's actually alot more musical and has alot cleaner technique than most guys

  • The best

  • I sense a fair amount of nerd rage in these comment boards.

  • Whats up with the hype about this guy? To me he sounds like your typical metalshredder + the lacking of 4/4 use (not that I would want that)

  • I hear many licks reminiscent of Spastick Ink.

  • i think ron jarzombek doesn't like 4/4

  • @peopleispoep

When it's possible to do 26/13, why do 4/4?

  • @xX3lusiv3Xx

There's no such thing as 26/13.

  • @ChainsawVsGod 13/16

  • @Slash01

    What about it?

  • @peopleispoep jajajajajaja

  • @peopleispoep 4/4 killed his parents when he was a child while leaving a Rush concert. A young Ron Jarzombek then grew up to become Prog Man! Fighter of all simple time signatures wherever they rear their ugly heads!

  • this is why i have hope in humanity

  • Duuuuude, you forgot night terror! the intro is siiiick!

  • Uploader comment overload!

  • even though ive been listening to technical death metal for quite a whilenow and i consider myself one serious mofo metalhead ive got to admitt that my ears were unable to follow the guitar at 3:00

  • The very notion that any guitarist can compare with Jarzombek is folly at best.

The laws of music do not apply to Ron Jarzombek, the laws of Ron Jarzombek apply to music.

    Petrucci is chained by convention.

  • @Hepatomancy Bow to Jarzombek!Everyone out there!))))

  • @Hepatomancy petrucci can play as good as Ron.. but I don't think petrucci would play like this. Petrucci and Ron are the best on Earth.

  • @Hepatomancy

"Guthrie Govan - Fretless Guitar Jam with Michael Casswell [Licklibrary]"

  • @Hepatomancy Secret fact: Ron Jarzombek is not a guitarist, he is a guitar. The guy holding the guitar is just a robot programmed to look like it's playing him.

  • @Megamaniac610 Hilarious. Jarzombek needs more of your riffs for a list. Chuck Norris is a pussy.

  • @theorytheorist I agree. Fuck Chuck Norris. Right when I typed that Chuck Norris appeared. He then got on his knees and begged me to take it back while apologizing profusely. I told him to get the fuck out because he's a pussy. He did. But not before folding my laundry.

  • Ron is my favorite player, hands down. I never cease to draw inspiration from him.

  • yep,he teaches private lessons in San Antonio...and Im still waiting for Ron to give me the New Watchtower album.......RON!!

  • The Jarzombek brothers are a force to be reckoned with... and above really modest, sweet souls...Im still trying to figure out what planet they are from and how they landed in San Antonio,Tx being a close friend of Ron......

  • oh shit, wiki says he teaches guitar here in San Antonio. Fuck, I need this guy's tips!

  • Fuuuuck man...been listening to this guy shred since Watchtower's 'Control and Resistance' came out...that's a long time to have one's jaw dragging on the floor in disbelief. What a freaking maniac \,,/

  • The strats in those pics look awesome. Did he paint those himself?

  • @dogittydog1 Actually, he built them himself, not just paint them.

  • @dogittydog1 Yeah

  • @dogittydog1 Yeah, he builds his own guitars. He's not a big fan of customizing store-bought guitars.

  • Well...that was fun.

  • THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME

  • you know, i was playing some Blotted Science the other day, and my good ol' dad, who is a professional classical musician that has never been impressed by any fancy-ass fast guitar player in his life, said to me "That can't be a guitar, can it? It's too fast."

  • He's half guitar half man

  • Surely he's not human hahahaha he is a beast in the guitar.

  • I love Ron's palying. There is no way to describe the music he plays. So good so orgianl and also so amazing at the same time. I have also heard the Machinations of Dementia album and all I can say is OMG it gave me goose bumps from being so amazing and brilliant. 100 out of 100.

  • holy fuck what the fuck am i watching

    *head asplodes*

  • Jazz fucking sucks dick

  • I wish you had played the second solo from Activation Synth. Theory instead of the first one. The lick at the end of that is the craziest part of the album I thought. Track five on the album, right at 7:05

  • A collab. between Ron and Guthrie Govan would be a mouthwatering prospect...

  • @Grindgodgrind Heck yes it would!

  • @ChaosTitties - You just know that peoples heads would explode for miles around, no?

  • horrible guitar =/

  • of course he isnt human, he is gods god!

  • J.S Bach invented everything. There might be a scale that Ron uses which Bach didn't. As for chords go, anyone who has actually analysed those organ pieces will know that there is not a chord you could come up with which Bach didn't play somewhere. Try a dimmished with a b9 or Major 3rd in the bass. That's the first big chord in Toccata & fugue in Dminor. Nobody's ever had the guts to do that. He taught us one thing. The only rule in music is, that there are no rules. Thank god for Bach!!

  • is that Jordan Rudess in the picture at 6:00?

  • @melodic777 Marty Friedman. I'm assuming you're referring to the curly-haired dude on the right; I have no idea about the other one.

  • @thinkpad20 Haha, Friedman looks a bit like Rudess there!

  • @melodic777 The guy in the background ? no, I don't think it's Jordan, but it's true that he looks like him

  • @melodic777 no, I'm afraid that's not Jordan.

  • @melodic777 no...

  • Thinkpad, I'm glad someone like you is out there.

  • Awesome, I ordered the CD (along with some other CDs of his).

  • All i hear is Bach and classical fundamentals. The real shit is more musical.

  • @metilhed001 maybe you were replying to another user's comment? I don't know how you could "hear" Bach in this. And looking closer, with even basic musical theory knowledge one should be able to tell that Jarzombek's harmonic systems are completely different from Bach or "classical fundamentals." Devoid of even such basics as key signatures, let alone more complicated rules of voice leading, counterpoint, cadences, let alone more advanced rules of structure and thematic development, etc...

  • @thinkpad20 Ya your right about that, voice leading and everything. wouldnt make sense in this situation anyways. Its the movement of the lines. And lets face it, rules of structure only apply to beginners, all the advanced composers could make any chord work in any situation.

  • @thinkpad20 What key do you think any piece of Bach is in? Take an organ piece and name the chords. He is constantly modulating. Especially stuff in the Minor. All his minor pieces end in the major. His Majors go through several harmonic minor keys. Ron"s don't. Have another look and try to write out the chords and key changes. He took it to the limit. You cannot go further than Bach went. Also, Ron uses similar stuff all of the time, Bachs music has much more harmonic variation and I love Ron.

  • @skinkusmetalicus I LOVE Bach. You can confirm this on my lastfm page :) Believe me. But writing a piece in a key doesn't mean that you don't modulate or that you only use one chord. All 48 pieces in the Well-Tempered Clavier, all of the Cello suites, all of the violin pieces etc... pretty much ALL of Bach's music, is written in keys (and labeled as such), while also incorporating many modulations, tonicizations, etc. The distinction lies in how they begin and end, to put it very simply. (cont)

  • @skinkusmetalicus (cont) And you're quite right that Ron's music doesn't incorporate keys (for the most part). He generally uses a variety of harmonic systems that are quite independent from baroque-era theory and consequently produce very different-sounding results.

    (cont)

  • @thinkpad20 The Petrushka is two major triads played at once separated by a tritone. I use it lots for any altered dominant as I think that the b9 sounds better with the #11 and the #9 is better with the b13 or #5. I don't play the 5th. So if we take the notes C E G and then add the tritone triad F# A#(Bb) G# we can view it as CEGBbC#F# and it is just a dom7b9#11. I cannot believe that Bach hasn't played that. Im hitting the organ pieces. Thanks for inspiring me!

  • @thinkpad20 Ron's music does incorporate keys, at least a lot of it. Though not so much keys as specific scales.

  • @skinkusmetalicus Also I'm afraid you're not quite correct about Bach inventing everything (certainly not), nor about using all possible chords... Off the top of my head there's the famous Petrushka chord - just one example of many. Even before the highly atonal and dissonant chords that would distinguish much of early 20th century music. Not to mention polyrhythms, minimalism, etudes and other novel forms of composition, etc, etc... and keep in mind Bach is my favorite composer bar none.

  • @thinkpad20 Forgive the interruption, I understand the influence of Bach from a historical perspecive, but as a musician, I find his songs to be extremely dull to play. I've played dozens of his pieces, and in terms of actual energy, it was lacking. Granted, I enjoy contemporary compositions and odd meter.

  • @thinkpad20 Reading those three comments brought a smile to my face, you are definitely and intellectuall and one who understands that all music is still infact music.

  • what kind of guitar does he use?

  • @briansrl12 Ron builds his own guitars which have 27 or 28 frets. He used to build Strat type models and has recently adopted something that looks more like a BC Rich off-shoot when he built his first 7-string. Check his website and MySpace for pix of his axes. Some really crazy designs and color schemes.

  • i would say hes the father of the technichal prog metal ( with watchtower which released the standard album for technichal prog thrash. with Spastic ink with unbelievably tight solos and Blotted Scince The Machines Of Dementia a masterpiece in prog metal. its right to say hes not a human

  • where can i get blotted science backing tracks¿?

  • @DegraDeadlock

Ron has a whole theory for every second he plays... just stop comparing... and guessing what could rob do, because he can jam with his brother for a really long time, like you can play the blues.... understand?

  • you best be trollin nigger.

  • @thedudeyeah

    what a ridiculous comment

  • @thedudeyeah I hope you're joking.

  • @YogSothothOfGuitars THe elder gods frown upon you.

  • 1:08, scary picture...

  • I'm a fan of Macalpine and the early shredder's produced by Shrapnel record's but I'd be the first to say this is beyond Macalpine and macalpine for the most part was a Vinnie Moore/Satch clone ;his music was never that innovative to me and I still own 3 of his album's and do still enjoy a few of his song's.Some other's better than Mac....Shawn Lane,Matias Ecklundh,Uli Roth,Steve Morse,Steve Vai.I think Mac is a better pianist/keyboard player than guitar player imo.

  • @DegraDeadlock Blah blah blah, Tony was the first to hit 16 nps - who cares? Doesn't change the fact that you're too dumb to figure out what Technical Metal is which happens to be a subgenre Ron Jarzombek pioneered and is acknowledged for. This conversation is now over since you are clearly a mental midget. Have fun admiring Tony's old cherry curl and pretend he is technical metal, doofus!

  • @Sabu Ignore Degra, he's some kid who thinks he knows shit about guitar/music and fancies himself some argumentative god, yet is neither. I have an ongoing "lesson" with him since I'm a helpful guy, thought he was just misguided but he seems to genuinely believe that "7 string sweeping with tapping" determines a great player...

Seriously, this kid literally bases his arguments off of lying and misconception and then accuses you of it. It's fucking hilarious.

  • @Steve128967

Plus jarsombek even in his webpage shares all of his patterns not in tabs but full theory ( really well built), all the structure of his ideas... And can play along with his brother for 8 minutes pill on time like they played a 12 bar blues... I am not a huge fan of Rob and bob but I admire their greatness everytime I watch them... and this is what young degra should understand. though I don not even know you the heck t mac is....

  • @DegraDeadlock Wow, you're a complete fukken idiot! Tony MacAlpine would cry like a little girl if he had to try and pull off half the shit Jarzombek plays on the Blotted Science album - lead AND rhythm-wise. You don't know jack about advanced guitar or you wouldn't dare to write such garbage in a public forum. T-Mac is a better keyboard player than Ron and that's the extent of his superiority.

  • Check 1:11 moment in Blotted Science's Amnesia (vid 7W5V2fSUMxc) before making comments on who's more technical than Ron. This guy can pull shit off only a few can. And if you list those few, we are not in argument are we.

  • @DegraDeadlock Ron is a million times rhythmically more involved then any of the ones you listed.

  • I dunno...to me he seems like one of the few guitarists at his skill level who doesn't try to draw attention to himself in a tasteless way, his solos seem natural and unforced. Plus his recent music is fucking BRUTAL. It's a personal opinion, but I really can't stand listening to 80's metal/rock, or jazz in general. Doesn't interest me.

  • Dude, WTF does MacAlpine or Impellitteri pulling off faster arpeggios than Jarzombek have to do with technical metal?! LOL WTF is 'technical' about widdling over simple 3 or 5-chord progressions? Answer: NOTHING! Do you even know WTF technical metal is and who orginated it? Do a little research before you show your ignorance on the internet!

  • So you just said he's the fastest, and then said there are people who are faster, but are sloppy? Most of the people faster than him (not counting the sloppy tremolo picking) just sweep easy shapes (point being MAB) very, very fast.

Also, Ron is way better compared to Tony or Chris. But that's a whole kettle of fish I don't care to discuss at this hour.

  • why are you comparing buckethead to ron jarzombek ? seriously....

if you actually think buckethead even compares to jarzombek's perfet phrasing and note choice; not to mention his incredible theory he uses, then you are dead wrong. buckethead is good but he's nowhere near ron's level. and the fastest guitarist was Shawn Lane.

  • Shawn's not the fastest, but he is the best.

  • idk...i mean he could pick fast without even trying, i don't think he ever reached his potential. He could've been the fastest.

  • Believe me when he is definitely one of the fastest, around 19 - 20 nps (equates to 16th note triplets at 190 - 200 bpm) on some extremely difficult licks. That's just the tip of the iceberg as far as his actual skill is, really.

But MAB can sweep 28 nps (16th note triplets at 280) and Francesco Fareri is even faster if you can believe it...

  • I know he's not recorded to be the fastest, I meant if he were still around, and getting better, he could be the fastest.

  • fastest NEVER means the best

  • @HuberttXXX17 100m dash

  • @HuberttXXX17 of cource not....but RON JARZOMBEK IS THE BEST!!!!haha:)

  • @Keftestakarbouna that's true :D

  • @HuberttXXX17 youre right, it doesnt always mean that. being able to play fast and slow and melodically and soulfully, and etc. might mean best. but there are only a few guitarist i could think off where i could say theyre that good. allan holdsworth, al di meola, jarzombek perhaps, vai, bonamossa, and some others. its all IMHO anyway. to each their own.

  • @Havohej26 Jarzombek is melodically fast unlike guys like rusty coolidge who go outta their way to sound amelodic(personally I can't stand his playing) but he's fast as hell too.

  • @HuberttXXX17 No. But it helps!

  • @Steve128967 People like MAB are stunt guitar players with a high freak factor but very little substance beyond pure technique. Shawn Lane and Ron Jarzombek were/are true artists who figured out how to channel their skills in a much more artistic way.

  • Now that's not entirely true- MAB can phrase and play tastefully when necessary, like on 2X Again, Peace or Rain Forest. There are few (fortunately!) guitarists who really fit that bill, examples being people like Alexi Laiho or David Shankle.

  • buckethead kinda completely bores me to tears.

  • then you should listen to his music. look up the songs Padmasana and Machete, and listen to them both even if they're long. I have never heard such emotional phrasings in my life.

  • ron jarzombek is cool but i hate how he always bashes death metal

  • @Aserikoth He doesn't bash death metal, doofus - he has praised the musicianship in DM time and again. He's simply honest about not liking cookie monster vocals. And who can blame him?

  • It's not a contest or anything... plus Petrucci and Jarzombek are very dissimilar stylistically, so I don't get where the comparisons are coming from (I guess because they're both "fast guitarists?").

I guess he's closer to Buckethead but Buckethead tends to be more "flurry of atonal notes" while Jarzombek is always very controlled in his note choice, but just rarely uses traditional scales. As far as who is fastest, I don't know and I don't really care. I prefer Jarzombek to both of them...

  • More creative licks (and more technical) than Petrucci, yeah. Faster, no. But speed rarely counts for anything.

Buckethead has some incredibly beautiful music, though.

  • @thinkpad20 Well, Buckethead is controlled in his note choice (I've seen him do the same note-for-note solo sped up and slowed down), but he just tends to be ludicrously atonal with it.

  • Faster/more technical/does more ridiculous things than both Petrucci and Buckethead...

    More interesting music too.

  • Wow! This guy is REALLY fast!

    almost as fast as Buckethead

  • this guy is insane but Petrucci is better overall.

  • Spread the word! I only discovered Ron by a comment on A Change of Seasons by Dream Theater. EVERYONE BUY BLOTTED SCIENCE THE MACHINATIONS OF DEMENTIA RON COMMANDS YOU

  • ¡the ruddes of guitar!, lol

  • damm!! i didnt knew this guy till today, and i gotta say im in shock, he play so fuckin nuts, but my fav guitarrist always gonna be michael romeo

  • did he and his brother go to st gerard's high school?

  • they went to east central high school.

  • If I was God, I would've instantly killed him to make him play..... live. World simply can't handle this much awesomeness

  • i wouldnt say he's the best but he is good

  • @mrtle5

I would agree hes not the best because no guitarist will ever really be the best, but I cant think of any guitarists that are better then him atm... who were you thinking of?

  • Alot of Ron's stuff uses the Hirojoshi scale, which I also use a good bit. It can be used with Harmonic Minor and Aeolian.

  • this guy is good at guitar. but that is not whats impressing me the most. yeah there is plenty of good guitarist on the planet... what's so intersting about this guy is what he comes up with.. ITS HIS FUCKIN BRAIN !!! i want it. like i want jordan rudess' brain. mouhahahha (btw, 4:42 loll the guy in the red shirt kinda looks like him loll)

  • it is Jordan Rudess

  • @Talaramama the guy in the red shirt is marty freidman
